24.01.2022 Does anyone have any fond memories of learning via the Suzuki Method? Dr Suzuki visited Australia in 1987 to encourage this talented group of youngsters.

24.01.2022 I often talk with parents of my SECM students about how, when properly followed, the Suzuki philosophy fits beautifully with the Montessori philosophy - heres a great opportunity to see how a Montessori classroom works...

24.01.2022 Getting some videos ready to share with my students on YouTube... Teaching violin via Zoom/FaceTime is challenging, but one thing that I find particularly hard is that we cant play our violins together (sound delays etc.). So Im hoping that this fills a bit of a void for my students. #violin #suzukiviolin #suzukimusic #onlinemusiclessons #musicislove #musicislife

23.01.2022 I am experiencing some technical difficulties with my website, so for any updates please check here or message me. Im hopeful that I can get it back up and running very soon.

22.01.2022 What happens when you start doing online lessons from home? You have to share your work space with some new colleagues... #violin #violinist #violinteacher #suzukimusic #suzukitalenteducation #suzukimusicaustralia #musicislife #musicislove #perhapsitismusicthatwillsavetheworld

21.01.2022 What a wonderful start to the term and the year! We are now two weeks in to the term, and we just had our first violin group class of the term. To those who attended group class - thank you for such a wonderful class - you all brought so much joy and energy today! We have some new faces in our studio - including some younger siblings - and we spent some time getting to know each other. 21.01.2022 Before my own children started their journey with learning the violin, I had a pretty good bag of practice/motivational tricks. I have learnt a lot more since the challenge of practicing with my own girls began! Here are some of the most important factors for me: Smile! I know this sounds a bit obvious, but it is often forgotten. As parents, we become anxious or agitated by our (sometimes) uncooperative child. 21.01.2022 Its been a while since I posted story/song, so here is Ten Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed (illustrations by Tina Freeman) - I hope your little monkeys enjoy it!

21.01.2022 As Term 4 nears its end, Ive finally been able to bring one of my favourite hobbies together with the work that I love so much - and the students loved them today! Do they need names? Hopefully Ill be adding a few more colours soon...... (Thank you @just add crochet for the gorgeous pattern!)

20.01.2022 Looking forward to Term 3!!!

19.01.2022 Growth Mindset self talk is very important on your familys musical journey - this pic might be useful to have in your practice space...

18.01.2022 This week #themusicalplayroom returned to face to face classes at #lanecovemusicandculturalcentre !!! There are no words to express the joy I felt this week, to see all of the happy little faces of my students! Many of my littlest students struggled with online classes, so it was great to be together again. I spent the school holidays rethinking how I would run my #suzukiearlychildhoodmusic classes. Each of these yellow bags contains a kit of instruments and other materials... for class, reducing the need for sharing instruments. Everything is cleaned between classes. Whilst we had to do without physical contact, the most important thing is that we could enjoy music together in our little community. #musicislife #musicislove #suzukimusic #suzuki #suzukitalenteducation #lifeinthetimeofcorona @ Lane Cove Music and Cultural Centre

09.01.2022 In these uncertain times, with so many of you in self-isolation with your children and unable to attend your music classes, I thought that it might be helpful to share some videos of stories that we read in class. I hope your little ones enjoy them! This video is of me reading What a Wonderful World by George David Weiss & Bob Thiele with illustrations by Ashley Bryan to my own children. #whatawonderfulworld #coronavirus #storytime #themusicalplayroom #earlychildhoodmusic

09.01.2022 The 2019 Sydney Suzuki Festival happened over the weekend, and the Professional Development sessions concluded yesterday. What a wonderful and enriching 5 days weve had!!! A time when music, joy, friendship and love come together and provide the most nurturing learning environment possible. I learned so much, both watching play-ins, tutorials, group classes and enrichment classes during the festival, and also during sessions on pedagogy, Tonalisation, repertoire, musical ...potential, and early childhood education. One of the sessions that stood out the most for me, as both an educator and a parent, was the session on the Watch Wait and Wonder approach. If youre not familiar with this approach, I can strongly recommend taking a look at the video below. It is a way of nurturing your connection with your child - all you need is 20-30 mins, a room, a box of toys, and your undivided attention. I will definitely be trying this with my own children! Wishing you all a happy Easter break!!!

09.01.2022 I really love this post from Yo-Yo Ma - one of my favourite musicians combined with one of my favourite childrens authors!

08.01.2022 Looking for a fun musical activity during the school holidays?

08.01.2022 The children in this lovely family have been having lessons with me for many years, and I wanted to share their fundraising effort for our frontline health workers. I know that a lot of people are feeling financially stretched at the moment, but if you can spare a little to help our health care workers, Im sure it will be much appreciated!

07.01.2022 The benefits of integrating music into larger areas of the curriculum has been recognised in Canada and Finland, so what's happening here in Australia?

07.01.2022 Another story for all the kids stuck in lockdown. This is a favourite in our house and in my Early Childhood Music Classes Down In The Jungle Elisa Squillace ... #TheMusicalPlayroom #storytime #earlychildhoodmusic #songsinthetimeofcorona #abitoffun

05.01.2022 I am now a registered Creative Kids provider - School age students can use vouchers for their lessons!

03.01.2022 As we near the end of the school holidays in NSW, I thought I'd share a quick post about helping kids to get practice done in the holidays. The school holidays ...are the perfect time to get more practice done (not less!) than is usually done during the school term. Step 1: Set some groundrules about practice. The rule in my house is: screen time and social time happen after practice is done. Step 2: Make a practice plan. Here's one that my 8 yr old daughter wrote. It's a good idea to get kids to write this themselves so that they are more invested in the activity. Step 3: Set a timer, for 25-30 mins. I use www.tomatotimer.com Step 4: Start practising and don't stop till the timer goes off! Remove distractions such as iPads and phones before starting. Step 5: when the timer has gone off, take a few minutes break, and repeat from Step 3 One of the best parts of this technique is the planning that is done before the practice starts. It removes potential for time wasting and procrastination during the practice session. Have you tried the Pomodoro technique of time management in music practice? Let me know your thoughts below!

02.01.2022 Term 2 started today for my SECM students (yesterday for violin students) in my newly minted home office. It was so lovely to see the smiling faces of students that I miss seeing every week! I am so grateful for all the beautiful hearts who are part of my studio, and I look forward to the day when I can give them all hugs again. #themusicalplayroom #suzukimusic #suzukimusiceducation #suzukiearlychildhood #suzukiearlychildhoodmusic #musicislife #musicislove #beautifultonebeautifulheart #perhapsitismusicthatwillsavetheworld
