25.01.2022 GEOFF ACHISON - PLAYING THE STUDIO@54 March 15th! FYI - Aussie blues/roots artist Geoff Achison has thrilled audiences around the world with his dynamic blues playing and gutsy solo arrangements. Geoff first arrived on the scene in the late 1980s playing lead guitar with enigmatic Australian blues performer Dutch Tilders. After several years with Dutch, Geoff took his music overseas competing at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, USA where he won the 'Albert Kin...g Award' and was offered an endorsement deal with Gibson Guitars. He temporarily relocated to London UK in the late90s and successfully established himself on the British touring circuit. He also returned to the US to take advantage of industry opportunities there. He moved to Atlanta Georgia and toured relentlessly over a period of years before settling back in Australia. He continues to record & tour internationally. A highly regarded guitarist, singer and songwriter, Geoff is equally adept at acoustic and electric styles. He can provide the full electrifying experience with his outstanding blues/rock combo The Souldiggers, or play a complete solo show with his superb command of the acoustic guitar. Whilst regarded as a Guitarists Guitarist, Geoff is also an all-round performer who delights in entertaining the audience with his wry sense of humor. His music is firmly steeped in the blues, but he injects funk, soul, jazz and even classical styles into the mix. *** Since his arrival with Dutch Tilders, Geoff has been a driving force on the Aussie Blues/Roots scene, inspiring and influencing many of his younger compatriots. He enjoys the teaching aspect of his craft, presenting a number of workshops each year and appearing as a regular guest instructor at Jorma Kaukonens famous Fur Peace Ranch guitar camp in Ohio. The Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society named Geoff Achison their official Patron in 2011. *** In 2014 Geoff celebrated 20 years with The Souldiggers with a retrospective in-concert performance, all captured on CD/DVD. In 2017 Geoff Achison released Another Mile Another Minute, his first all-original studio album in 8 years. This release also featured The Souldiggers and an impressive list of guest artists. Piece number 3 in our 'Lockdown' is a special piece of art and is one of the most popular pieces of art from our Indigenous collection. This maybe due to the beautiful purple tones or the movement and flow in the artwork, or maybe the intricacy and feel that the painting evokes. Painted by Brenita Pumani from the Mimili Maku Arts community (I confess, this art centre produces some of my personal favourite artworks, apart from Keringke, of course!) this painting is titled 'Piritipalawa' - Pretty Flower. Brenita has painted the flowers of the APY lands (in South Australia), and says, "When I was a young girl my mother use to take me out bush gathering food and I would always stop and look at the pretty flowers. 04.01.2022 Instruments are resting after a wild workout with Wayne Jury and Justin Brady. It was a fantastic gig! The music and lyrics led us on an undulating ride amongst tunes of footstomping, hand clapping joy, to poignant reflective tunes and those that had our eyes welling with tears. The emotional rollercoaster of life. The energy was full of friendly, happy, grateful people. Thanks everyone for a great afternoon!
