25.01.2022 "My mummy says I'm a miracle!"

25.01.2022 After 6 years of shooting weddings, I shot my last one on Saturday and what a way to go out! Jacqui and MJ's wedding was full of fun, laughter and love and a pleasure to be a part of. I wish to thank all the couples I've worked with over the years and all the amazing local suppliers. Michael Kennedy Photography will continue into the future with an increased focus on Theatre and Dance photography and I invite you all to stay and follow the journey.... Jacqui and MJ's Wedding Vendors: Celebrant: Brenda Fisher Venue: Rainforest Ranch Event suppliers: Rainforest Ranch, CQ Party Hire, Yeppoon Parties & Events Flowers: Abbie Pollard Caterer: Tall Poppy Catering Videographer: DejaVu Photo&Film

24.01.2022 APPRECIATION TIME. First of all, I would like to thank all of my lovely clients for their patience over the last couple of weeks as you wait for responses or for the delivery of your work. I've been putting in 14 hour days for the past week at the Pilbeam Theatre but will be working doubly as hard this week to catch up and respond to you all. Next, I would like to thank the CQ community for coming out in numbers to support the kids in Matilda over the weekend. We had 3 full h...ouses and a well attended fourth with standing ovations for the kids in two of the shows. A very special thank you to my mother Jan Kennedy who for 25 years has been the heart and force behind RGS musicals. She gives so much of herself to these shows and she does it all for the benefit of the kids. I have been the photographer for RGS musicals for 10 years now, but for the past 3 years, I have had the privilege of taking on the roles of Set designer, Lighting designer and Assistant Director. This year we've been a formidable team with a complementary skillset. Our mindset is always to provide the children with the most professional experience possible. Finally thanks to my wife, Alaina Kennedy who has not only had a large involvement in the show herself but also has supported my involvement and the many hours devoted to the show. There are of course one hundred other people I'd like to thank for making this production possible, but I can't, unfortunately, name them all. But a heartfelt thank you to all involved: Cast, Band, Crew and mother's and fathers who all gave up their time to give these kids an amazing experience.

22.01.2022 Big thank you to Team Digital for sponsoring the AIPP Silver Linings award and for sending me 2 Nanlite Pavotube II 6c lights for my 3rd place in the Goods and Services category. These are really cool little RGB LED lights that will be super versatile for stills and video work. Check out https://www.teamdigital.com.au if you're interested in taking a look. #aippofficial

22.01.2022 Things are going to look a little different around here... So if you haven’t worked it out yet, I love theatre. Maybe I didn’t have much of a choice in that regard. Like many, I was born into a family whose parents spent most of their free time treading the boards. Many weekends and nights were spent at musical theatre rehearsals and also a great deal of time waiting outside my sisters’ dance school or attending her performances. Oh sure, I resisted for a while, but eventuall...y at the age of 12 curiosity got the better of me and I decided to try my hand at helping out backstage. A lot of people’s stories have a similar start with theatre. You just dip your toe in to see how it feels, but pretty soon your swimming laps and can’t get enough. After some fairly lacklustre on-stage performances by myself during high school, and despite still loving theatre, over time I realised my talents were better suited to working behind the scenes. I’ve spent my photographic career supporting theatre and dance and making it a core focus of my business. In December 2019, we made the permanent move to Canberra to allow my wife to pursue her own career goals. I made the decision with my business to move away from the wedding industry and commit 100% to theatre and dance, with a hope to create the same amazing working relationships with dance studios and theatre groups in Canberra that I have in Rockhampton. I also promised my very valued clients in Rockhampton that I would regularly return so they wouldn’t see the end of me. The year 2020, as we know, doesn’t really care about any of that. COVID-19 has temporarily taken the theatre industry away from us all. For months, I lamented the loss of my business and was devastated for our many friends in the industry that have had their livelihoods taken from them. However, I remain positive for the future and am still committed to my goal of becoming the country’s top theatre and dance photographer. For 11 years I have been trading as Michael Kennedy Photography, but soon you will notice a change in my branding. Going forward we will be trading as THEATRE GHOST. We will be offering the same award-winning photography and will be expanding our video production offerings. We look forward to supporting the industry as it gets back on its feet and thank everyone for their valuable and continued support.

22.01.2022 Stoked to let everyone know that one of my images in the Goods and Services category for Silver Linings Awards is now a Finalist! https://aippawards.com.au//sl/sla-goods-and-services-2020/

21.01.2022 DANCEFEST ONLINE GALLERIES! Hi everyone, we've had a few days to catch our breath and spend a bit of time with our family and now we're back into action. But, first of all, I would like to say a massive thank you to the Rockhampton Dance Festival Committee for inviting me to be a part of this year's festival and the tremendous support for me and my team you provided throughout.... Thanks to the staff at the Pilbeam Theatre, particularly Peter Owens for tweaking lighting throughout the festival so that I could deliver the best possible product to competitors. To my beautiful wife Alaina Kennedy and amazing mum Jan Kennedy for putting in a massive effort before, during and after the Festival; I couldn't have done it without you both. To Tony Kennedy and Nicole Kennedy for tech support and problem-solving of the Kiosk and also Violet and Charlotte for being so patient and understanding of their family being unavailable to them these last couple of weeks. Finally a huge thanks to every family that came in and supported us and all the kind words as well. ONLINE GALLERIES: A number of parents were disheartened that they were unable to make it into the Kiosk to see photos and order galleries during the festival and many parents haven't been able to view images from the last days' sections. So we will be facilitating the set up of online galleries this week. A number of you have already filled out a form at the Pilbeam and your galleries will be sent to you during the week. If anyone else wishes to have private galleries of their child's routines set up for them you only need to send an email to [email protected] with a list of sections and competitor numbers and we will get them sent out as well. Thanks again and I hope you enjoy your images. With much gratitude, Michael.

18.01.2022 3RD PLACE - GOODS AND SERVICES! Last night the AIPP held the online presentations for the first-ever Silver Linings Awards. I was so thrilled to be a finalist in the Goods and Services category and proud to have an image alongside so many incredible works of art. So to come away with 3rd place in the category just blew me away. It also means a lot to me to represent theatre on this platform during these awful times where the industry is really hurting. Thanks to AIPP and the awards team for putting on an amazing event and to all the generous sponsors who help to make it possible. Congratulations to all the finalists and winners last night. #silverliningsawards #aipp

12.01.2022 THANKS ROCKY and MERRY CHRISTMAS! I sincerely wish to thank everyone for the incredible support for Michael Kennedy Photography this past year. It has been our biggest year to date, and while it's been incredibly busy we've enjoyed every minute of it. As you may already know, my family and I have made the move to Canberra to further my Wife Alaina's career. We're very sad to be leaving behind family and wonderful friends but excited for new adventures ahead.... I've been overwhelmed the past few months with many people expressing their sadness that Michael Kennedy Photography is moving away, but I wish to assure everyone that I will be back regularly throughout 2020, including Dancefest and other concerts. Keep your eyes peeled to this page as I will be offering photoshoots when I visit, but these will be limited in number. When I moved back to Rockhampton in 2014 my mission statement was to help promote and develop Dance and Theatre in Rockhampton by offering amateur productions a professional approach at an affordable cost. Also to preserve precious memories for performers and their families. In the past 5 years, I've been fortunate enough to have a tremendous amount of support from the Arts community and I'm invested in the future success and development of Theatre and Dance. I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and look forward to what 2020 brings!
