23.01.2022 #phdlife. ‘More research is needed’.
22.01.2022 Content note: article contains body shaming, illicit drug use, and self harm references.
22.01.2022 I can't recommend this program highly enough. I completed the original Diploma in 2013 and upgraded to my Advanced Diploma in 2018. If, like me, you have a bu...sy life and perhaps are also studying something else, this program will actually enhance, rather than detract from your other work. As a grad student doing my PhD part time, I use the learning from neuroscience every day, in every way. See more
20.01.2022 As someone who suffers from (very) occasional social anxiety that morphs into the odd panic attack, this was helpful.
19.01.2022 I received official word today that my ethics application for my PhD project has been approved by the Human Research Ethics Committee. Yay. That means, I can begin my actual fieldwork. Shortly, I'll be communicating on here a little more about the research project itself and begin the recruitment process. But for now, a small Friday happy dance.
19.01.2022 Shout out to my LBGTi friends working in the rural sector. Here is a US study on the minority stress felt by us working in that sector. Cheers and stay safe everyone.

18.01.2022 An oldie but a goodie.
17.01.2022 I just hit 'send' on the (very) rough draft of my results chapter. Arguably the most important chapter of a PhD and one where my poetic licence to write is more prevalent. A PhD is an interesting journey of intense work, thinking, reading, writing and creating, to periods where not much happens whilst you are in between meetings, or sections. The part right now is very enjoyable though. Happy Friday everyone!
15.01.2022 Last week and this week I have spent at my desk editing interview transcripts. Whilst it is really interesting, I get itchy feet. Also, day 7 of listening to my own voice is getting a bit much. I have the rest of this week to get as much done before I go back to paid work. I can do this! #phdlife #gradstudentproblems #procrastination
13.01.2022 Ethics update: Application by the committee received on Monday and already sent back for edits today. Sigh.
12.01.2022 Happy Friday peeps! This article from Sumerau, Mathers and Moon (2019) contains a handy reference guide to all terms related to gender that you might find handy. Don't know what cisgender means? Unsure as to how pansexuality is defined? This guide may help. Cheers
11.01.2022 Momentous day today: Day 1 of fieldwork. I have my very first interview. Wish us luck!
10.01.2022 Trying to write a paragraph about the perils and advantages of insider research whilst my schnauzer assists, on this rainy and cold Sunday.
10.01.2022 A really simple and useful way to demystify Intersectionality as a construct, to a more pragmatic approach to managing diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

09.01.2022 An interesting discourse on the potential impacts of 'straight pride' parades on the queer communities. A good read. Enjoy. https://s3.amazonaws.com//Dont_Rain_on_My_Parade20190922-8
07.01.2022 Some good and simple points in here that explain Intersectionality and why it is important in corporate diversity and inclusion conversations.

04.01.2022 Mostly I get people saying ‘that sound really interesting.’ What invariably follows is that they back away from me with a frozen smile.
03.01.2022 This. A thousand times this.
01.01.2022 This is a really good read. The stats are quite shocking. Oh and for the record, I have, and continue to think about quitting often and regularly.
01.01.2022 I'm now in the fieldwork section of my PhD which is super exciting. There is a theme of 'the authentic self' that keeps coming up. How much of ourselves to we hide to 'fit in', to 'get ahead'. And this isn't just about sexuality. This is any kind of difference you might feel you have. Sexuality, faith, abilities, backgrounds, health issues, mental health concerns, or anything that makes you feel a sense of 'otherness'. Ample research suggests that opening up brings big results, but being brave to do isn't always easy. Your thoughts?
01.01.2022 In the proposal you describe how you're going to change the world, solve great problems and win the Nobel Prize. In reality you make a very small, but still important, contribution to the body of knowledge. #PhDchat #ECRchat #postdoc #PhDforum #academicchatter
