19.01.2022 We love a (not)parkrun! Have you logged yours yet this week?
19.01.2022 You will likely have seen through other channels that all parkrun events in Australia and New Zealand have been suspended with immediate effect due to the ongoing COVID-19 (Coronavirus) situation. At this stage we have cancelled events up to the end of March. Please follow our communications channels for ongoing updates. parkruns global position is published and will be updated at this link https://www.parkrun.com/news/2020/03/12/covid-19/ Fortunately connection and exercise isnt cancelled. Our Beaches parkrun family, and parkrun community in general, is strong in connection, and we know that the individual links you have made in your community can be sustained through this interruption to our schedules. We look forward to seeing you back as a group in the future and hearing about what your did in your parkrun gap experience.
17.01.2022 We have a little bit longer before we can #getourfeetwet as a group again. We would love to know what you have been up to in your #nonparkrun weeks. Have you been keeping a Saturday morning date with a run or walk? Has the Great big parkrun Quiz got you pushing for a trivia PB? Let us know below!
17.01.2022 Please minimise all human contact today. See you shortly!

14.01.2022 While we arent running parkrun, we can get to know our Beaches people a bit better! We would love to share profiles of our parkrunners. First up is Bridget Tidey, who has been a long time part of The Beaches team. Name: Bridget Tidey... When did you first start parkrun? I first started in 2013 at my previous home parkrun in Launceston. I signed up to parkrun when I lived in Brisbane but never attended because of the 7AM start time, way too early for me. Although now I have 2 kids under 2 so 7AM is a sleep in! Why did you first start parkrun? For fitness plus it was a great way to catchup with friends and go for breaky after! How many parkruns have you participated in? 119 parkruns and 52 volunteers Your favourite volunteer role? Run Director Have you parkrun touristed? And if so what is your favourite course? I have been a parkrun tourist in NSW, Tasmania, Queensland, ACT and Scotland. My favourite was Lake Burley Griffin, it poured with rain the whole run, we had to wring out our clothes before jumping back in the car, very memorable! One thing that keeps you coming week after week? The post-parkrun coffee chat with such a diverse range of people and the scenery isnt too bad either What makes The Beaches special for you? Without a doubt the wonderful Beaches community! Thanks Bridget, we think you are awesome too We would love to profile our regular parkrunners so please send us your answers to the questions Bridget answered and a pic and we would love to share it on our page here and our insta!

12.01.2022 Looking for a marshal! We share the beach with other great community organisations. The Global Surf Tag Classic is on at Dixon this weekend and we will need at least an extra marshal to help us on Saturday. Please let us know if you can help.
11.01.2022 Did you know parkrun now has a virtual Volunteer Hub that anyone can access for information about the volunteer roles, how to start a parkrun, or basically most things you might want to know! For anything else, ask your core volunteer team at your local event! https://volunteer.parkrun.com
11.01.2022 Feeling so happy for our New Zealand parkrun family We also know that we will benefit from their feedback of what it is like to re-open events after the closure so we thank them for everything we will learn that will make our own experience of returning that much smoother. We have been doing great and are getting closer! Lets keep being safe and smart as a community and we can get there too - only forward! Update from parkrun Global posted below ...Continue reading

10.01.2022 Another of our @thebeachesparkrun #parkrungenerations of women. Jane is one of our regular core volunteers, runs like a power house on the sand (soft stuff included!!), and she can be counted on for a surf report after the run. Her daughters run and volunteer with her, and we love having them as part of our Beachie community #loveparkrun #parkrun #getyourfeetwet @parkrunau #mynewcastle #iwd2020 #IWDparkrun #seeher #thisgirlcan
10.01.2022 Happy days to hear Qld will be the next state to have parkrun return on Nov 28! Until we get approval to restart in NSW we can still (not)parkrun every day of the week! Where have you (not)parkrun this week? Plans for the weekend? #loveparkrun
10.01.2022 In 2004 a bloke named Paul couldnt go for his usual weekend run with his friends. On that day parkrun was born. What will you do on your #parkrungapexperience? Share it with us and tag @The Beaches parkrun so we can keep in the loop with your solo adventures until we can get back together as a parkrun group! #loveparkrun
10.01.2022 The runaway muffin: a parkrun story of female friendship and how it took 7 women to transport a piece of cake. Jane had a milestone. Jane is a one of our RDs who runs with her family at Beaches. Trish and Jane are mates, so Trish got Jane a muffin. Sadly the muffin handover did not occur at parkrun - tragedy!!! What can be done?! Fear not, because we are a team and mates dont let mates have a cake crisis. Fortunately there was a meetup of other Beaches friends that afternoo...n, the muffin was safely delivered and enjoyed. This story of bakery joy and fun was brought to you by the fact that these women were brought together through parkrun. Its not just 5k on a Saturday morning, the bonds formed can grow beyond that, and mean much more. Bring your female friends and family to join us this Saturday for International Womens Day parkrun, you would be most welcome to join us. #IWDparkrun #getyourfeetwet No muffins were harmed in the making of this post (much to the dismay of the poster, as those who know her know that she cant stand muffins and would have much preferred it if Jane ate a cupcake but hey... )
09.01.2022 It seems like regular parts of our weeks are disappearing off our schedules daily at the moment! They will be back, and until then, staying connected is important for us all. Heres a few thoughts for options (and you can always join the unofficial virtual social distancing parkrun facebook group)!! https://www.facebook.com/groups/245794499923388/?ref=share
08.01.2022 A very important message from parkrun CEO Nick Pearson (and puppy Apollo!): Its really important that parkrunners dont gather in large groups for unofficial parkruns. Please do act responsibly. We are lucky to have so many great places in Newy to run. What will you do on your #parkrungapexperience? Share it with us and tag @The Beaches parkrun so we can keep in the loop with your solo adventures until we can get back together as a parkrun group!... #loveparkrun
