10.01.2022 I love this! This is so important for our dancers to understand. Training in the arts gives us so many non-tangible gifts that are applicable to so many other areas of life down the track... Help your dancers enjoy the process of learning, of experiencing, of discovering and analysing... this willl give them so much more than just aiming to achieve a ‘trick’.... Especially in this time when the future of a career in the arts is in such jeopardy. There are so many other reasons to continue training; to maintain our mental health, to become more present in our bodies and become more interesting people...

08.01.2022 What is Relative Rest? Relative Rest is a way to protect the injured area whilst continuing to train the rest of your body. First, we usually need to rest the injured area to avoid any more damage. This may include avoiding any activity that causes pain, and protecting that area by using crutches, a boot, some taping, or simply wearing supportive running shoe sand not jumping in class. The second part of relative rest should include careful activation of the muscles around t...he area in a safe and effective way, to help keep the connection alive between your brain and the muscle active. This can make a dramatic difference to how quickly you can return to full capacity when you are allowed to use that area again and can prevent other associated injuries from developing. Finally, it is important to continue to challenge the healthy parts of your body so that they do not lose condition. Just because you have a stress fracture in your right foot does not mean that the left foot, hips, core and spinal control cannot be trained. Keeping up a carefully crafted program for the rest of your body can actually help you improve your technique during any time off. Head over to The Ballet Blog to find out more. https://www.theballetblog.com/portfolio/relative-rest/

04.01.2022 Essential Components of a Pre Pointe Assessment! Progressing onto pointe is one of the biggest rites of passage a young dancer faces, and it is often a very exciting time. However, it is also very challenging. The excitement of that shiny new pair of shoes is often quickly soured with the onset of pain and blisters, but it does not have to be this way. Given a slow and careful preparation, along with a detailed assessment of the dancer before pointe work is introduced, it c...an be one of the most amazing times in a young dancer’s life and opens up a whole new world of possibilities in dance. A thorough pre-pointe assessment is designed to reduce the risk of damage to the developing body.
