23.01.2022 The field update for July 2020 is now available on the Tsavo Trust website and as always provide a unique insight into what the aerial & ground teams are seeing and experiencing. A great aerial sighting of iconic Tusker IL-1 but also increases in bushmeat poaching which is surging in Africa right now as communities struggle with their incomes decimated from tourism basically coming to a complete halt. Also, fires have seen 100,000 acres of grass land burnt in Tsavo West, whic...h is a further blow for wildlife in this dry, arid region. 22.01.2022 To all our Askari Project Supporters & Elephant Lovers, We hope you & your families are all well during this incredibly difficult time. Whilst this escalating situation is having an enormous impact on our human population around the globe, the fallout will also have ongoing impact on the conservation of wildlife species, possibly for years to come. With so many people affected from both a health & financial perspective funding for the continued monitoring & protection of wild...life will be scarce for the foreseeable future. Just last week our conservation partner in Kenya - The Tsavo Trust announced cost cutting strategies due to the decline in revenue which will affect 40% of their operating capacity. The Askari Project has devised a fundraising solution that aims to help both people and elephants during this pandemic to try and fill some funding gaps to ensure that these vital services of patrol flights and monitoring vehicles are still able to operate in Tsavo. Currently there are many people who have been left frustrated at the empty shelves in many of our supermarkets around Australia. As such we would like to announce the addition of two fundraising Soap Gift Packs that not only help us in this time of increased hygiene but 100% of the profits of each pack sold will like all funding raised from our activities be directed toward the important Big Tusker monitoring program in Tsavo. Please follow this link to purchase your Askari Soap Gift Packs today and they will sent immediately to you via Parcel Post. https://www.theaskariproject.org/shop ** For residents in our local area of Dubbo please enter Dubbo Delivery in the 'Enter a Promo Code' section of the cart prior to checkout and these items can be delivered without incurring a postage charge.

20.01.2022 If you are a regular reader of our articles, you may have seen our last article on how conservation has been affected by the Coronavirus pandemic. As many of yo...u will know, poaching is very often the unfortunate side effect of socioeconomic hardship, especially bushmeat poaching. Poachers often come from the more disadvantaged groups of society and illegal hunting often rises in times of hardship. We are currently living through such a time. https://tsavotrust.org/the-tsavo-trust-and-conservation-in/
18.01.2022 Today is World Elephant Day! Whilst most would agree there has been very little to cheer about in 2020 so far August the 12th is the day for us to recognise & celebrate the world's largest land animal and all the things that make them special and adored around the world. Indeed they face a multitude of threats & dangers to their survival across Africa & Asia such as poaching for their ivory tusks & skin and the ever increasing issue of Human-Elephant conflict due to continuin...g large scale habitat loss. It is easy to feel a sense of frustration & sadness at some of the statistics and news stories out there at times but elephants are one of natures great survivors and there are many great individuals & organisations across Africa & Asia working tirelessly for their conservation and encouragingly in some parts there have been gains & success stories. The current pandemic situation we find ourselves in unfortunately means many wildlife conservation organisations are struggling for funds to continue their vital work. So on days like this please spare a thought for the future we want for elephants and support organisations like The Tsavo Trust who The Askari Project directs 100% of the funding we raise to help the monitoring & protection of iconic Tuskers in Tsavo, Kenya. With only 25 or so Tuskers left on the entire continent of Africa these incredible elephants are the some of the very last of their kind. You can support this work directly by donating at : https://www.givengain.com/cc/big-tusker-project-2019/ Or alternatively browse our Askari Project online store for elephant / African inspired products of which 100% of the profits are directed to monitoring these iconic giants. https://www.theaskariproject.org/shop

12.01.2022 Fantastic update from Tsavo on Tusker WS-1 in time for World Elephant Day. Hopefully his wanderings will result in possible future Tuskers that will follow in his footsteps and continue the magic of Tsavo alive in the decades to come.

09.01.2022 Here is a pic & brief overview of one of the Tsavo Trust patrol planes which is so vital in the aerial monitoring program undertaken in Tsavo which is a region whose total area is slightly larger than size of the entire country of Switzerland.

03.01.2022 A great post from The Tsavo Trust team on the Tusker KE-1 who became the TT logo some years ago and was the inspiration behind the vital conservation work they have and continue to perform in the vast Tsavo ecosystem. The Askari Project is proud to direct 100% of the funds we raise from our activities to the aerial & ground operations that monitor and protect the last of these African giants.

01.01.2022 The importance of ‘big tuskers’ Elephants use their tusks in a variety of ways to assist in their daily routine. They offer protection against predators, help t...hem dig, forage and strip bark from trees. Additionally, bull elephants use their tusks as a display feature to attract the interest of females. By protecting the ‘big tuskers’ and ensuring they live a happy and normal life, elephant conservationists ensure that their genes remain in the gene pool and the presence of ‘big tuskers’ in Tsavo and the rest of Africa can be continued. A future where there are no ‘big tuskers’ in Tsavo is not worth thinking about. The presence of these majestic animals brings huge numbers of tourists to the park every year and that income is vital to further conservation efforts and supporting local communities. In Kenya, the co-dependence between humans and animals is strong and at Tsavo Trust we are doing all we can for this beautiful relationship to continue and modernise. Tsavo Trust and donors who wish to remain anonymous have created a match for match campaign to support the Super Tuskers of Tsavo #savingTsavosTuskers. As many may know funding for conservation activities have been significantly reduced due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, we are reaching out to you, our avid supporters to help us protect these iconic elephants. These are tough times for all of us and any contribution will help to secure wildlife that is facing increased threats. Please hit the link in our bio to help support. https://www.givengain.com/cc/saving-tsavos-tuskers/ Pic : Tsavo Trust / @nicholashaller
