14.01.2022 The Rivals Written by Richard Brinsley Sheridan and directed by Matthew Chapman LIVE at the Arts Theatre in December! It's 1775. A swashbuckling hero. A romantic beauty. A tortured lover. A damsel in distress. A jealous rival. A social-climbing aunt. A tyrannical father. All are set to explode in a trip down to Bath, in this beautiful comedy of manners...as in bad manners. Richard Brinsley Sheridan was England's first celebrity playwright: controversy and excitement followe...d him everywhere. In The Rivals he turns to his infamous elopement with one Elizabeth Linley (in which Sheridan himself was disowned by his parents and made to fight three duels from jealous suitors and nearly resulted in his own death), into a sexy, naughty and intelligent romp full of wit and excitement. When The Rivals, his first full play, appeared, Sheridan shook out the dust from the boring, morally dictatorial theatre of the day, and had his audiences swinging from the chandeliers. Almost 250 years later, and that’s exactly what we need: a right royal romp. Book here: https://www.trybooking.com/events/landing?eid=665234&

12.01.2022 The Rivals Written by Richard Brinsley Sheridan Directed by Matt Chapman Performances on the 3, 4 and 6 of December! ... Only 15 tickets available! Despite being a brilliant writer, Richard Brinsley Sheridan didn't care much for the theatre: he was in charge of the Drury Lane Theatre in London when it burnt down in 1809. Eyewitnesses reported that as the building burnt to the ground, Sheridan sipped a glass of wine. When asked he was reported to have said: A man may surely be able to take a glass of wine by his own fireside. This wit is found throughout The Rivals, his first proper play, opening this week. It's the perfect comedy to end the year on. Book here: https://www.trybooking.com/book/sessions?eid=665234 Please note: seating arrangement may differ from Try Booking due to current covid restrictions in place. Audience numbers are limited and patrons will be spread out accordingly.
