25.01.2022 Well, I have to keep myself amused somehow... #ducklyf #vanlyf

24.01.2022 He’s like an oil painting Sometimes it feels like he’s been stitched together by Disney with rainbows and unicorns

21.01.2022 Beautiful rainbow eggs available. Preference given to anyone who can pick up from the farm stand in Gardners Bay and would like a weekly supply. $7 a dozen. PM me if you want them

21.01.2022 Yesterday was a good day. At a time when I would usually be madly sowing and planting, I am finishing setting up my van in anticipation of heading off to NSW. The wait is getting difficult and a bit stressful now, as I watch case numbers bounce around and listen to state premiers bitch at each other. I’m wondering just quite how much longer I will be here, and how quickly things may turn around when an announcement is finally made. So I dallied at the tip shop a while and fo...und a new favourite mug (because I dropped my old one and broke it) and this intriguing little book. I also ticked a whole bunch of things off the big list and bought a camping fridge and inverter to hook up to my deep cycle battery for the big trip (and subsequent adventures). I’ve also found some lovely people to rent my house - yay! So now it’s time to stop procrastinating, crank the music and actually do some proper packing!

18.01.2022 My little heartbeats I cry approximately once an hour at the moment. Doesn’t help when the sun is shining over my beautiful little farm and a beautiful song is on the stereo... and my beautiful animals come and greet me at the gate

18.01.2022 So for those of you that may have missed the news.... This Basil Girl is off to the mainland at the end of September for a big life change. I bought a van to get myself, River and the cats safely accross the ocean (and through Victoria!!) and on to NSW. Today I finished my very basic but functional fit out for the journey and some subsequent adventures. This cost just over $200 in materials and 2 days of my time. There was a little bit of swearing and a lot of appalling maths calculations (or lack thereof). But she’s finished! To say I’m happy would be an understatement. I’m so darn impressed with myself Adventures await!!

17.01.2022 First night in the van. Slept in the driveway so the cats could come too Tess was a very brave cat and slept with River and I all night with the door closed. Kitty sauntered in this morning all like WTF mate, why are you sleeping where my breakfast usually is? I declare the van a success. #lyinginthevaninthesunwithcoffeewatchingtheducks

16.01.2022 We’ve all conferred... and decided we need a sun roof. Actually, preferably a glass ceiling. That’s doable right?!

15.01.2022 I’ve been diving deep into daily herbal practice. My morning cacao now features Maca, Ashwaganda, Chaga, Turkey Tail and Reishi. I’ve been out of Lions Mane for a while, and my nutritionist recommended the Deer Antler, so I’m adding these in to my daily drink. I’m so impressed with the philosophy and practice of @superfeast, not to mention the beautiful packaging and handwritten note I’ve also currently got a Turkey Tail tincture on the go from wild foraged fruit. The powder is super fluffy and completely distasteful and chunky in the cacao, so I’m having a bash at a double extraction

14.01.2022 Packing also means getting completely sidetracked.... For some reason I thought it’s a totally legitimate packing task to take out the big camera and extract some old photos from it. As well as take some new ones. This is a selection of shots from around the farm.

13.01.2022 Happy international mushroom day!

13.01.2022 Morning time is the perfect time to do a through sniff check of your dog. Don’t forget to add in a little lick too

13.01.2022 Well folks. It’s finally happening.... I’m off like a sprinting squirrel! I’m leaving for Dorrigo in NSW after a lengthy pandemic-related wait. I set sail on Monday night and I’m leaving the farm in the capable hands of Lachlan and Sophie who have started their own insta over at @gardners_pantry. Please go give them a follow, especially if you’re local and want the lowdown on what veg they will have available (and other goodies by the looks of it!) if you’re on facey then al...l you need to do is stick around here and the page will change it’s name as soon as one of us figures out how to do it There will no doubt be a few more tearful updates from me before I leave, and then this page will morph into something new

10.01.2022 My tenants bought me birthday cake!! @gardners_pantry made me this stunning cake, covered in popcorn (cos I like corn ) and hawthorn flowers. It was so lovely, thank you so much for baking for me @sophie__pope. I suspect that I didn’t convey my gratitude very well as I was up to my eyes in packing!! But I love it and it was very thoughtful. Thank you! Have you gone over to the @gardners_pantry page and given them a follow yet? They take over the farm in a few days

10.01.2022 Happy pupper comin’ atcha.

09.01.2022 Well this kinda sums things up - broken!! This burst pipe was the latest in a string of somewhat trying circumstances that have hit me over the last week or so. Firstly I left the water going when filling my header tank and flooded the garden then I went to transfer some water only to find that my transfer pump was broken . Nearly ran over a long-dead wallaby with the mower today too and had to remove due to the stench The dog got an eye infection AFTER his pre-travel ...visit to the vet, so has had two trips in two days And I’ve just had to replace my phone because even after a week of trying to restore it to fix its growing issues, it finally died on me. Ok I’m done now universe. I’m poor and a bit broken. Roll on Monday! Oh, and it’s my birthday - I made it to 41. Huzzah!

08.01.2022 Bumble had to go to duck jail for a few days for beating up Indy and being a general brute. This is his Shawshank moment #duckjail #mustbespring #hormones

07.01.2022 I see der is foods here for de chickens and de ducks, but where is my foods please animal tuckerbox lady? *ok, will settle for pats

06.01.2022 I’m so, so happy to be introducing you to @lazeretto (Lachlan) and @sophie__pope, who will be renting my house out as soon as the border opens to NSW I can’t tell you how excited I am to have found a chef/farmer and a pastry chef who are keen to keep the garden going and continue to supply you all with local organic vegetables this season. They are already measuring up the garden beds, and I’m happy to be collaborating with them while I am still here and able to help. ... As Lachlan said when he saw my ‘Farmers for Climate Action’ sign, I think every farmer needs to have one of these, and if you don’t, can you really call yourself a farmer? I think these guys are going to fit right in... We’ll keep you all posted on developments as my beautiful little farm evolves into it’s exciting new chapter

05.01.2022 This is approximately my 400th batch of coleslaw. All I’ve had left on the farm was cabbage and carrots, so it seemed apt (and delicious). But now I’ve run out of cabbages, and my carrots are starting to bolt... Please open the NSW border Gladys. I’m goddamn outta cabbages.

03.01.2022 Chilling’ by the fire with the soggy four-leggeds after an epic day of bed clearing with some friends. I wish I’d taken ‘before’ shots... but we yanked all the carrots out, handweeded, tilled and covered the beds ready for some new hands and energy soon! Also spoiled silly by two pastry chefs with their amazing delights @_francas_kitchen_ @sophie__pope

03.01.2022 The play dog and duck

01.01.2022 What does the wolf say? Arrrrrooooooooooo.
