22.01.2022 Be careful not to trivialise failure. Failure isnt just when things dont work. Failure hurts. If it doesnt hurt, its not failure. Overcoming that emotional pain is what builds grit. That pain is what kids need to understand. It is one of the emotions we need to acknowledge as normal even though it is uncomfortable.

13.01.2022 fightflightfreeze#mentalhealth#mentalhealthawareness#anxiety#awareness#selfcare#selfcompassion#selfcompassionjourney#selflove. Fight and flight are primitive reactions built-in in our brain to protect us from danger. At times a third reaction, freeze, may also manifest blocking our ability to respond and act accordingly! Fight may lead to anger, irritability and aggressive urges towards others. Flight may be a desire to run away from a physical location, relationships or job...s. Freeze manifests as dissociation, zoning out, feeling stuck or paralysed! All three REACTIONS deserve a response try to incorporate activities that will activate your parasympathetic nervous system which support you to regulate your emotions and essential to step out of the survival mode. Activities that might help include: creating art, listening to soothing music, writing, dancing, connecting with loved ones, stretching, spending time in nature, drinking warm beverages and eating nourishing meals. 08.01.2022 #therapy#selfawareness#selfcare#selflove#selfknowledge#therapywithshazia#quirkykahaniyan#incontrol#outofcontrol#mentalhealth#mentalhealthawareness#I have always loved Venn diagrams. They help identify common factors between different situations! It is helpful to recognise what is in my control and what isn’t and knowing that I am doing everything I can and being at PEACE with that. Most importantly, it is the ability to identify my strengths and limitations and reserving my energies for what is within my control in the present moment. Another beautiful illustration @quirky_kahaniyan

07.01.2022 Relational aggression is a nonphysical, covert form of bullying used to damage the reputation of another child or harm and manipulate that childs relationships with others. It includes a pattern of behavior (not just a single incident) and a power imbalance between the perpetrator and the victim.

01.01.2022 Close to thirty years ago I grabbed forty cents and walked down to a public phone box in Kenmore and I made a phone call. I was still a teenager and I was feel...ing stressed about something to do with a boy I knew. You know who I called? Not my mum or dad. Not grandparents or an aunty. Not the school counsellor or my GP. I rang Kids Helpline. Yep. I rang Kids Helpline and a very nice counsellor patiently talked me through some options to help me realise everything was okay. I hung up that phone feeling like I had a plan. Hands up if your child was given social media or a smartphone this year? Heres what I really want you to do. I want you to make sure that the number for Kids Helpline Official is on your childs phone: 1800 55 1800. And if your tween or teen has social media -- stand beside them and get them to follow or like the Kids Helpline Instagram or FB account. (While youre there also get them to follow @CelesteBarber for a dose of celebrity reality!) Start thinking of Kids Helpline like a godmother to your child. Theyre there (highly trained counselors) -- ready to talk through ANY issue big or small with your child. From homework worries and friendship dramas to sick parents, feelings of depression, sex, porn, divorce and more. Dont leave it to your child to somehow remember to call Kids Helpline when theyre struggling with something. Dont leave it for your child to get all kinds of horrific advice from Google. Put Kids Helpline on their phone. Put the number on your fridge. Get them to bookmark the website on their laptop or iPad.Make sure theyre following them on social media. As someone very wise said to me -- Kids Helpline is your back-up dancer. Theyre the godmother every child needs when we the parents have run out of ideas or are clueless to what our kids are up to. Our kids needs to be surrounded by wise voices. You wont always be around when theyre struggling. Or maybe youre there but your child is struggling in silence. KIDS HELPLINE has taken more than 8 million calls over the past 29 years from kids and teens and young adults aged 5-25 years old. I was one of them all those decades ago. PLEASE SHARE THIS POST! https://kidshelpline.com.au/
