12.01.2022 The mobile phone is often one of the first items to be thrown, broken or stolen during domestic violence, leaving the victim cut off from the outside world, wit...h no way to call emergency services or helplines for assistance. DV Safe Phone aims to get unused mobile phones out of people’s ‘bottom drawers’ and into the hands of victims of domestic violence. The campaign is aimed at collecting working phones, testing the phones for functionality, ensuring that all user data has been erased and redistributing working mobile phones to victims of domestic violence, through registered not-for-profit charity Red Rose Foundation, who have existing relationships with domestic violence agencies, safe houses, crisis centres and volunteers Australia-wide. You can donate your old mobile phone at any Jeep dealer Australia wide. To find out more, visit: https://www.dvsafephone.com.au

12.01.2022 Dear men....take the photo. It doesn't matter what she looks like, or if she acts annoyed, take the photo. You may not think about it often, or at all honestly.... But how many photos does she capture of you, of your family and of your life you've built. But when she is gone, those photos won't show your children the women who was behind the camera. Take the photo. Messy hair, no make up or a dirty old t-shirt won't matter to your children when she is gone someday. What will matter is that you loved what you saw enough to take a photo, to document it, to preserve that moment in time of the woman you love. No woman wants to look back at a lifetime of selfies. Do what she does for you every day, and snap a few moments in time. Be proud. Take photos of her. Before kids and after. Just take the photo. -Kaylin Maree Schimpf

12.01.2022 This is INCREDIBLE! We did it - Australia & NZ will soon have a mandatory, visible & effective health warning on alcohol products! It is amazing to see what we can achieve together. The actions each of you took made all the difference. THANK YOU!

06.01.2022 A SURPRISE TWIN WATERBIRTH A completely missed twin pregnancy. Ultrasound did not pick up the other fetus, they only ever heard just one heartbeat and... she measured right on track for carrying only 1 baby. She birthed her first baby in the water and shortly after felt another strong contraction and another ring of fire. As to which she yelled out What the fuck?! The midwife said Oh, it’s probably the placenta coming. Another midwife said It’s a water bag, I’ve never seen that before. The whole room was in utter shock to see another baby come earthside and born encaul. The likelihood of another baby hidding in the womb is extremely minuscule, but it happened. Born at 38 weeks and 4 days, both babies weighed 6lbs 11oz, and both measured 20 inches. 05.01.2022 "Fucking Tired Lock Down Mummy" is a parody of a famous children's book, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle. Carles work is one of my daughters favouri...te book, and we read it countless times. One day, while brushing my teeth after another long, quarantine day I thought that I can relate to the caterpillar on the cover, as I'm now a very hungry mommy all the time. That was the first idea off the book. Finishing it took me little over one month. Considering that it was during lockdown and with rampaging 4 year old around my neck, it was quite a miracle. update: please look for the edited version on my fanpage . Yes, grammar and spelling. 04.01.2022 Super important.

04.01.2022 Hey IQSers, . If you’re avoiding alcohol this month in support of your health - and maybe also to raise funds for cancer prevention via the official #dryjuly in...itiative, I (Chef Danielle Shine ) wholeheartedly encourage you to replace all alcoholic beverages with water, herbal teas + other health-supportive brews instead of sugar-sweetened drinks . Research recently published by the American Heart Association found that compared to people who rarely or never drink sugar-sweetened drinks: . Drinking just one (or more) sugar-sweetened fruit drink daily is associated with a 42% higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease later in life. . Drinking one or more soft drinks daily is associated with a 23% higher risk of cardiovascular disease overall. . Essentially, too much sugar in your body raises glucose levels + insulin concentrations in the blood. This has been shown to promote increased hunger that, over time, can cause weight gain that leads to obesity. Obesity is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease + MANY other non-communicable chronic diseases. . As a public health nutritionist, this is a definite increasing trend I’m seeing in Australia & oversees, largely driven by the constant marketing of crappy fake foods & drinks via TV, social media & celebrities making a FORTUNE to hold a can of *insert sugar-filled drink here*. . If you’re already ‘on it’ & don’t touch sugar-sweetened stuff, good for you! . If you’re still a sugar-lover, here’s something to considertoo much sugar in your blood can promote oxidative stress + inflammationit can also increase insulin resistance, unhealthy cholesterol levels + heighten your risk of type 2 diabetes. . All all of these conditions are strongly associated with ‘atherosclerosis’ - the slow narrowing of your arteries underlying most cardiovascular diseases, including the ones that cause heart attack/s & death . On that joyful note, stay healthy, learn to love water & I’ll see you next week! . Danielle x . 03.01.2022 Home birthing in the ACT will be available to more women after a trial was deemed a success. All 42 women who took part in the ACT Government trial successfull...y gave birth at home, with all reporting they felt empowered by the experience. Of those who participated, 90% experienced no complications during labour one baby was an undiagnosed breech and ended up in neonatal intensive care. Four women were transferred to hospital post-partum. It's now been recommended that the service be expanded to women who live further away from the Canberra Hospital. Giving birth is an exciting and highly personal time for women and families. The success of the homebirth trial provides an alternative for women who want to give birth in a familiar place with a midwife they know and trust," Minister for Health Rachel Stephen-Smith said.
