24.01.2022 Some unconventional greenkeeping techniques being used on the top green at the Kyneton Bowling Club this week.
23.01.2022 Last Tuesday we renovated four cricket wickets at Strauch Reserve in Huntly for our new client - Huntly North Epsom Cricket Club. We scarified, topdressed and levelled all four wickets, and laid washed Santa Ana couch on two of them. We worked really fast and did it all in 6 minutes ;-) Here's a video, featuring the dueling mowers.... https://youtu.be/upYxid56hZk
17.01.2022 Meet Ryno, our aerating machine. Ryno can punch holes in your lawn, or take cores out of it, to decompact the soil and leave lots of holes for all the good things to go into - water, air, nutrients and other amendments if needed. It also helps with drainage, helping to prevent soggy, saturated lawns. Now is the ideal time to aerate your lawn and allow the goodness to get in.
11.01.2022 Our fleet has doubled in size!
10.01.2022 Renovation of our sports surfaces have begun with scarifying 1800m2 of Santa Ana couch at Sunbury Tennis Club. Scarifying thins out this very dense turf, helping air, water and nutrients gain better access to the soil. It also removes spongy thatch and helps to remove the weeds and moss we sprayed a few weeks ago. In the next few weeks we'll be renovating golf greens, cricket wickets, bowling greens and croquet lawns - getting all these surfaces ready for the summer sports season ahead.
10.01.2022 Following yesterday's work, today we loaded bins galore of Tiff Dwarf couch sprigs into a hyrdo-seeding truck, which carries a big tank that mixes the sprigs with a paper mache/pulp type of material. This is all then hosed onto the green we had lazer levelled yesterday. The pulp acts as a mulch, helping to keep the sprigs damp and protected as they take root into their new home. With frequent watering, hopefully we will soon see some new growth and the development of a new couch green.
09.01.2022 Coring and scarifying tees and greens
07.01.2022 It's all systems go at Kyneton Bowling Club this week as we get the top green laser-levelled in preparation for sprigging tomorrow. Meanwhile we have scarified the bottom green and are collecting all the tiny sprigs of Tiff Dwarf couch, ready for transfer onto the top green tomorrow.
07.01.2022 Time to dust off the mower and give the tennis courts a tidy-up. Collecting mainly leaves, worm castings and a bit of winter grass, but hey, who cares? It's just great to be out mowing again!
04.01.2022 It's a cracker day for putting down some stripes
03.01.2022 Last week we renovated a section of the Kyneton Croquet Club lawn. Firstly we aerated using "Ryno" to take cores out of the soil - this helps water, sand and nutrients to more easily enter the soil. It also promotes healthy root growth. Then we scarified the turf which cuts grooves into the turf and surface soil, thinning out the grass, removing thatch and assisting with water and nutrient infiltration. ... This created a bit of a mess, so we raked it all up and swept up the remaining debris - leaving an excellent seed bed for the seed we applied the following day. With a top-dress afterwards and some watering we'll see a lovely, rejuvenated surface in no time
02.01.2022 African Black Beetles. You may have seen these beetles on your lawns from time to time. Last summer was a bad season for them. If left untreated the result can be significant damage to your lawn. The beetles lay eggs in the soil in early Spring, which become larvae and then grubs. The larvae and grubs feed on the grass roots which can result in "browning off" and a dead lawn. With no roots remaining the turf dies and can easily be lifted up like carpet. ... Birds like to eat the beetles and larvae too, and will dig away furiously at the turf to find their prey, leaving a big mess and much damage in the process. Beetles can number in their hundreds on an average-size lawn. The scale and extent of damage can be significant. Spring time is the ideal time to treat the beetles and larvae - whilst they are small and yet to cause damage. Fortunately there's an excellent remedy available - a product called Acelepryn. Acelepryn is a highly-effective insecticide for the treatment of African Black Beetle, their larvae, and other lawn-damaging pests. Yet it is extremely safe for kids, pets and the environment - it's not even registered as a dangerous chemical like most insecticide products. Acelepryn is applied to the soil and is taken up by the plant - any pest that eats the plant will be paralyzed and die. It also provides excellent residual protection for 4-6 months, depending on conditions. It is very, very expensive though. Even though only small amounts are usually needed, the cost of the smallest bottle is likely to be beyond the average household lawn-care budget. Lucky for you, we have some :) If you notice these beetles on your lawn, and you'd like to prevent them from causing damage to your lawn, please give us a call, or leave a message for us via Facebook or Messenger.
