24.01.2022 Lost your job cos of COVID? It’s no wonder you might be feeling down! If unemployment has you on struggle street, here are some emotional coping strategies: V...olunteering can give you a renewed sense of purpose, build connections and networks and looks good on your resume. Further education can expand your skillset and make you more employable. Even if money is tight, there are lots of ways to get educated in an affordable way. If you are receiving financial government support, you may be eligible for subsidised education. Start your own business or try something new. Some people find that being unemployed gave them an opportunity to do something different. You might find creative ways of making money, or try pursuing a passion you didn’t have time to follow before. Seek support from trusted sources, like family, friends or Kids Helpline. Find ‘dopamine hit’ rewards that don’t cost money and are an adaptive coping strategy. For example, start a new exercise regime or hobby. Be aware of your beliefs. Research has shown that people who believe they can improve their financial situation are more likely to overcome financial hurdles than those who feel powerless! Spend energy and time on the things that make life valuable. The good news is most of these things are free! This can include spending quality time with people you care about, having fun, laughter, a great conversation, etc. These things also help you to have a mental break from stress, which is important for your self-care.

The old maternity ward at Gosford Hospital will be renovated with funds raised by Lions Club of Wyoming-East Gosford Centennial Inc. and money from the NSW Government. Tenders are going out shortly, with the 10-bed facility expected to be operational by March next year. Elsie’s Retreat Committee’s Oana McBride and Margaret Pearce

17.01.2022 It is with great sadness that we must inform you of the passing of Robert ‘Bob ‘ Kerslake. Bob and his family are well known long term residents of Berkeley Val...e Bob was a Member of the Berkeley Vale Bush Fire Brigade for many years and held the rank of Deputy Captain. Bob has been a life Member of the Brigade for over 55 years . Only a few of the current Members were lucky enough to serve with Bob and get to know him . He became a wonderful role model for those who joined the Brigade and he assisted anyone who needed a hand. Back then the Brigade was very basic as far as resources were concerned but with the likes of Bob and the other Members of the Brigade massive fires would be tackled without all of the high tech equipment of today. Luckily there was Bob and others who would pass on their knowledge and skills to anyone who was keen to listen. Bob was the definition of the term ‘Natures Gentleman ‘ and the world will be a sadder place without him. See more

09.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS... COVID-19 restrictions for Community Sport, Schools and Weddings are being updated! From this weekend onwards, two adults per child are allowe...d to attend Community Sport matches. But please remember to practice social distancing at all times! From the beginning of Term 4, school sport, inter-school sport and zone competitions will return to operating in the normal pre-COVID way! Parents will be allowed to visit schools in the normal pre-COVID way for activities like reading groups and garden lessons. Year 6 Formals and Graduations are permitted. Playing wind instruments, singing and chanting activities in a School setting are permitted but with strict conditions. School Assemblies and Presentation Days will be allowed to proceed in Term 4. Orientation Days for Year 7 and Kindergarten classes will be allowed to take place in Term 4. Churches can now have choirs or groups of up to 5 people singing together. This decision has been made because activities like singing can cause COVID-19 to spread more easily. Weddings are permitted to have 150 guests if they are held at a place of worship... and up to 20 people will now be allowed to dance. This decision has been made because events like weddings still have the potential to be COVID-19 super spreaders. With the School Holidays beginning shortly, please remember to GET TESTED if you have even the mildest symptoms like a scratchy throat, cough, runny nose or fever.
