23.01.2022 BEE SERIOUS! Bee stings are a common occurrence. They can cause pain, swelling, and, in some cases, allergic reactions. The symptoms usually resolve on their own or with home treatment. However, serious reactions require medical attention. Sometimes, swelling lasts more than 24 hours. Although it can be uncomfortable, it is normal for swelling to last for up to 7 days. Most people have a bee sting at some point in their lives. In most cases, they experience swelling and pain ...that go away on their own. Other individuals may experience allergic reactions, also known as anaphylaxis, to bee stings. They should seek medical attention right away. When a bee stings a person, their sharp stinger enters the skin. It then detaches from the bee and latches to the skin with its barb, which is a sharp hook that keeps the stinger in place. In most cases, the venom sac attaches to the top of the stinger. The venom affects the body and immune system, and individuals will react to it differently. Research from the National Institutes of Health suggests that over time, people may become more sensitive to the venom. This increased sensitivity can in turn cause an allergic reaction, even if a person has never had one before. If this happens, more serious symptoms will occur, and a person should seek medical attention as soon as possible. Source: Medical News Today 10 June 2021

16.01.2022 FREE waiting room chairs! Once our new chairs arrive, we will be giving away our old waiting and consult room chairs. Unfortunately, many of the charity stores are not currently receiving donations of office furniture so we thought we'd offer them to our patients.... They have a timber frame, with or without armrests, with upholstered seat and back. If you want any, please comment below or contact Kylie Yates at the surgery. First in, first served. About 30 are currently available.

10.01.2022 WHAT IS AN ASTHMA ATTACK? Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition that causes inflammation and narrowing of the airways. A person may experience asthma exacerbations if their condition worsens or new asthmatic symptoms occur. These exaberations are known as 'asthma attacks' and sometimes happen without warning.... Symptoms include coughing, wheezing, tightness in the chest and shortness of breath. Some people may also experience rapid breathing and gasping for air during sleep. Doctors will usually work with a person to create an ASTHMA ACTION PLAN to help manage their condition. This plan will all all the medications someone is taking and detail when and how to take them. It will also include signs of an oncoming asthma attack and explain what action to take and when to seek medical care. You can discuss the need for an ASTHMA ACTION PLAN with your GP. 08.01.2022 SKINTASTIC LEARNING Being a doctor or nurse means always learning. Besides being very busy with patients, our GPs and practice nurses take part in regular clinical meetings at the practice. Today, Dr CK did a presentation on skin lesions.

04.01.2022 DR HEIDI IS LEAVING US.. FOR NOW. Unfortunately, Dr Heidi He has decided to cut her regular sessions at The Surgery at Jerra due to family reasons. She will, however, do relief shifts for us when she can.... Dr Heidi has been with the practice for five years and will be missed by the TSAJ family and all her patients. We hope Dr Heidi will come back to work with us in the future.

01.01.2022 FEE INCREASE As of 30 November 2020, consultation fees at The Surgery at Jerra will increase slightly following the recent release of the Australian Medical Association’s fees list. Our consultation fees take into account the increasing cost of running a medical practice, including rising medical insurance and other indemnities; the cost of medical equipment, staff and operating expenses.... We believe TSAJ’s new fees are still comparatively priced with many general practices in the ACT/Queanbeyan region. Should you have any queries, feel free to contact our practice manager, Jason Lee. Standard consultation - $84 Longer consultation - $130 Saturday consultation - from $99 Concession card discounts are available Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm. All fees are payable at the time of consultation. NOTE: A cancellation fee of $50 may apply for any appointments cancelled or moved within two hours of the original booked time.
