07.01.2022 The 20/21 Aurora Grants round is now open. We are committed to supporting grassroots LGBTIQ groups who support our community. Applying for a grant is super easy (just head over to our website http://www.auroragroup.com.au/grants/) . The photo below is Daniel from Aurora with Jo from the Hunter Gener Alliance (HGA). To read more about how HGA used their Aurora grant and bring some joy and pride to your day keep reading. Too often trans and gender diverse (TGD) people’s stori...es are told by celebrities, by opinions in the media, by medical experts or by academics. Too often the stories of TGD folks are not told in their own words, on their own terms. There’s not a lot of space for gender diverse stories in mainstream media. This is a first of a kind exhibition, hosted by HGA with the support of Aurora, to hear TGD stories in their own words. You can’t be what you can’t see - TGD people learn about what living as a trans or gender diverse could be from other TGD people, by hearing their stories and identifying commonalities with their own story. In 2020, the year of feeling disconnected, due to changes in how we live, work & socialise, HGA wanted to bring TGD people together - to tell their stories and feel connected. With the generous support of Aurora, HGA facilitated a series of workshops for TGD young people to better understand their experiences by telling their stories, with the option of submitting it to the exhibition at the conclusion of the workshops. It is vital for TGD people to write with a facilitator who is also TGD it gives them familiarity and connection they need to be vulnerable with themselves and in their writing. Our stories are often told for us, so it’s crucial to provide young TGD people with the space, with the tools and the confidence to tell their own stories. Heading into the workshops, I think most participants already knew the story they wanted to tell, they were just unsure of how to tell it. It was such a joyous experience to connect with this group of young TGD people. I watched as the confidence in their writing skills grew over time, as they gained the skills they needed to tell their stories in their own words. In the workshops we covered how to start the writing process, as well as topics to write about, the forms they might take, and what to do once you’ve written something. I was also able to mentor workshop participants one-on-one, assisting them more with their writing ideas and fine-tuning their work. Rae White, Workshop Facilitator The exhibition went live in August 2020

05.01.2022 Aurora is so proud to support some incredible LGBTQ+ projects in 2020, one of which is Acon's Trans Hub. This essential digital resource for trans and gender diverse people, their loved ones and health professionals was launched back in March for Trans Day of Visibility and since then, over 55k of you have spent time on the platform. Today, in readiness for Trans Awareness Week (13-19 Nov) the team are proud to launch a new 101 section stating - ... "We see this new section as a vision for trans liberation and a contemporary view of the trans experience. We actively de-pathologise and strongly celebrate our genders, our lives and our futures. If you're planning some Trans Awareness Week initiatives, please do use (and acknowledge) this new 101 - and stay tuned, we've some beautiful artwork and posts in the works!" Amazing work everyone involved in this initiative! Find out more transhub.org.au/101
