Read about Jack's love of coffee and the versatility of Two Before Ten. Jack has worked at the city store and now roasting out of Aranda, hear what he has to say. ... Thanks, @tess_presso for the weekend feature with @jckjm Hats off to the young Jack Mann, who has been with the Two Before Ten team for over 2 years now. He just started roasting this year at their Aranda site, on Bandjalong Cres. Since relocating from Civic back in 2015, Two before Ten transformed this once unoccupied building into a cafe with adjoining roastery. As always, when traveling interstate I love meeting new baristas and roasters and Jack was certainly a breath of fresh air. He spoke of his love for the endless dynamics in coffee and the fact that you are forever learning when it comes to the humble brown bean. Jack also discussed the emphasis placed on sustainability at Two Before Ten, and the need for it to begin at the farm level. This young man was wise beyond his years and spoke with an eloquence that kept me hanging on his every word. I asked Jack when he had his first 'wow' moment with coffee, and his reply was like music to my ears. None other than a Natural Ethiopian guji, that he described as tasting like strawberry cheesecake. The future looks bright for Jack and the Two Before Ten team.... And yes, I managed to have a fair few more than 2 shots of coffee before 10 this morning. I call that a standard day. Where? 68 Bandjalong Cres

06.01.2022 There's recently been a new structure built at the Aranda Urban Farm - something we've been looking forward to for a long time. It's not quite ready yet, but wi...ll soon be the home for our Closed Loop commercial composter. Over the past few years we've been moving our packaging away from plastics and committing to compostable materials. While these paper and PLA based materials will breakdown eventually in home compost, what they really need is a hot, industrial style composter to move the whole process along in a matter of days as opposed to years. With nowhere yet in the ACT for people to drop these off, we thought we had better provide an option for customers to bring back their used cups and bags and see them turned into something useful again. Our BioPak takeaway cups and lids, retail coffee bags and food containers can all be processed through this system alongside spent coffee grounds and kitchen scraps. The end result: garden compost to lay onto the Urban Farm and feed the next round of crops. The composter will reduce approximately 21 tonnes of landfill per annum and produce 4.2 tones of soil conditioner per annum. 100% of the organic waste from across our stores could potentially be processed through the unit creating a productive, sustainable closed circle system. In the meantime, we are urging our community to continue utilising our sorting bins on site at Aranda. With your help we can become one step closer to zero waste. See more

03.01.2022 It's been six years today since we moved into the old Aranda shops building and a lot has changed in that time. After the site sat empty for many years, we took... on the challenge of renovating what was once an old grocers and butcher shop, turning the space into the Two Before Ten Cafe, Roastery, Bolt Bar and Illeso Studio. But the most exciting change is what's outside. Creating an Urban Farm had been a dream of ours for years. With the fruit trees now producing in abundance and the vegetable gardens packed full of crops, the garden has become a little green sanctuary producing a huge amount of food for our cafes and #UrbanFarmGoods. There are still plenty of projects and changes to come, but looking back, we're pretty proud of what the Aranda shops have become, and how the community have come together to bring life to this little corner of Canberra.

03.01.2022 Over the school holidays the Two Before Ten Urban Farm teamed up with Aranda Primary's vacation care program to run a sustainability workshop. The Honeysmith an...d Dan from Spored @ Banjo's Paddock also got involved with presentations and some hands-on time with the mushrooms and bees. We had 54 kids participating in different activities, including a bee talk & demonstration, mushroom workshop, seed planting and greenhouse making, and recycling and compost demonstration. It was a positive experience all round and great to be involved in a joint venture with the local community. Definitely something we'll be continuing into the future!
