23.01.2022 Question: Why is it that one day I am happy and the next depressed? Swamiji: It is the nature of the mind to fluctuate. It is unstable. It takes the form of innumerable thoughts minute by minute. It is not surprising that it moves from mood to mood. Underlying these differing moods are unformed thoughts. These thoughts are so subtle we can call them unconscious. If you bring them to consciousness by means of Self-inquiry, your mind will become more stable. ...To make the mind steady it has to become established in the Awakened Self. Do not recoil from less than ideal states of mind. You can regard negative states as an opportunity to study that particular state. For example, if you feel depressed say to yourself: Ah, now I have an opportunity to study depression from inside. How intriguing! The more intimately you know and understand the various mind states you experience, the more wisdom you will have, and the greater will be your capacity to shift out of them. #happyfornogoodreason #swamishankarananda #meditation #meditate #selfinquiry #guidedmeditation #melbournemeditation #meditationmelbourne #melbourneyoga #freemeditation #sadhana #yoga #yogi #meditateeveryday #mounteliza #happy #themind #Mindfulness #mantra #japa #omnamahshivaya #mentalhealth #emotions #kashmirshaivism #learntomeditate #meditateonline #yogaphilosophy #jnana #dharana #ashram See more

17.01.2022 Kabir wrote, karo satsang gurudeva se, "Keep the company of the Guru." God becomes one with a person who has drunk the nectar of satsang, who has great love for satsang, and who through satsang has attained the kingdom of the supreme state of liberation. There may be many great sadhanas for attaining God, but satsang is the most sublime. It bears fruit instantly; in fact, all sadhanas bear fruit because of it. Through satsang one's desires are fulfilled; ...one learns to meditate ceaselessly on the supreme Self and then does not have to do any other sadhana. Knowers of the Truth, great yogis, and enlightened beings with equal vision have satsang and become serene. - Baba Muktananda Join us tonight, and every Saturday night at 7:15pm AEDT for satsang with Guruji, Devi Ma, and the global ashram community. 11.01.2022 The comprehensive Shaivite meditation is to find the bliss of the world. The world is complex and hidden in it are kernels of light, of divinity. We can be like the crow and ignore what is joyous and find the negative. Or we can be like the swan. In India the swan symbolises discrimination. It is said that if you were to throw milk into a pond, the swan could find the milk and leave the water. It has the ability to extract what is truly valuable. ~ Swami Shankarananda

Visit our website (link in bio) to sign up! Testimonial from the last Intensive in July: Yes, I thought it felt like a "real" Intensive. I have taken many during the last 36 years. The effects started... earlier for me, as a physical Intensive usually does, with Vani Ma's MC talk at Saturday's satsang that was really moving. Though I couldn't bring myself to get up at 2 am (my time zone) for the Intensive's live transmission, I distinctly felt this special atmosphere with a kind of warm energy flooding from the screen when I started to watch the replay 7 hours later. I think this new format is a fantastic one, please keep it! ... Swamiji just showered us with inspiring food for thought and practice... Also, Devi Ma's talk was a real pleasure to listen to, as always. And I always love Lila's MC talks. The meditations were enveloping. - C. Germany See more
07.01.2022 Bhagavan Nityananda, Swami Muktananda’s Guru, was born in South India. Little is known about his childhood and upbringing. His mother was a serving woman who worked for the lawyer, Ishwar Iyer. The latter became very attached to the young Nityananda (then called Ramana) and raised him with love. Ramana left home at an early age to search for God-realisation. After some years he returned to his village. Now his yogic attainment was palpable. There are many m...iracle stories from these years, many reported healings and displays of occult powers. He gained a reputation in South India as an adept yogi and holy man. After extensive wandering, Nityananda came to the Western state of Maharashtra. The area where he stayed was a sacred place, but a wilderness. He eventually settled near some hot springs and an ancient Shiva temple about 50 miles from Mumbai. The town of Ganeshpuri sprang up around him as the focal point. Over time his reputation as a great seer with the ability to awaken the Consciousness of seekers spread. Today, he is recognised as a true avadhuta, an exalted being reminiscent of the great Vedic seers. He and two other great modern yogis, Akkalkot Swami (Swami Samartha) and Sai Baba of Shirdi, are often mentioned as three of the most extraordinary and mysterious Siddhas (perfected masters) of recent years. There is no real biography of Bhagavan Nityananda. Instead, his life history is like Puranic myth. He seems more in touch with the impersonal than with personhood. Nonetheless, there is no denying the immense impact he has had on thousands of people. You can connect with the great well-spring of Nityananda's shakti this week in our online retreat, honouring his birth. Message us to register and learn more. See more
07.01.2022 If we would stop running, and sit down quietly and meditate, the reason for our running would be fulfilled, our suffering and despair would go, and we would find inside a divine peace, so that whatever condition we were in there would be no decrease in its intoxication. - Baba Muktananda

