25.01.2022 In case you slept in this morning, Steve joined Keith Conlon and Lainie Anderson, and a team of media pros from Channel 44, to create the first ever live stream telecast of the Bay to Birdwood. Here are some screenshots of Steve in action - keep an eye on his Harry Potter wand which he used while interviewing Dr Toby Coates about his car "Voldemort", which had never made it all the way along the course! Three hours of South Australian major event history screens tonight on Channel 44 - that's local and free-to-air - from 7pm to 10pm.

24.01.2022 A fascinating episode out later today with DreamBig Children's Festival Creative Producer, Susannah Sweeney, joining Steve to talk about her life in the arts, the profound significance of the arts for children, and uncanny way Covid-19 has bolstered the offerings for next year's festival. We'll also have a great track from Don Morrison, perfectly timed to capture the spirit of the Bay to Birdwood, which we'll be streaming live from 8.30 this morning, and some wine from DiGiorgio Family Wines to help us brace for the last chilly throes of spring. But first, in this promo video, Steve gets Susannah to critique two puppet shows improvised by his daughters, in the hope of sneaking them into the program. Let's just say, despite knowing each other for 30 years, Susannah does not give in to peer pressure or elaborate displays of sycophancy!

24.01.2022 If you've had enough of every Facebook friend becoming an instant expert in epidemiology and ranting to the heavens about how they would have done it better, you'll love our next episode. On Friday afternoon, we'll be interviewing a fair dinkum infectious diseases epidemiologist, Dr Jacqueline Stephens, Research Fellow and Epidemiologist at Flinders University. In the episode we create, we will work through a deep and nuanced understanding of the complexity of dealing with pa...ndemics like Covid-19, both from the pure medical perspective as well as from the public health and political perspective. And Nigel Dobson will be returning for this important discussion so that he can further tease apart the high stakes game our community is playing when bad actors and misguided people are undermining solid science with their faddish, anecdotally-based, simplistic solutions that are completely irresponsible and further cause damage to the social fabric. If you would like to submit a question, please message us now either with a text message or share a recorded message. This will be one of the most important episodes we've ever done and we hope it will help innoculate you against the misguided denialism and lunacy of some very noisy parts of our Facebook world. And to those experts working behind the scenes at SA Health, you might appreciate our planned exploration of the Dunning-Kruger Effect in which people with just a grain of knowledge think they know everything and people who are decades deep in a discipline understand, humbly, just how much more there is to learn. As a final note, we'll be quoting some comments from Nicholas A. Christakis, MD, PhD, MPH, the Sterling Professor of Social and Natural Science at Yale University, where he directs the Human Nature Lab and is the Co-Director of the Yale Institute for Network Science, from his recent appearance on Sam Harris' Making Sense podcast, in which he eloquently reminds us that pandemics are not uncommon for humankind and happen every 50 to 100 years. He makes the point that were it not for the toxic leadership of the Trump White House (and other populist leaders) in tearing out the heart of trust in our institutions and science, Covid might not have had such an easy run, abetted by ineptitude and pig headedness. Especially when we realise that Trump was advised of the upcoming pandemic in December last year. In short, it is time for our community to grow up, be decent again, and dismiss the noise of the people who would rather cling to a despot and his broken, poisonous ideas instead of doing the hard yards and digging in for the community. Here's to intelligence and an appreciation of nuance. PS And unlike brittle outlets like Sky News, we will cover any questions or comments submitted because our only agenda is evidence-based understanding, not conspiracy theories dictated to us by a tyrant ;-)

23.01.2022 Amid the gravity of the pandemic comes this light gesture of relief from our friends at the Adelaide Mail. The unofficial official name for the pigeon in Rundle Mall shall hereby be Flip. Our suggested usage: Do you want to hook up by the balls or Flip the bird?

23.01.2022 A Monday morning is always a great opportunity to "start again" and to fire up some new dreams. That's why this episode is perfect fo you to start listening to today because it's a wonderful chat with Susannah Sweeney, Creative Producer of the DreamBig Children's Festival. We learn a lot about the important role the arts has in the life of children (and science too) and when you've finished listening you're bound to have a newfound respect for childrens' theatre and the legac...y of Don Dunstan which was the Come Out Festival. Lots of mentions of great creators from SA including Slingsby, Windmill Theatre Co, Patch Theatre, Brink Productions, just to name a few. NOTE: For any teachers out there (and parents of young children), we'd almost suggest this episode is mandatory listening! We begin with a Cabernet Franc from DiGiorgio Family Wines in Coonawarra as our SA Drink Of The Week, and finish with an "all Adelaide" tune, Grand Junction Road, by Don Morrison. Our tip: Listen deep, then dream big. Enjoy.

