18.01.2022 Weve all had some time off from our usual sport and physical activity. Due to this, most of us will be in a deconditioned state. Whilst we may want to be able to jump back in and perform at the level we were before the extended break, doing so opens us up for an increased risk of injury. To safely build back your fitness and strength levels you need to determine where you are now and where you want to be. You also need to consider the unique demands of your sport and/or posi...tion. We have come up with some guidelines to help you to get back to where you want to be. Start slow- start with 2 or 3 sessions in a week for 60 mins and slowly build up from this point each week, until you reach your previous activity levels Expect some DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness)- remember to have an appropriate warm-up/cool-down in your sessions and do some active recovery at home to assist with this Start at a lower intensity or resistance than pre break levels, if you try and jump back in and lift too heavy or go too hard too soon you leave yourself vulnerable to injury. Be patient! It will take some time to return to your previous strength and fitness levels. But remember this is the same for everyone. If you want a specific return to training plan give the clinic a call on 9879 5628 and book a time to see one of our exercise physiologists who can work with you to create an individualised plan.
