16.01.2022 Lets get rid of our misconceptions this Liver Week.

16.01.2022 A new study has discovered that healthy liver tissue surrounding a tumor activates a defense mechanism that restrains tumor growth. Remarkably, the researchers found that hyperactivation of this mechanism above levels normally present in the liver, triggered the elimination of different types of liver tumors in mice. This discovery identifies a novel strategy to fight against liver cancer and could inspire new therapeutic approaches that mobilize normal cells to kill cancer cells.

09.01.2022 It's World Haemochromatosis Week! Haemochromatosis is detected by simple blood tests ordered by your GP. An Iron studies test may reveal elevated levels of serum ferritin and transferrin saturation which may be an indication of excess iron stored in the body. If a second test also shows higher than normal results, the GP will order the genetic test. The genetic test will reveal if the results were caused by the haemochromatosis gene mutations. Ferritin can be high for lots of reasons. Haemochromatosis diagnosis cant be confirmed until the gene test is completed. www.ha.org.au/diagnosis #WHW2020 #ironoutyourhealth #ironmatters Know Pathology Know Healthcare

07.01.2022 By studying a rare liver disease called Alagille syndrome, scientists discovered the mechanism behind a form of tissue regeneration that may someday reduce the need for organ transplants. Researchers report that when disease or injury causes a shortage in one type of liver cell, the organ can instruct another type of liver cell to change identities to provide replacement supplies. The findings one day may lead to a viable treatment for human disease. Read more below.
