25.01.2022 GOING, GOING SOON TO BE GONE FOREVER HISTORIC WINDSOR BRIDGE ON BEHALF OF THE GREENS POLITICAL PARTY: (CASSY O'CONNOR, LEIGH WILLIAMS & DAVID SHOEBRIDGE & CITIZEN Phoebe Lois Butterworth)... To the Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of New South Wales. We your petitioners pray, that the Honorable NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian stops the destruction of the Heritage Windsor Bridge. Built in 1874 it's historic value also includes technical, social and research significance. A State listed Heritage item. First use of pneumatic bridge caissons in Australia. First use of precast reinforced concrete beams in Australia in 1922 by 30 years. The first and last of its kind still functioning. Unusually strong superstructure designed to withstand extraordinary floodwaters. A simple design pared back to deliver a bridge that offered the least possible resistance to floodwater. HOW CAN IT REMAIN USEFUL? Historic Windsor Bridge can be used as safe, peaceful, picturesque pedestrian and bike pathway to access Macquarie Park, away from trucks, easily accessed from The Terrace. It could be used for markets, events, heritage displays from the Museum and art exhibitions Historic bridges are retained in other parts of Australia and overseas, being used in creative ways. Don't believe the claims 'the bridge is unsafe and needs to pulled down'. There would be WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS if this was true. Why do we need part of the historic bridge to be left as a viewing platform. Leave all the bridge as a useful asset The Petition ofThe Windsor Bridge, Preservation Society and citizens of New South Wales. Brings to the attention of the Hawkesbury City Council. The undersigned petitioners therefore ask the Legislative Assembly to TO ACT NOW: Vote on line to SHOW YOUR OPPOSITION TO DESTROYING OUR HERITAGE AND IN PARTICULAR REMOVAL OF THE HISTORIC WINDSOR BRIDGE. Signed Phoebe L. Butterworth Sydney, NSW, 2000
