25.01.2022 I haven't had a job like this before. An antique walking stick with a new knob. They didn't join well and wasn't strong enough. so I added two collars made from sterling silver. Looks a little better and it's much stronger.

24.01.2022 My customer had an older ruby and diamond engagement ring plus an inexpensive opal ring. Both had sentimental value but neither was of the style she liked. We talked about it and decided on a style she liked, functional and in her budget. We reused the gold and the two diamonds. The result, below, shows what can be done with old jewellery that otherwise would just sit in the jewellery box.

21.01.2022 We are still in Covid restrictions so had time to browse my favorite site - Opal Auctions. Came across an unusual gem offered by "53Frogs". What kind of a business name is that? Turns out the owner is originally from Texas, so that could explain a lot. Thought I could see a design in it so splashed out the money. As usual the design I had in mind was not what my hands wanted to do. So after polishing the stone, it was 3.4cts. I used 18k yellow gold plus a 4pt and 2 X 1pt dia...monds. To be honest, it's not my favorite but it's growing on me. Now I just need someone else to see what I do. To see and have money.

20.01.2022 This is a suite of 9k yellow gold pieces. A ring, a pendant and two pairs of earrings. This rough texture is fun to make and looks great. It's made by bringing everything up to melting point. Too much heat and it all melts. Too low and it doesn't work. Heat CONTROL is critical. Burnt fingers are a common problem. Small price to pay for the results.

19.01.2022 Got the chance to make a birthday present for a customer. Wanted a piece of amber in silver. Just a simple design showing the amber in all its glory. Have a close look. See the little prehistoric insect on one end. That little bugger is thousand and thousands of years old. A real picture back in time.

19.01.2022 A little while ago, a customer came in to add to her ring collection. Asked if I'd design and craft a diamond ring for her. Design work is not my strength so was reluctant to commit myself. Greed got the better of me so thought I'd give it a whirl. Now she is a florist so I thought I'd make her a bouquet of diamonds. I was actually quite pleased with what I made for her. So was she.

15.01.2022 Did a little job for a lad last week. He found a quartz crystal termination that he wanted to set for his girlfriend. I cleaned up the base and made the silver surround. It may not be the most stunning piece ever made but it means the world to those two. The jewellery is just the visual piece of this story.

12.01.2022 Ok, now I'm just gonna show off. I made my loop about 9 years ago. 18k yellow gold and a bunch of diamonds. The lense is a 10 X triplet. A lady came in and saw it. She says I should post it up on here. So I will. I made the lanyard too. It's a 4-strand, round braid. Same as the old timers used to make whips. This is my first attempt at posting a video. Hope you like it.

11.01.2022 A father came into the shop the other day. He wanted something for his daughters and his partner. I had just received a parcel of opals from "Opalsbysteed" that looked fantastic. We selected a couple and I made the pendants. We engraved 'Family' on the back. I sawed the name Poppy out of some silver plate, added a little ruby and the chain - done! I love family projects!

10.01.2022 Big birthday coming up so hubby stops by to see what I had in stock. Decided to go "Australian". The earrings are in the gum leaf & nut design. I really like making these floral pieces. They dangle and jangle to put on a real show. The pendant I cut and polished from a slab of 'sunstone'. Found in the Hart Ranges in WA. A really interesting and unique gem. It's a pleasant pendant that can be worn day or night.

09.01.2022 Just finished another opal piece. The rough for this opal was supplied by mikiopalsmagicstone at Opal Auctions and was mined at Lightening Ridge. This is the type of opal I enjoy. Something different and the colour I love! Deep electric green and blues emerging from black depths. Somewhat expensive but worth it. I started with 2.5cts and trimmed it down to 1.3cts. The length of the gem is 18mm. Crafted in 18k white gold recycled from two old wedding rings. Even the bead sepa...rators were hand crafted. The graduating, accent diamonds are bead set, cognac coloured and weigh a total of 0.15cts. Now I just need to find someone to sell it to.....

08.01.2022 Was browsing my favorite internet site looking at opals when I spotted this unfinished gem offered by "Seda Rough Opals". A decent size at 2.18ct, fantastic bright colours, even the shape was ok. The issue was a large dead patch right in the middle. As a feature stone, that patch was a killer. Even with that issue the stone was a bit pricy due to the colour but a design was already in my head. Couldn't dislodge it so bought the bloody thing. After getting the gem in my hand,... I knew my great idea was not so great after all. A change of plans and a few hours later I ended up with this pendant.

07.01.2022 This is another opal I cut and polished a few months back. My type of gem - dark and moody. Deep blues, vivid greens. Rich colours only seen in Black Opal from Australia. Why would you buy diamonds when you can wear a stormy rainbow on your finger? I wished I could take a photo that would do this gem justice. With this pendant I used rose gold, sterling silver and diamonds.... The style is maybe a throwback to times past but still pleasant today.

06.01.2022 Customer brought in a suite of boulder opals. Now I've got to make them up to her design. The earrings are in the 'thread' style with a ridged center section that the ear lobe sits in.

03.01.2022 More opals! This large gem is a 'white' opal probably from Cooper Pedy. Not my favorite but still quite pleasant. This is a man's ring crafted in 9k yellow gold. I cast this ring after first carving the model out of wax. It's a heavy ring, low profile and very comfortable. Suitable for the customer.

03.01.2022 OPALS!!! Have I mentioned how much I love opals? Saw this unusual one listed on Opal Auctions by "REDEYEOPALS". Couldn't help myself from buying it. I already had the design in mind so why not? This is another black opal mined at Lightening Ridge. 1.3ct that is predominantly neon blue with electric green as a secondary colour. I prefer these dark, moody gems. Sitting in a frame crafted from 18k yellow gold, I've added 5 graduating diamonds. I don't have a buyer yet so into my collection this beauty will have to go. Do I care? Not in the least.
