02.01.2022 I hated school back in the 80’s and Mum said I’d need to find a job if I wasn’t going to stay at school! So I did, in a hairdressers, I lasted 14 days and realised it wasn’t for me. There was a textiles factory around the corner from where I lived and in those days you got a job if you ‘knew’ someone, my Dad knew the designer (my Dad knows everyone!) After a quick ‘my daughter needs a job’ I started the next day and stayed till the factory closed down 5yrs later. I loved ever...ything about working there, I loved the people, the fabrics, learning to use the machines, pattern making, and the final result - seeing the beautiful clothes we created. My Mum loved tailored clothes and that’s what we made, so she became well I guess, my guinea pig for our designs. She’d stand still for hours while I pinned, cut, hemmed and then modelled what I’d just created. Unfortunately I lost my beautiful Mum last Thursday and I am heartbroken but I know she’ll still be there saying ‘what are you making now’. My Angel in the sky See more
