24.01.2022 This year marks 8 years since the Queensland Apology for Forced Adoption Policies and Practices. So many people have been affected by the far-reaching effects of adoption, and we stand with all those affected to mark eight years of acknowledgement and apology for the many injustices carried out with the support of those in power. Join our Post Adoption Support Queensland team for the annual QLD Apology for Forced Adoption Policies and Practices Event on Friday 27th November at 11am. 24.01.2022 'Today is International Day of People With Disability! I’m an autistic person. I’m late diagnosed. I’m a parent of an autistic son. I’m a #people leader. I’m a whole person. And I wouldn’t trade who I am for anything. Even on a day when autistic shutdown looms large. I’m one story. One individual. I’m not a category or a label or a diagnosis. My story is different to the person next to me. My strengths are different to the person next to me. Which means you don’t know me beca...use you’ve met another autistic person. The way I don’t know you. Or your story. So on #idpwd, my hope is we get curious. We stay open. We start a conversation. And we hear each other’s stories. Because there’s a hell of a lot of ability in #disability. A willingness to hear and an openness to what’s possible is where the seed of #inclusionanddiversity thrives.' - Kylie White, Executive Director, The Benevolent Society

17.01.2022 Carers provide 2.2 billion hours of care each year, with a value of almost $1.5 billion per week. Take a couple of minutes to tell us why you care about unpaid carers and help build a carer-friendly Australia. http://www.carersweek.com.au/ #WhyWeCare #Carers2020

13.01.2022 It's important, as a carer, to take time for yourself and re-charge. As a part of the Carer Gateway, we are offering Triple R Essentials workshops to offer practical tools and strategies to carers to help you fill up your own cup. A huge part of our wellbeing is ensuring we reconnect. Here are some simple ideas to help you reconnect: create a sleep schedule for at least 8 hours, every night take a walk... drink more water create a journal to help get the thoughts out of your head take time (ideally an hour every day) to do something that you enjoy, like reading, gardening or even taking a nap It's also important to participate in activities that will boost your confidence and bring fulfilment. Here are some suggestions: cook yourself a meal that you will really enjoy write a list of 'annoying' tasks that have been weighing on you and try to tick off one item per day until you've completed all the items on your list detox your environment by setting healthy boundaries and saying no to those people who drain your energy declutter your home write a list of 5 things you're grateful for and why. Expressing gratitude can increase dopamine and help deflect negative thoughts. To learn more or to register, head to https://bit.ly/2J7IlGV

09.01.2022 FREE WEBINAR! In the COVID-19 pandemic, some deep-seated ageist attitudes toward older people have been exposed. We’ve seen the familiar framing of older people as a burden and questions emerge about the value of older lives. We’ve seen older people not having a voice in decision making, reinforcing marginalisation and entrenched stereotypes. We’ve seen the contributions of older people disregarded and attempts to drive a wedge between generations.... Now is our historic chance to challenge and dismantle ageism and the assumptions on which it is based. Join Ashton Applewhite and Jane Caro in conversation on building a world without ageism. Head to https://bit.ly/32fBx0v to learn more.
