20.01.2022 We are thrilled to share the generous words from Dr David Sykes, Director, Centre for Dementia Learning, Dementia Australia, who visited us for a site tour on Monday. Dr Sykes wrote: "Thank you and the other Scalabrini staff for your time on Monday showing me your truly amazing village. In fact not quite sure how best to describe it because if I say residential aged care facility it is not that and certainly not what most people would think of when you say that. It also does... not capture the integrated apartment style of living and village elements, as well as unique education spaces. What you have achieved with the design of the whole village is truly inspiring from the clever use of technology with aspects like the high tech pressure sensitive mats to the clear separation between home and workplace elements of the centre. This helps to create a unique space where staff can support people living with dementia and their families and carers to lead rewarding lives filled with purpose and meaning through a clear focus on well-being first and foremost with the clinical aspects of care being more an important but unobtrusive element of the approach. After all who wants to live in a hospital! I commend the board and staff for developing the vision and delivering it in such a unique and culturally sensitive way.