05.01.2022 'A yogi has to always attend to his feeling state. He has to be alert to the downward shift of feeling and look for upward shifts. From a certain perspective, yoga is simply the skill of remaining in a state of peace, love, joy and contentment. Bhavana rakho can also be translated as ‘maintain the [good] feeling’. To reduce the yoga of feeling to its essentials: when you are in a good state you have to ‘maintain the feeling’; when you are in a bad state you have to ...uplift the feeling. Bhavana rakho reminds us to address both these possibilities. It is Bhagavan Nityananda shorthand. This phrase speaks to me like no other. Bhavana rakho sums up the yoga we practised with Baba. The ashram was a psychic pool seething with Shakti, tests, and pitfalls. Our job was to follow the schedule and also to ‘keep the feeling’. The practices were designed to burn out the tendencies that took us away from our centre. Sri Aurobindo used to make the same point. He said the first job of a seeker was to stay in a calm and peaceful state. Only then, he would say, could the Force work on one. Aurobindo’s Force, of course, was the same as Baba’s Shakti, and while we had to be very active in expelling our negative tendencies, we had to be passively receptive to that higher power. Sometimes we feel that the universe is set up against us: to deny us what we want. Perhaps it is set up perfectly for us in a different way to teach us what we need to learn. Bhavana rakho says that it’s not about getting what we want, it is about being peaceful no matter what happens.' - Swami Shankarananda, Ganeshpuri Days: Memoirs of a Western Yogi Join Swamiji for his New Year's Message satsang online on Saturday, January 9th. 05.01.2022 My first glimpse of Baba was in a large tent pitched on a devotees property on Suneri Bagh Road in Delhi. He reclined on a low throne. Hundreds of people sat around him. He seemed powerful and self- contained, receiving garlands in a detached way. Surprisingly, a considerable number of military people in uniform were sitting in the posture of devotees. In America the gulf between an army officer and spirituality was immense. Somehow, in India, the two could coexist. I was ...riveted by Baba, taken by the way his hands and feet moved and the sudden way he sometimes changed position. When he sat in an asana he seemed the perfect yogi. When he autographed a book or photo he wrote in a peculiar way, from the elbow, with no wasted pressure, effortlessly. He lounged on his seat and every muscle was relaxed. ~ Swami Shankarananda, Ganeshpuri Days: Memoirs of a Western Yogi. Now available worldwide, link in bio. See more

02.01.2022 Good morning and love from the ashramites (ashram residents)!
02.01.2022 Healing mantras for the world!
01.01.2022 Question: It seems to me that I have trust issues and that even if I heard the voice of the Self, I wouldn’t believe it. Do you have any suggestions? Swamiji: It’s not so much that you have trust issues as you have doubt issues. You have a habit of doubting everything and you need to see it and overcome it. The kind of trust I’m talking about is not the kind of trust we associate with blind faith. In that kind of trust, somebody says, ‘Trust me, it’s ...this way’; you say, ‘I don’t feel good about it’. What I’m talking about is trusting and going with the sense of harmony and peace that certain choices give you. If the Self tells you this is correct, trust that feeling or intuition. Then a voice arises and wonders if it’s wrong. That is just your habit of doubt. Get rid of it. Trusting the good inner feeling can lead you into unexpected territory. It can stretch you and help you grow. Paying attention to the voice of the Self, the upward shift of feeling, actually entails a new way of living, a new criterion of choice. It is a criterion beyond the mind. Here’s something you can trust: the Self is stronger than the mind. It might look as though your mind completely defeats you at every turn, but in fact it’s far too weak, flighty, indulgent, negative (add whatever adjective you like). Despite appearances, it’s an unequal struggle that the Self will win. I’ve been doing this for a long time and I don’t doubt this; I have seen so much improvement in so many people and dozens of extraordinary transformations. #swamishankarananda #selfinquiry #selfenquiry #astatement #present #feeling #emotion #thoughts #shivaprocess #meditation #meditate #awareness #mindfulness #consciousness #atmavichara #atma #ramanamaharshi #sadhana #shaivism #kashmirshaivism #spirituality #meditateeveryday #selfawareness #selfwork #accountability #yogaphilosophy #dharana #shakti #shaktipat #themind See more
01.01.2022 Q: What is grace? Swamiji: Grace is light. Grace is pure awareness. Grace is absolute upliftment, oneness, love and peace. Grace is the goal of yoga and it is what we look for in meditation. Kashmir Shaivism talks about the five processes of the Lord. The last two are concealment and grace. These two refer to two orders of reality or two worlds: the karmic world and the world of grace. The karmic world is the world of matter. It is mar...ked by cause and effect. Everything is limited and determined. There is no freedom at all. The world of grace is a world of pure Consciousness. Its laws are completely different from the karmic world. Here, the impossible becomes possible. Instead of causality and determinism, there is pure freedom, svatantrya. Freedom of will is a property of Consciousness, while determinism and mechanicalness are properties of matter. The higher you go, the closer to divine Consciousness, the more freedom you have. The lower down the chain, the more mechanical you are. Therefore, when a yogi is connected to the Self he has free will. But if he lets his samskaras run him then his free will is vitiated. ... Grace is another world living at the core of this world. It is invisible to the gross eye of materiality, but it is completely real. The world of grace is more real than the material world, though only those who are awake experience it. In truth, grace is the very underpinning of the whole universe. One who has had the experience of grace becomes intoxicated with God. I think of Coleridge’s lines in Kubla Khan, ‘Beware! Beware! His flashing eyes, his floating hair! Weave a circle round him thrice, And close your eyes with holy dread, For he on honey-dew hath fed, And drunk the milk of Paradise’.
