24.01.2022 During the recent E-Reef Conference 2020, Beth Firchau (Association of Zoos and Aquariums) and Brian Nelson(Assistant Curator Blue Wonders, National Aquarium) spoke on the AZA Florida Reef Tract Rescue Project. The Florida Reef Tract has been ravaged by a disease called Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease. In their talk Brian stated that Husbandry leads to Conservation. Public aquariums have been displaying for decades and more recently breeding corals. With this skillset they have embarked on this heroic rescue project that is likely to take 20 years to complete some real long term thinking! The basic concept is to hold and care for corals in aquariums until the disease has passed and it is safe to place them back in the environment.

21.01.2022 I had the pleasure of working with Gerhard Beukes while he was the Curator at Sea Life Sydney Aquarium. He was an excellent Curator, good leader and wonderful person. I am deeply saddened by his sudden death and ask you to assist his family in their time of need. Dr Rob.

13.01.2022 Aquariums and Zoos have evolved significantly over the last few decades. They are no longer just entertainment venues, but now play a critical role in research, breeding and conservation, education, habitat protection, and the list goes on. As reported in the Daily Mail, the legend himself, Sir David Attenborough, advocates the role of public aquariums and zoos in the continuing existence of species threatened with extinction. The Aquarium Vet is honoured in the responsibility we have, in the care and welfare of these incredibly amazing animals. https://www.dailymail.co.uk//Attenborough-argues-creatures