21.01.2022 KYM PURLING & PURLING INTERNATIONAL is an international star and has played with Harry Connick Jr, Engelbert Humperdinck, Natalie Cole, and many, many other big names in music and jazz, including SteveDavisDrums (the other Steve Davis). In the full episode being released this week, Kym will dive deep into his early life growing up in Adelaide in the 70s, stories about being one of the first children adopted from war torn Vietnam, jazz as a music form, and the art of performance. WBut in this preview video, ahead of Kym's sold out Southern Jazz Club Inc performances at the The Highway, he draws the short straw and has to give Steve a lesson in jazz piano. WARNING: This is truly painful to watch LOL

18.01.2022 As this post from SA Health points out, there are many, many medical people working in the frontline against Covid-19, and Dr Dharminy Thurairatnam is yet another one who is putting their years of study and personal drive to work for the common good. Hats off to you - while keeping masks on!! And please keep an eye out for a special episode about the complexity of dealing with pandemics when we have an epidemiologist join us soon. Yes, we know almost everybody in your Facebook feed has become an epidemiologist overnight, but our guest is a real one!

17.01.2022 Guess who's standing under the podcast version of mistletoe? It's you!! We've raided our present cupboard and come up with a special, bumper, Christmas stocking of audio treats for you, to see you through the festive period. How does this line up sound? Charles Firth from The Chaser Professor Barry Marshall (the Nobel Laureate who discovered that ulcers were not caused by acid but by bacteria - timely for post-feasting)... Ian McFadyen - the man who created the Comedy Company Professor Flint of Dinosaurs Down Under fame who has a new, unpluged album out And Australian sparkling winemaker, Trina Smith from Jacob's Creek who has a very special vintage sparkling being released under the name Jacob with fruit sourced from the Adelaide Hills and just south of the hills. That's a pretty exceptional lineup that we hope will pop your cork! See more

16.01.2022 This is why we need local press. Thank you, The Times, Victor Harbor, for shining a spotlight on this story. There are many layers to this and counterpoints regarding the safety and significance of the Causeway. As if to add insult to injury, the decision to award this project to a firm not from South Australia when Steven Marshall is quick to spruik buying local, is a profound disappointment to all; those for and against the project.... To quotet The Times: Plans to construct a new $31.1 million Granite Island Causeway and demolish the 150 year old original structure are set to move forward. The State Government has pledged to fund the project that could blow out to more than $35 million. McConnell Dowell Constructors has been chosen as the preferred option to design and construct the causeway. The company is not South Australian, but the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) told The Times multiple South Australian firms submitted a tender for the project, who cannot be disclosed due to confidentiality. McConnell Dowell is a major infrastructure construction company founded in New Zealand in 1961 and has an office in Melbourne, New Zealand and Pacific Islands and South-East Asia..

16.01.2022 This is a long post from South Australia Police but an invaluable read to share with anybody you know who is not up with digital trends. It could save them a lot of money and distress. Intriguingly, the Financial and Cybercrime Investigation Branch is referenced in the first novel of a former Adelaide Show guest, Lee Hopkins. The book is called Meningie Man. Anyway, please read on.

15.01.2022 Guard pelicans on duty at zEmu Bay, South Australia, Australia. More aesthetic delights on Authentic Kangaroo Island!

12.01.2022 What can we say? Steve went bush and came home with some great yarns from far north Flinders Ranges. In particular, he met the Reynolds family from Skytrek & Willow Springs Station - Brendan, Michelle, and Governess Carmel - and they gave him the lay of the land. In particular, that meant a rough, rockin' rollin' 4WD tour around their expansive and elevated property, along with the lowdown on why he still looked like a city slicker outsider despite his boots (non R.M.Williams...) and Akubra Hats hat. PS Despite the ribbing he received, Steve still thanks Adelaide Business Hub for making his trip up north possible. He also caught up with John from Teague's Hawker Motors & Visitor Information Centre and Kaye from Merna Mora Station at the Hawker Drought Muster, organised by various Rotary International clubs from Adelaide including Campbelltown Rotary and Magill Sunrise Rotary (Steve thinks - it got a bit hazy in the dust with so many people in town). And he finishes with a new song by J MILLA called 60k+, based on the National NAIDOC theme of Always Was Always Will Be. In fact, J-MILLA is opening NAIDOC week concerts on TikTOk Australia this coming Monday 9th November at 7pm SA time. He'll be doing a 20-30 minute set which will be F.U.N.! Oh, and our SA Drink Of The Week is from Eden Valley. It is a ripper of a Cab Sauv from Red Art - Rojomoma and the colour blows Steve away, much like the colours from the Flinders Ranges which were stunning.

10.01.2022 With the Adelaide Show Podcast, things always come early, including Christmas. So, tonight, we're going to share our special Christmas/New Year/Summer episode to see you through until 2021 and we've reached into the present cabinet to find some goodies! We have The Chaser founder, Charles Firth, Nobel Laureate, Professor, Barry Marshall, Comedy Company creator, Ian McFadyen, and a new track from Professor Flint of Dinosaurs Down Under fame. But as you'll see in the preview video, Steve got quite excited tasting a new, South Australian vintage sparkling wine called Jacob (by Jacob's Creek), with winemaker, Trina Smith! If you've been good, the episode will be in your podcast queue tomorrow night! If you've been naughty, it will be there twice!

