We can arrange free collection for unwanted items. All items will be used to give our guys hands on experience working with electronics without them risking damage to valuable or wanted items. This stress free experience is critical in building people's confidence wo...rking with fragile components. Feel free to share this post, and to get in touch via our facebook page. Thanks Folks.

20.01.2022 People with a disability encounter stereotypes on a regular basis, most of which are at best unhelpful. One stereotype that people with Austism often encounter is the idea that everyone with Autism is in some way a genius with mathematics or computer coding, or has an amazing memory. Although there is no malice in this stereotype, it does not reflect the diversity of experience for people with Autism, and can lead to some people feeling further frustrated at the level of misu...nderstanding they encounter. Now obviously the below article about IBM's international projects aimed at hiring people with Autism in their IT Services does nothing to overcome this stereotype. However, the rate of unemployment in Australia among people with Autism is extraordinarily high, and any programs implemented that aim to do something to address this is going to get the thumbs up from us. Kudos to IBM who are among a growing number of organisations looking to the strengths of people with a disability. https://www.abc.net.au//ibm-to-hire-australian-e/10962852

16.01.2022 Help Connah Reach San Francisco! Connah is a lovely young man who loves to hug and has an infectious smile. He also has an extremely rare genetic condition about which very little is known, mutation on gene PPP2R5D, and as a result Connah is completely non verbal and still in nappies. The good news is research into this rare condition is happening in San Fransisco, hopefully leading to a whole new understanding and brighter future for people in Connah's situation. Unfortunately Connah doesn't live anywhere near SanFrancisco, but we can help. Please take the time to check out the gofundme page below, and if you can't donate maybe you can share this page or post to your own facebook.

15.01.2022 A sneak peek of what Tuesday’s at The Space looks like! A little 3D printing, a little Robotics and of course games!

14.01.2022 This is an action shot of Alex completing another unit towards his Certificate II in Information, Digital Media and Technology! It's not an exciting looking action photo, but trust me, it's all happening here at The Space Newcastle. Studying at The Space means Alex gets lots of 1 on 1 time when he needs it, and works at a pace that works for him. If you know anyone else who might benefit from an alternative to the conventional classroom you can find out more at our website: http://www.thespacenewcastle.com/

14.01.2022 "Stage not age" one of the core principles behind this new approach to the education environment. Our own experience when dealing with people with a disability who are leaving the conventional education environment is that they feel when they fall behind they get left behind. We will be watching this project with great interest and hope that it succeeds.

10.01.2022 The Space Newcastle is finally on Facebook! So I guess the first thing we should do is explain what we are trying to achieve here. Very briefly, The Space Newcastle was conceived as a place for young people and people with a disability to go, hang out with people like them, and get guidance, support and help from skilled IT professionals in a supported environment. To see what we do check out our Program Timetable at: http://www.thespacenewcastle.com/programs/

05.01.2022 Nash here is one very happy guy now that his laptop screen has been replaced. Unfortunately Nash smashed the screen on his laptop and was given an expensive quote to replace it. Fortunately Nash knew where to go, and we were able to replace the screen for him, and even show him how it's done. Bringing your IT needs to The Space Newcastle means you get an unbeatable price and means the people we support here get invaluable experience and learning opportunities. Email [email protected] or call on 0423847780 if you've got any IT needs of your own.

04.01.2022 Friday’s at The Space are honing in on our creative skills! Check out the current Creative Arts project! We’re creating our own stencils to update our otherwise boring office desks! Can’t wait to see the completed projects!

01.01.2022 You might remember us sharing some details about Connah earlier in the year, the young man rcently diagnosed with Jordan's Syndrome. Well on July 28th there will be an awesome family fun day at Maitland Park Bowling Club to help raise funds for Jordan's Guardian Angels (https://jordansguardianangels.org/) and raise awareness of this condition. There is also a raffle running in conjunction with this event with some awesome donated prizes! Tickets in the raffle can be bought in person at The Space Newcastle, or requested directly via the event page.
