22.01.2022 This year the vines are very beautiful. Pure gold!

22.01.2022 Mid February and still no rain.. irrigating, irrigating, irrigating... No more sprays now, just waiting for the grapes to develop flavour and colour. Had a wee taste of some Shiraz fruit last weekend and was impressed with the flavours already!

16.01.2022 How many brides does it take to net a vineyard?

16.01.2022 Usually we do a few baume samples and track the development of the fruit over 3 or so weeks. Today we got a big surprise to find the grapes are approaching premium ripeness apace! We have now swung into planning mode - picking Shiraz next Monday!

15.01.2022 Last Monday was the perfect day to pick grapes. A cool morning, light breeze during the day, great bunch of pickers - thanks to all of you - and singing in the vineyard! So, that's the Shiraz done and dusted. Just the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot to go, sometime in the next fortnight! 14.01.2022 Baume testing has begun! First pick a sample of grapes from the vineyard. Extract the juice and let settle. Test for sugar levels with a refractometer. The sugar levels help us decide when the fruit is at it's prime. Here's a few pics taken at sunrise this morning as we did our sample pick.

09.01.2022 We do so love autumn! Firstly, it's a chance for a bit of a rest from the relentless summer heat and irrigating. Then there is the slow turning of the colours from green to gold. Vineyards do accentuate the change because of their sheer size. Our tiny little vineyard does it's bit blessing us with a golden horizon.

03.01.2022 Easter Sunday! Did it happen? Must have 'cause we have sore feet!! Once again Castlemaine Botanical Gardens were a wonderful venue for the Bendigo Winemakers Easter Festival. What is it about this event that is so special? Goodwill, autumn ambience, music, food, wine, families, common interest, optomism, friends - whatever - it works!! Thanks to everyone for a great day from beginning to end.
