25.01.2022 8th December is a significant day for us. Today marks 3 years since Tracie passed away and it marks 2 years since The Avocado Project launched! In that time, we have received so many amazing donations and been able to pass on a significant amount of care boxes to BeyondBlues The Way Back Service. We have along the way received many messages of support and thanks and today we are able to share another with you. It warms our hearts to receive this kind of feedback. Thanks... to each and every one of you for your support, encouragement, donations and your shares. You keep us doing what we do. Thank you In memory of Tracie Pirro - 27.8.67 - 8.12.16

23.01.2022 If you're in the Melbourne CBD tonight, you might notice the lighting of Flinders Street Station has turned a dark blue. This stunning gesture will commemorate ...the life of much-loved sporting identity Danny Frawley, and aims to raise awareness around the importance of speaking up about mental health issues. Danny leaves an extraordinary legacy as both an AFL identity and a passionate advocate for mental health. By talking openly about his depression, Danny made others feel comfortable about doing so. He reassured people that reaching out is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of strength. If you, or a loved one, is experiencing distress relating to the news coverage involving Danny Frawley's passing, support is available. Our mental health professionals are available 24/7 at the Beyond Blue Support Service on 1300 22 4636 or at beyondblue.org.au/getsupport for online chat (3pm-12am AEST) and email (responses within 24 hours). For immediate support call Lifeline on 13 11 14 and in an emergency, always call triple zero (000).

20.01.2022 As promised, for our new followers: The Way Back Support Service is the service which we have chosen to donate our suicide prevention care boxes to. Currently in Victoria referrals come from Barwon Health and Monash Health. Experienced staff decide who and when a box will be received. Please take the time to read about this amazing service, a BeyondBlue initiative. We believe in this service and we believe in what we do. If you do too, please share and invite everyone you know to our page. Together, we can make a difference

09.01.2022 Happy Friday everyone! Today we say another huge THANK YOU to the Gillham family for these amazing donations to The Avocado Project! Once again, your support means the world to us. After sending off our last lot of care boxes to The Way Back Service in Geelong, there are a few items we will be in need of for the next lot. 09.01.2022 *** A personal note *** Today I popped home on my lunch break from work and found this amazing donation from Sue OReilly & Hazel Lay - all the way from the UK!! Sue & Hazel are second cousins of Tracies (& mine of course!). With the package was a beautiful letter that forced me to shed a small tear. That note is personal and will remain so. ... Sue & Hazel - thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time, care, money and thought to send these beautiful items for our suicide prevention boxes. Theyre perfect When I was first encouraged to get involved at the inception of this suicide prevention project (unnamed at the time), I was unsure if I was willing, able or interested enough to be involved. With much encouragement, positivity, direction and at times, force by Elissa, I did it. You see, charitable causes were never really my thing - they were Tracies thing! My friends affectionately call me compassionate Mel... because... well... at times... I lack compassion lol. Im a hard one to crack some emotion out of sometimes. Two years on, we have been able to secure a $10,000 cash donation to purchase the boxes. We have received donations from far and wide and Ive had to recently purchase racking & storage containers to free up the enormous amount of space that the donations were taking up. Sometimes, it is hard to get across via a thank you post just how much each and every donation means to us. Each and every time something is received, it is opened with care. Every single note and card is read and kept. Every single item touches my heart and forces me to keep going with it. Today I send you all the most heartfelt THANK YOU, Melissa

07.01.2022 We have some sad news to bring you all. Unfortunately, Oxfam have decided to close their shops, including the online shop. This means we will be unable to purchase the beautiful tree of life boxes from them anymore. We were lucky enough to be able to purchase all remaining stock of 187 boxes at a discounted price.... (now, wheres that warehouse? ) Oxfam have been kind enough to offer some suggestions of how we can source these in the future and our preference of course, i...s to do everything we can to continue using these. The good news is Oxfam are selling off all remaining stock and have some amazing specials. I will post a link to their online shop in the comments below. See if you can grab yourself a bargain. Or see if you can pick up something to donate to The Avocado Project!

07.01.2022 This Wednesday is Go Home On Time Day - a time to remind ourselves that life shouldn't revolve around work alone! For ideas on how you can achieve a healthy work-life balance, check out the article below. Start planning for how you can get home on time this Wednesday, and most other days of the year.
