25.01.2022 The children love taking care of our gardens. Earlier this week, one of our lovely families donated a mandarin tree for us to plant. Another family brought in their own compost from home. It was such a wonderful collaborative learning experience for the children as they actively participated in digging, mixing, planting and watering our new tree. #gardening #sustainablepractices #sustainability #compost #earlylearning #bioscience #outdooreducation #earlychildhoodeducation #kindergarten

22.01.2022 Our Young Ones commemorated our ANZACs by creating a wreath which was laid at the Elsie Laver Park memorial. Great to see other early learning centres in our community like Mudgeeraba Early Childhood Centre commemorating our ANZACs, ensuring our Australian heroes and history continue to be passed down to our younger generations. 22.01.2022 Oral storytelling is one of the foundations of children’s development of language and literacy. Delving into the children's current interest in the lifecycle of butterflies, teacher and centre owner Miss Heather shared an Aboriginal Dreamtime story called 'The Birth of the Butterflies' sourced from @kullillaart.com.au . In the Dreamtime, the caterpillars would spend winter hidden in cocoons preparing to change into their beautiful spring bodies. Ecological storytelling is a wonderful and engaging way to share cultural knowledge whilst acknowledging current interests of the children. #oralstorytelling #earlyliteracy #orallanguage #earlychildhoodeducation #embeddingindigenousperspectives #dreamtimestories #kindergarten #mudgeeraba
21.01.2022 Down by the creek, the children were faced with the challenge of walking/crawling over slippery rocks in order to reach the small waterfall. The children tested their capabilities; their balancing skills, hand-eye coordination and gross motor skills as they persevered through difficult areas. They were encouraged to take their time as they made their way from one part of the creek to the other. There were many proud smiles when they reached the other side - such a great achievement for those who found it more challenging than others and of course to our new Bush Kinders who had never done it before. We are so proud of you all! #BushKindy #ForestKindy #natureplay #natureeducation #riskyplay #kindergarten
21.01.2022 Mud play is much more than just FUN! The open-ended nature of mud play is perfect for the developing brain. There is no end to the creations, ideas and games children will invent. During this type of unstructured, outdoor play, children are not only exercising but are building their ability to form ideas, problem solve, and think critically, as well as be innovative and inventive. 16.01.2022 Every day is Outdoor Classroom Day at our Kindy. Centre owner and Educator Mr. Chris loves gardening with our Kindergarten green thumbs. Today he educated the children on the benefits of adding our compost - ‘power food’ for the soil - to our gardens before they actively participated in planting sunflower seeds together. #outdoorclassroomday #gardening #earlychildhoodeducation #natureeducation #mudgeeraba
16.01.2022 Making Recycled Paper Extending on our Kindergarten Marigolds’ enthusiasm and active involvement in reducing, reusing and recycling at Kindy, today the children had the opportunity to make recycled paper. First the children chose to either cut/rip/karate chop the scrap paper into tiny pieces which were then added to a big mixing bowl.... Then they took turns adding warm water to the paper; sharing their predictions and observations as they explored the changes using their senses. The children then mixed the paper ‘soup’ (with added Marigold seeds from the garden for fun) and excitedly watched as the mixture was then added to a blender. We are excited to see the end result this week, but of course the process is always the best part! #Kindergarten #recycling #earlylearning #Earlychildhoodeducation #sustainability #Mudgeeraba
15.01.2022 ~ Stacking blocks and mathematics ~ Block play offers ample opportunity for children to practice important maths concepts and skills including length, measurement, geometry, comparison, number, estimation, symmetry, balance. Not only is it FUN, but they also learn how to problem solve; persevere when faced with challenges, work collaboratively and build self confidence in their abilities when playing with their peers.... #Blockplay #kindergarten #earlynumeracy #earlyyears #earlychildhoodeducation #earlylearning

14.01.2022 ~ Playing with dolls ~ Children use play to understand their world. Playing with dolls gives children the opportunity to develop their cognitive, fine motor, and self-help skills, and social-emotional skills. Children often find it easier to practice these skills on someone/something else before they can apply them to themselves.... Doll play allows children to: practice nurturing, caring and inclusive practices and empathy towards others role play and re-enact events or prior experiences with their educators, family, and peers (cognitive reframing) prepare for a sibling (rehearsal) follow steps and build their fine motor skills when bathing, feeding and dressing/changing them (sequencing) build speech and language skills as they interact, question and expand their vocabulary as they engage in imaginative play. #holisticeducation #earlychildhoodeducation #childcare #play #earlylearning #playmatters #ecec
