19.01.2022 A big shout out the the Geelong Seventh Day Adventist Church who has provided us with pre-packed groceries for 20 households! The number of households on our food support list has doubled in recent weeks. People seeking asylum have no access to any form of government income support if they are stood down from work, or have their hours reduced, due to the impact the pandemic. This wonderful donation will enable us to ensure that they have access to food and toiletries, and will provide dignity and care.

19.01.2022 Thank you to Conni for donating these reusable face-masks for Welcome Place members, and to Aireys Inlet Rural Australians for Refugees for organising this. With many of our people being laid off from work, and having no access to any form of income support, they cannot afford to buy food, let alone masks. These arrived just in time to be distributed over the weekend. Such wonderful support.

18.01.2022 ‘They Cannot Take the Sky: Stories from Detention’ is a touring exhibition of personal stories from people who have sought asylum in Australia and have been detained by the Australian government under its mandatory detention policy. Entry is free. The exhibition is co-presented by Behind the Wire and Road to Refuge and was developed with a volunteer reference committee of individuals with lived experience seeking asylum, in collaboration with Victoria’s Immigration Museum. 16.01.2022 Very grateful to the Give Where You Live Foundation for partnering with us in our work. This $4000 Feed Geelong Grant will support people in Geelong who are seeking asylum, or who have temporary protection in Australia, to access culturally appropriate fresh food on a regular basis during periods of no income, limited income or financial difficulty.
