25.01.2022 Have you ever woundered if you are actually making money or is it costing you to employ your staff? I know, as this was one of the traps I feel into without realising it. I had a small salon, just myself and one other full time therapist at the time. We were busy, well most of the time anyway. So I decided that it would be a good idea to employ another therapist so we could potentially treat more clients. ... The reality was that we were not generating enough extra revenue to justify the extra salary. Ok we did have more money in the till but were we making more profit? It all became clear when I sat down after a few months and looked at the figures Yes there was more money in but was it enough? You see the thing is a staff member needs to be generating 3 times their salary to break even. Less than that and its costing you money to employ them. How do we get to this figure. Its made up from having to pay the extra over heads, ie their salary, holiday pay, sick pay, GST, products used etc. If you have staff its a good idea to know these figures before celebrating the extra cash in the till. Its essential information when setting targets and performance reviews. The new therapist was bringing in enough to cover her wage but our revenue had not increased enough, in fact she was costing money. Once I knew this, we worked to increase her client base to ensure she was adding to the salon profits. #knowyournumbers #staff #makingaprofit

12.01.2022 Taken from a group Im in Hi everyone, I know that generally naming and shaming is not allowed here, but I feel that my experience needs to be shared.... Last Saturday I went to a local hardware store and bought a stack of tools and materials because Im building a new shed in my backyard. But Ive had no end of trouble with the stuff Ive bought, and after 5 days all I have is a colossal mess and I feel like Ive been totally ripped off. I called the hardware store this morning and they just wouldnt listen to my concerns, so I want to get your thoughts and see if I have a case to take it further with them. Here are my problems: - To start with, when I tried to lay the foundation, the cement was way too runny and kept flowing to one side. - The mitre-saw I bought is clearly faulty. I know this because several times, I tried to put a newly-cut piece of timber in place and it was the wrong size! - The timber itself is completely useless. The wind kept knocking the posts over as soon as I put them in the ground. - My new hammer is a total piece of junk. The second it landed on my thumb I knew something was wrong with it. - After the hammer incident, I moved onto the drill but that was just as bad. The holes were way too big for the screws. So after I called the store and they wouldnt help me, I decided to go in and see them - but all the guy did was ask me a bunch of stupid questions!! I couldnt believe it. He was asking stuff like: Have you built something like this before? (No, but it cant be that hard.) Did you follow any plans or instructions? (No, why does that matter? Ill work it out as I go.) Did you get someone experienced to help you? (Listen. My 19yo nephew built a shed last month. Ive been around much longer than him. I AM experienced. Not at building sheds specifically, but Ive done lots of other stuff.) Do you know we have a shed installation service? (Yeah, but I have to pay for that right? No thanks.) And the questions just kept coming! Did you make sure the ground was level? Did you measure before cutting? Did you use the right drill bit? I was really mad by this point, because I could tell he was just deflecting from the REAL issue: THE STUFF THEY SOLD ME DOESNT WORK! I dont know what Im gonna do, but I do know one thing - Ill be telling everyone I know to avoid that place. And I tell you what, thats the LAST TIME I try to build a shed! Maybe it works for other people, but theyre probably just lucky. Or live in a place thats less windy. Or use a different brand of tools. It doesnt matter, because I GIVE UP. I guess sheds just dont work for me. Anyway, I better run I just started a business and Im doing all the marketing myself! I dont know much about marketing and Im quite short on time, but Ill work it out. How hard can it be? Wish me luck!