10.01.2022 Steve's been to the Moon and back today, spending time at The Parks Theatre watching Claire Della and the Moon by Madness of Two theatre company. His verdict? It's worth launching yourself back into the experience of watching live theatre. To quote his review: I’m better off alone, exclaims Claire at one point, no you’re not, I reply, you deserve hearty audiences of parents and children so that we can all be better off. Season runs until October 4. Tix via https://www.madnessoftwo.com.au/claire-della-and-the-moon/

09.01.2022 The Adelaide Show angels - AJ 12 and Caitlin 10 - have prepared the set for interviewing DreamBig Children's Festival Creative Producer Susannah Sweeney about next year’s highlight of the arts calendar. The festival of stunning arts for children will take place shortly after whatever happens with the Adelaide Fringe next year.

08.01.2022 Hello friendsl One of our former podcasters, Brett Monten, is part of what sounds like a celebratory night of music composed by two legendary entities. This was planned for December but the hard lockdown knocked that on its head. So, let's stay One Step Ahead of disappointment and book some tickets now before Jack and Dianne snaffle them all.... - Steve

07.01.2022 Remember to stay close to the Adelaide Show podcast Facebook page today because we’ll be live streaming the telecast of the Bay To Birdwood. The telecast starts at 8:30 am, streaming around the world. Steve Davis will be one of the commentators along with Keith Conlon and Lainie Anderson and as you can see from this footage, he’s already picked up some tricks to apply on other mornings when he has an early start.

07.01.2022 Former guest on our podcast, Dr Bill Griggs, shared an interesting and helpful analogy today. It will become more timely as the next months unfold. If you missed his episode, all about applying medical aid under duress during emergencies and crises, it's here: https://theadelaideshow.com.au/p/183-paging-dr-bill-griggs/... A nice lead up to our special recording about epidemiology tomorrow afternoon.

06.01.2022 Steve ventured Into The Woods at Adelaide Botanic Garden last night for the Elephant in the Room Productions production of the Sondheim classic. And his verdict? He was glad he went on the journey even though he didn't make it home before dark!

04.01.2022 What a blast meeting Jo Irvine from Levrier by Jo Irvine in the Barossa today. Lots of tastings recorded for future shows, along with wines from Poonawatta and Red Art - Rojomoma. Plus Daphne the greyhound aka Lévrier.

03.01.2022 Steve Davis and Nigel Dobson have an extended conversation with Dr Jacqueline Stephens, Research Fellow and Epidemiologist at Flinders University. The goal of the interview is to help all of us have a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in dealing with pandemics like Covid-19. This video is just the preview chat. The full interview will be wherever you listen to podcasts and via http://theadelaideshow.com.au

03.01.2022 Bravo to Martha Lott and the Holden Street Theatres team for the launch of their Arts Park tonight. This is a new venture with a new building on site to house artists developing new work. Three points caught our attention: 1. Thanks to support from Arts SA, this new space will focus on affordability for artists 2. They want to support work that will enhance and/or challenge society for the common good 3. They have a dedicated area for the children of artists to be supported ...and supervised (great initiative, don’t you think, Ali Lopez?) And special thanks to Steve’s compadre from ABC Adelaide, Eddie Bannon, for taking this official snap of Steve and Martha. He should do more photography! Maybe he could enrol to use the Arts Park? See more

02.01.2022 In case you’ve missed the holiday edition of The Adelaide Show podcast, please look it up because one of the stocking-filler gems is a chat with Comedy Company creator, Ian McFadyen. Of course, he’s spent his life in media and has just published this thoughtful reflection on the influence of Hollywood culture in the MAGA shenanigans. His article is prompted by reading a deeply earnest discussion about completely fluff-worthy comic character movies. ... It’s a great read, ending with this thought: Can movies that extol the value of intelligence ever overcome the attraction of the mindless movies of Marvel and Christopher Nolan? Probably not. Firstly, because movies about smart people Imitation Game, Hidden Figures and so on depict intelligence as belonging only to a people with rare freakish, savant, abilities. Intelligence is not a quality you expect to find in the average citizen. Looks are far more important. Also, because intelligence leads to questioning and analysis, then doubt, and possibly denunciation, derision and denial, it is not something that advertisers, merchandisers, political parties, religious groups, conspiracy theorists, doomsday cults and the entertainment industry want to encourage. It could put them out of business.

02.01.2022 Raw honey and wild gin, this can only mean The Adelaide Show podcast crew is on Authentic Kangaroo Island!

01.01.2022 And just like that, another day in South Australia begins. Greetings from Foul Bay on Yorke Peninsula. #SouthAustralia #YorkePeninsula #Sunrise
