22.01.2022 How does Bowen Therapy work? As well as working on the Autonomic Nervous System (as described in my what is bowen therapy? post), bowen moves reset and balance the body through the nervous and endocrine systems and human vibration. Most moves are done at the origin, insertion or belly of the muscles, and around the joint proprioceptors, where receptors are located. When the receptors are stimulated, the nervous system receives the stimulus and changes the pain/muscle spasm ...loop. Each move is done on the superficial fascia and affects the relationship between fascia and the muscle, tendon or nerve being mobilised. Fascia (or connective tissue) plays a major role in muscle coordination, postural alignment, and overall structural and functional integrity, it connects everything together, so if fascia is tight, twisted or dehydrated mobility, posture and function will be negatively affected. 21.01.2022 "If nothing changes, nothing changes" is definitely one of my favourite quotes. Ive been really under the weather with a cold this week. My ego got the best of me yesterday and I was feeling like "poor me, why am I sick?"... Then I had an honest look at why and realised I havent been looking after myself for the past few months. Ive slipped out of all my good habits with isolation and the colder weather, Ive been hibernating, not exercising, not eating the best, not drink...ing enough water, not getting enough sleep or vitamin D and not looking after myself mentally. Time to make changes and get my pre-covid momentum back. Everyone and anyone! ~ Reiki is a super gentle healing modality, it can be performed hands off if needed, which makes it suitable for everyone, including babies, children, during pregnancy, post partum, elderly or frail people, and people with chronic or painful conditions. 19.01.2022 Its crazy times in the world at the moment, so much fear, hate and anger out there. Have you seen/heard whats happening in Melbourne Australia with the state housing towers? Its quite scary the measures being imposed on people. ~ Its so important for us to not stay focused on the negative stuff all of the time. Its ok to dip your toes into the pond of negativity, but then hop out of the water and shake it off. Stress is one of the leading causes of illness, whether that ...be emotional, mental or physical stress. Mine is Autumn - for the leaves I love this time of year (though its technically Winter now), the morning sun, the cool crisp evenings, the last leaves falling from the trees. 12.01.2022 So what is Reiki? Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive form of energy healing which promotes the body to relax and begin its own healing. Reiki can be practised hands-on or hands-off (I usually do hands-on, but would happily do hands-off if my client preferred). Reiki consists of a series of hand placements starting at the head and moving down the body to the feet, the client remains fully clothed. Clients have asked me how they will feel during reiki, but this is so individual...! Its not unusual for people to feel warmth, coldness, tingling, stomach activity, deep relaxation, visualisations, or sometimes nothing at all. Some people have big shifts or feel emotional releases. 04.01.2022 For many years, Reiki was discounted by science as there was no way to test the human energy field. Without proof of its existence, the idea of an invisible body of energy was considered nonsense. However, times have changed and science has gone from a conviction that it doesnt exist, to absolute certainty of its existence. This began to change in the 1960s and 70s, when a SQUID magnetometer, detected magnetic fields around the heart and around the head produced by brain a...ctivities. It has been discovered that all tissues and organs produce specific magnetic pulsations, which have come to be known as biomagnetic fields. So how does this relate to Reiki? In the early 1980s a series of important studies on therapeutic touch, using a SQUID magnetometer were conducted. It was discovered that a huge pulsating biomagnetic field emanated from the hands of a practitioner. The frequency of the pulsations is not steady, but "sweeps" up and down, from 0.3 to 30 Hz (cycles per second), with most of the activity in the range of 7-8 Hz. The pulsations from the hands are in the same frequency range as brain waves and studies of the frequencies necessary for healing indicate that they naturally sweep back and forth through the full range of therapeutic frequencies, thus being able to stimulate healing in any part of the body. In the 1990s it was found the "Qi emission" from the hands is so strong that they can be detected with a simple magnetometer consisting of two coils, of 80,000 turns of wire. Since then, a number of studies have extended these investigations. Medical researchers developing pulsating magnetic field therapies are finding that these same frequencies are effective for jump starting healing in a variety of soft and hard tissues. 02.01.2022 What is fascia? ~ Fascia is a layer of tissue that sits just underneath the skin and runs continuously from the top of our head to our big toes. It encapsulates our cells, muscle fibres, muscles, bones, nerves, blood vessels and organs. It is everywhere! Fascia is the bodys connective tissue, it hols the body together and plays a major role in muscle co-ordination, postural alignment and overall structural and functional integrity. ~ Fascia is often overlooked and only the ...muscle or joint addressed, but when our fascial system isnt functioning as it should it can manifest as tightness and pain, restricting our movement and making it painful to maintain good posture when we are sitting, standing, walking and running. Fascial restrictions can occur from sedentary lifestyle, prolonged sitting/seated job, poor posture, trauma, infection, inflammation and surgery. These restrictions can also have a negative affect on our organ function and impact our bodily systems, like digestion.
