24.01.2022 Encounter Marine Park is the Park of the month!

23.01.2022 Dolphins blatantly breaking social distancing guidelines!

23.01.2022 Hi I’m Naomi. I've worked on the Duck for 1.5 years. Gaining the expertise and knowledge of our unique coastline, the animal species and being a deckhand has been an incredible experience. My outdoor hobbies include going to the beach, walking, surfing and swimming. The best part about the job is being told how much passengers enjoyed the tours and watching their faces when encountering animals. I have just finished a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Biology and Aquacul...ture. It's extremely hard to pick just one favourite moment but watching the different behaviours of our resident pod of dolphins has got to be it. I absolutely love observing them and how they interact with each other and how they interact with the boat. I have MANY questions about them but that's the beauty of being a scientist.

23.01.2022 Aussie surfers found themselves having a "whale" of a time when they noticed they were riding the waves alongside a pair of minke whales . Seaworld's head o...f marine science Wayne Phillips was "amazed" by the footage. "Although it's not rare for minkes to be feeding on bait balls of small fish like that, to surf into that bail ball is just amazing," Mr Phillips said. The whales measured about 26ft long (8 metres) and are estimated to weigh up to 10 tonnes (10,000 kgs)! ig/the.drone.dc (Daniel Cook) See more

19.01.2022 I had a fantastic time on THE BIG DUCK BOAT TOURS - Southern Ocean Adventure tour. Just a few short videos of the Caspian Turns on Wright Island, playful Longno...sed Fur Seals off West Island and a large pod of Common Dolphins entertained us with their speed and bow riding skills. Thanks SS Dan and Naomi for a fantastic adventure ... pictures to follow See more

16.01.2022 Over on our Instagram we have been doing staff profiles, introducing the crew you will see on the boat. This is one of the friendly faces Sophie Rawson. We will be posting more of the crew for you to get to know them a little better for your next tour! G’day I’m Sophie. I’ve been working on The Big Duck for just over a year and have enjoyed every second of it! I absolutely love watching the critically endangered Australian Sea Lions swim with each other at Seal Island. I enj...oy surfing, photography and walking my dog when I’m not on the boat. I’ve completed a Bachelor degree of Environmental Science. My favourite part about the job is watching people’s faces light up when they see certain marine animals for the first time! Don’t be surprised when I bounce around with joy when the dolphins approach the boat, it happens every single time... See more

14.01.2022 Who loves Sealions!! Being one of the rarest Sealions species in the world, seeing them on tour is always an exciting day. On this tour, we were lucky enough to see 5 males. Incredible photos captured by our crew member Sophie Rawson... #sealions #marinelife #thebigduckboattours #SEESA #ecotours #fleurieucoast #traveling #marinebiology

13.01.2022 Hi my name is Dan I have been in the marine tourism industry for 20 years. I studied nature based tourism and have worked in summer camps, on super yachts and tourism vessels in the USA, Canada, Cairns, Sydney and South Australia. I have had some amazing experiences working on The Big Duck including seeing a baby dolphin being born, Australian sea lions coming up to the side of the boat and even watching a dolphin and seal have a tug o war with a huge squid. I love to spend time on my farm with my family as well as going on surf trips with my mates.

10.01.2022 Amazingly passengers onboard ‘The Big Duck’ got to see a Humpback breaching off the Waitpinga Cliffs today!!! (Image courtesy of National Geographic, not a pic off the boat today )

09.01.2022 G’day everyone, I’m Maddie Turley I have grown up along the south coast and spent most of my time in, on and around the sea. I’ve been with the business for just over 2 years working on the Duck and our Coorong boats. One of my favourite parts of the tour is sharing my local knowledge and the animals with tourists from all over the world. On The Big Duck, you cannot beat seeing dolphins, they are such a highlight for the passengers and myself who sees them all the time, it ne...ver gets old. I love working on the ocean as you never know what you’ll see from whales, sharks, to sunfish and even the occasional turtle. I believe to have good conservation you need to have good education and I love providing that for passengers when on board our tours. I am currently studying Marine Biology and Palaeontology at Flinders uni and hope to soon obtain my Coxswain skipper licence. I love being on the boats but when I’m not at work you’ll find me snorkelling, scuba diving, surfing or watching whales. See more

07.01.2022 Bottlenose Dolphin pod checking out the boat in Encounter Bay

07.01.2022 With the Southern Ocean being a bit rough for tours today! Our skippers weren’t idle but out planting 700x native trees.... We offset the carbon produced by The Big Duck with yearly plantings.

05.01.2022 G’day I’m Rupert. I’m one of the skippers on the Big Duck and on our other Coorong Cruises. My favourite bit about working with the business is having the Southen Ocean as my office and seeing something new on the tours nearly every day. I love being out in the natural environment on board our boats. I have spent roughly 15 years in the maritime industry, from sailing for leisure and working in the yachting industry in the Mediterranean. I’ve sailed from Perth to Kusadasi, Turkey on a three-month endeavor and Darwin to Perth in 2003/4. In this time, I gained Master 5, MED 3, Yacht Master offshore and GMDSS. I enjoy listening to a good playlist, eating Thai food and watching Patrick Swayze's best movies (Ghost and Dirty Dancing).

01.01.2022 The passengers on Wednesday’s Seal Island tour watching some of the Dolphins that came up to check us out on the boat!

01.01.2022 On Tuesday, 2 September the Stage 2 Tourism class journeyed to Victor Harbor for the annual overnight camp to evaluated the importance of the area to the South ...Australian Tourism industry. To do this students visited the South Australian Whale Centre, Granite Island, Victor Harbor Holiday, Caravan & Cabin Park and participated in a The Big Duck Boat Tours which left them wet, but with smiles on thier faces! Due to restrictions, this camp looked a little different to what was initially planned, however, the students handled this admirably. #cornerstonecollege #mtbarker #adelaidehills #education #tourism #studytourism #victorharbor #southaustralia #graniteisland

01.01.2022 Say g’day to our youngest skipper, Lachie. Hey, I’m Lachie! I am a skipper on the Big Duck and started working for the business after I finished high school and have been here for 4 years. I have been around boats since a young age and started sailing when I was young and continued with it through my high school years. Before working here, I had previous experience building wooden boat which sparked this interest to work in the boating industry. You’ll also see me on our other boats, the Spirit of the Coorong and Cruise the Coorong. My favourite marine animals are the sharks. My hobbies include surfing, snacking, travelling and outdoor fitness activities.
