25.01.2022 The third point is neglected a lot! It is the proprioception training... ...The better the horses proprioception system works, the stronger they will be in the ring and the less injuries you will get from certain turns, a bad landing, a slip or other unexpected situations that can occur.

14.01.2022 Thursday Therapist Feature: Dr Jill Elsbury Originally from Sweden, Jill moved to Australia in 2008 and graduated from Murdoch University in 2012 with a Bachelo...r of Veterinary Science in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BSc BVMS). Prior to becoming a veterinarian, Jill was riding and competing at a high-level in show jumping both in Sweden and Germany. Her passion for the equestrian sport has carried over into her career as a veterinarian where she has worked in both Equine as well as Mixed Animal Practice. She has carried out duties as a FEI Treating Veterinarian and also been involved as a Medication Testing Veterinarian at various equestrian events. Jill is still a keen horse rider and regularly competes at show jumping events in WA. After completing her Graduate Diploma in Animal Biomechanical Medicine (ABM) Jill founded The Biomechanic Vet with the aim of integrating ABM with more traditional veterinary care to achieve a comprehensive approach to animal health and function, a model that she has seen applied in Europe for many years. 12.01.2022 Get creative with poles! Heres an examples of a great exercise for a base narrow horse to encourage pectoral muscle activation and strengthening as well as improving proprioception.

10.01.2022 Love what you do, and remember to share your passion and knowledge. Friday I had the privilege to give a lecture to the veterinary students at Murdoch University about equine biomechanics and lameness. This was followed by a full day’s workshop Saturday, given alongside some fabulous farriers. Was great to see the enthusiasm from the next generations veterinarians.

10.01.2022 Many of you ask what does the pads do? Somewhat simplistically, I believe they allow the horse to change its posture to where they are more comfortable, allowing the body to release tension. Out of curiosity we performed a set of routine feet x-rays with the horse standing on wooden x-ray blocks and then on wooden x-ray blocks plus Sure Foot Pads and the results were too interesting not to share. Below is a comparison of a right fore lateral view standing on a wooden block... only (left image) and then standing on a wooden block plus a pad (right image). Interestingly it appears that the pad allowed the horse to temporarily improve its slightly broken back hoof pastern angle (HPA). Similar observations were noted in all four feet. Please note that this was only one horse and the study was only performed out to my own curiosity. SURE FOOT Equine Sure Foot Pads Australasia

10.01.2022 We are excited to announce that we are now able to incorporate the Sure Foot Pads into our treatments and rehabilitation programs. Want to learn more? Check out Sure Foot Pads Australasia
