25.01.2022 SPECIAL CLASS THIS WEDNESDAY This Wednesday we will be blessed by the presence of Rosie White from Pilates by Rosie for a special Pilates session. 9.15AM WEDNESDAY @ THE BASE ... - Please bring your own mat! - There are so many amazing benefits to Pilates including core and stability. So come along and try something new and a class with Rosie is always the best fun! Note: This will be in place of the normal 9.30am Functional Training class. 24.01.2022 KIDS CLASSES INFORMATION This holidays The Base Health and Wellbeing are trialing KIDS CLASSES! Cost - $5 per child per class (TO BE PAID AT THE CLASS NOT VIA THE APP)... Location - Hunter Street Sporting Complex meeting at junior clubhouse Duration - 30 minutes per class CLASS TIMES - 20/09/20 to 02/10/20 4-7 years Monday, Wednesday and Friday @ 10.45am 8-12 years Monday, Wednesday and Friday @ 11.15am As per information above there will be 2 classes offered for different age groups and they WILL be required to attend the class for their age, no exceptions. Parents must be in attendance, however, are NOT able to participate. To book download the MINDBODY app and if you have multiple children please book multiple times (app allows this function). Please note payments will he made at the classes with eftpos and cash facilities available. We cannot wait to offer this new service and get the youth of Blackwater moving through the holidays

22.01.2022 MOVEMENT OF THE WEEK Feat. @zoeyhopes DEADLIFTS are one of the most complex foundation movements. It is a fantastic lift that builds power and strength which is also the basis for many other lifts e.g. Power cleans. ... People underestimate the complexity of the exercise and poor form can immediately or over time lead to injury. At The Base we pride ourselves on performing movements correctly and focus on technique before increasing the load or increasing difficulty to a movement. TARGET MUSCLES: Lower body - Glutes and Hamstrings TEACHING CUES: 1. Set your feet up directly under the bar at approximately shoulder width apart (various stance depending on person and abilities) 2. ‘Hinge’ at the hips whilst engaging the core and bend consecutively with the knees to reach for the bar keeping a neutral spine with a strong upper body posture 3. Hold the bar with a pronated grip and set yourself to drive through the heals with the bar close to the shins up to hip extension (not over extension) 4. Once extension is reached, control the bar and lower it to the ground and repeat movements 1-3 whilst holding the bar until reps are completed (sets & rep ranges will depend on your goal). Note: if you experience any pain in the back or other regions this could mean you are doing the movement incorrectly and we suggest seeing your health and fitness professional! WARM UP FOR THE MOVEMENT: Hinges - basically performing the deadlift movement without weight working on the ‘hinge’ movement performing an extension of the hips will help you to get ready for the exercise. 14.01.2022 WHO WOULD BE INTERESTED IN SOME HOLIDAY KIDS CLASSES? We are putting out an expression of interest to conduct some kids sessions at the Base. Here is a bit of info about the program: ... 2-3 classes per week 2 age groups 5-8 and 9-12 year olds To trial over the school holidays coming up Please comment below with your interest and details of how many children and ages. Ps. The kids will not be getting out of burpees either and here is one of our favourite little members getting active!
14.01.2022 MOVEMENT OF THE WEEK Feat. Luke Geiss! BURPEES, another complex movement that people love to avoid but little do people know that this movement has many benefits besides burning the lungs (and the soul) if it is performed correctly!... TARGET MUSCLES AND BENEFITS A lot. Assists with coordination, cardiovascular fitness, core strength/engagement, push motion (push ups etc), ability to control your own body weight, hip mobility and more... TEACHING CUES 1. Place hands (just outside shoulder width or push up position) with palms flat on the ground engaging jump legs out wider than shoulder width apart. 2. Control your entire body (in a plank type position) down to the floor until hips and chest touch and keep your toes in touch with the floor. 3. Drive through your feet and try and keep the width in the legs to jump your feet just outside shoulder width apart to land with feet on the floor with limited bend in the knee. 4. From this position drive up to elevate off the ground with hands behind your head and repeat... PROGRESSIONS There are ways that you can work your way up to a burpee and these are super important as these give you all the correct techniques to perform the final product! - Performing the burpee without chest to floor - Performing the burpee on an elevated surface such as bench - Slowing the burpee down to step in and out to eliminate the jumping movements. If you want to know more about these give us a message or talk to your own qualified fitness professional. WARM UP FOR THE MOVEMENT Chest to floor walkouts - from standing position walk your hands along the floor in a controlled state until chest and hips touch the floor and walk back up. Bear crawls - walking on all fours (opposite hand to leg), controlling hip movement. Hand Release push ups - controlled decline to the floor and as the chest and hips hit the floor release the arms and put them back onto the floor to drive back up ensuring the body is in a plank like position Thanks so much to Luke for helping out! 05.01.2022 WHO IS EXCITED THAT BOXING IS BACK? On most Friday and Saturdays we incorporate some boxing style fitness into our sessions. It is great fun and an amazing workout. ... Just so that we can keep nice things, just a reminder that COVID regulations are still in place and disinfecting of all equipment regularly is mandatory. Further to this individuals will be required to wear inners if using the Base equipment. It is not compulsory but recommended that you bring your own gloves if you have them at home. Let’s not get complacent and continue to keep things clean and safe for all.
