25.01.2022 Lalgudi 90 Music Intensive Melbourne* The Academy of Indian Music Australia, Inc and Sruthi-Laya Kendra Aust Inc initiated the celebration of Lalgudi 90 with th...e immense support of all the art lovers of Melbourne in 2020. The Melbourne arts fraternity pays tribute to the Carnatic Trinity composers annually through presentations and panel discussions with the inclusion of invited artists from overseas and other parts of Australia. 2020 marks Melbourne’s 35th year of the Heritage Trinity Festival. The annual festival is accessible to wider audiences at mainstream venues, to name a few: The Victorian National Art Gallery, places of worship, Alexander Theatre and Robert Blackwood Hall. This year, it was befitting to link the Lalgudi Pancharatnam as a celebrated theme in honour of Padmabhushan Lalgudi Jayaraman and couple it with the Annual Heritage Trinity Festival. The five kritis have been beautifully polished arranged and also popularised by the legend Lalgudi Jayaraman. Due to the pandemic impacts, adaptive measures were taken to host the festival utilising an alternative process. The concept of online Music Intensive was devised in close consultation with the senior Gurus and Freelance young artists of Melbourne. Lalgudi Duo, Sri GJR Krishnan and Srimathi Vijayalakshmi, kindly consented to join the Academy’s faculty and provided the intensive sessions over 6 weekends. They enabled pre-reading material for each session. 60 participants enrolled and learned the precious kritis with sheer delight. Lalgudi siblings spent a considerable amount of time explaining how Lalgudi Jayaraman has enhanced the melody to encapsulate the spirit of the composer which brings to life the meaning of the lyrics. In keeping with the modern times of any professional course, Lalgudi siblings were receptive to feedback from each session. It has been a life-time treasure for the attendees to understand the Lalgudi pedagogy which included the paadantaram in detail, special notations and audio files for each piece. *Outcomes* Melbourne has been blessed to have received this intensive coaching directly from the disciple lineage of Tyagaraja. Capable participants of the Music Intensive will be invited to perform some of the kritis at the Australia South Asian Music and Dance Exchange Program in Melbourne, hosted by the Academy and Melbourne Academy of Performing Arts (MAPA) of Monash University in June 2021, says Ravi M Ravichandhira OAM and Narmatha Ravichandhira MA. This presentation will be co-ordinated by Smt Shobha Sekhar OAM *Reflections* The Music Intensive has also been an 'eye-opener' for the many to appreciate the nuances and application of swara modulations in a measured way, says AD of the Trinity Festival. *Lalgudi Krishnan & Vijayalakshmi* The Music Intensive sessions were very engaging and satisfying for us as the teachers. The organisers Sri Ravichandhira & Smt Narmatha, along with various Gurus from Melbourne, had planned the sessions carefully and meticulously. The participants showed good aptitude, passion and application to learn every nuance that was taught. It was particularly heartwarming that several Gurus came forward to learn, with great enthusiasm and keenness. At the end of the six weeks, we were convinced that the average proficiency in music in Australia has made great progress over the last decade thanks to the efforts of the Australian Carnatic Music gurus.

15.01.2022 What a beautiful choreography and dance arrangement to suit the magnificent composition, signing, orchestra and brilliant mixing of audio and vision.... So many lyrics highlighting how Mani sir brought Mridangam to centre stage; his attitudes towards awards'; his new works with global musicians; his dedication to Guru Surajananda have been depicted by no better person than Vyshnavie who has been nurtured from childhood by Mani sir
