24.01.2022 Welcome to all my lovely new followers this week! Im currently on maternity leave having had my third little babe 9 weeks ago (pictured above!). Ive been teaching the @hypnobirthingaustralia program for 3 years now and love it! Ill be back teaching classes later in the year (dates on my website) but there is always the online program @hypnobubs . Anywho, heres a few fun facts about me . ... I grew up in the Pilbara and worked in the mining industry my whole career before having my first baby. We moved to Perth 5 years ago - I still feel new though. I have never tried coffee or tea I love scary movies! Im a big movie buff My husband and I have been together since we were 16. I climbed the Sydney harbour bridge with Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake (back when they were a couple). Im a night owl. I love staying up late. Doesnt bode well with little kids though I dont have a tailbone. When I was in labour with my first baby, a tumour was detected in my pelvis and the only way to get it out was to remove my coccyx My mum was the same age I am now when I started dating my husband. That makes me feel olllld I suck at small talk! I wish I was good at it but Im not. I love Coke Zero Ive never had a McDonalds meat burger I hate flying!! Despite this, I have done a lot of travel. My fave holidays destinations were Scotland and Alaska I often recite random movie quotes (in context). The only one who understands most of them is my sister @ktkatesmithers . . @belle_verdiglione .
24.01.2022 Ive been super quiet on here while were still in our new baby love bubble. Im soaking up all the newborn-ness; the constant cuddles, the hours breastfeeding on the couch, the many overnight wakings, the first smiles, the outgrowing clothes (already ). Im breathing her in and trying to remember every single moment of this special time with our last baby. Her big brother and sister love her soooo much! . . @belle_verdiglione captured our life these past few weeks perfectly
24.01.2022 Weighing baby. Private Midwife style. It is the BEST never having to leave home for any appointments. I have the best chats about birth with my lovely Midwife. Can she visit me forever?? Midwives Perth
23.01.2022 When you change your perception of pain, labour is so much easier . . Im almost finished my birth story but one thing I talk about is how I dont remember my labour to be painful. Intense? Yes! But I wasnt hurting. ... . . Ive laboured three times now and my most recent birth was my first true hypnobirth. I just wish I had have known about Hypnobirthing when I had my first baby! Never underestimate the power of your mind . . Who else has had a pain free labour? See more
23.01.2022 Love peanut balls! I have these for loan free of charge to all my clients if youre birthing at a hospital that doesnt supply them
22.01.2022 At least your baby is alive is the most bullshit phrase ever uttered. At least your baby is alive suggests that a baby and woman who are alive represent the... top rung of the ladder when it comes to birth outcomes. Ive got news for you, its the BOTTOM one! A live woman and baby is the minimum expectation of maternity care, the bottom rung! Not the top rung! The ultimate expectation of maternity care is that the woman and her family are completely blissed out and satisfied with their birth experience, they are blown away with joy and elation at what they just did and they feel autonomous and respected. A joyful birth is the standard, a live woman and baby is simply and expectation. #birthtraumaawarenessweek #birthtrauma #transformativebirthwork See more
22.01.2022 Think close to term is near enough? A babys brain at 35 weeks only weighs two-thirds of what it will weigh at 40 weeks. New research has shown a trend towards ...PLANNED births occurring earlier than 40 weeks is associated with short, medium and long-term risks for the baby. 22.01.2022 Scrolling through my phone and found these pics of my little girl and my 38 week belly. She was talking to her little sister then gave her a hug
21.01.2022 How gorgeous is my lovely client @_kristyrebecca Kristy did our online program @hypnobubs with a personalised 90 minute one on one session with me. We had so much fun chatting all things birth that our session went for over two hours! Im so excited for her birth! . . @raisingus.photography
21.01.2022 So chuffed to have received a Shining Star award at the annual @hypnobirthingaustralia conference last month. The kids were so excited for me when it arrived today (they’ve even asked to take turns having it in their rooms). Thank you @hypnobirthingaustralia best job ever!
20.01.2022 Ive already forgotten how little you were . . @misskyreeloves
18.01.2022 How beautiful! 30 week triplets . . @raph
17.01.2022 The gorgeous Jodie Turner-Smith @jodiesmith had her little girl at home in April. In the current @britishvogue she said she opted for a home birth due to the negative birth outcomes that often affect black women in America (pregnancy related death is three times higher for black women). 16.01.2022 I love placentas! I find them so fascinating. I was so excited when I received this beauty today. This client birthed her identical twins this week and remembered me asking for a photo when we did her @hypnobirthingaustralia classes
16.01.2022 If you didnt leave your birth education classes feeling like this, well, youre missing out. . . You can book your place in my @hypnobirthingaustralia classes once I return from maternity leave later in the year. Private classes are already filling up fast! Group class dates will be announced next week.
15.01.2022 Yes! You heard that right, you can have a really positive, calm and empowering caesarean. @hypnobirthingaustralia tools are useful in all births, especially when your ideal birth changes course.
14.01.2022 Wow! This photo!
13.01.2022 Minutes after my little hypnobabe was born en caul into the water. . . As much as I love birth photography, I like to be left alone in labour and didnt want anyone else in my birth space except my husband and Midwife. So my husband was in charge of photo taking on the big day and the lovely Amber May - Birth Photographer edited his snaps! You can see the original from hubbys iPhone. I think theyve come up a treat dont you?
13.01.2022 Another great client breastfeeding snap! . . @bmhams

12.01.2022 Hypnomum Rahni and baby Luca. Toe curling pain, many tears from me and her, and hours and hours spent pumping...but we made it for 3 (of the longest and hardest) months when I easily could have given up after 3 days
11.01.2022 Part of the reason we created this podcast was to give women who feel unheard, a voice, women like Marion and many more have highlighted the profound impact car...e providers can have throughout their birth experience. 69% of Australian women surveyed as part of the latest VBAC research released this week, reported that their previous caesarean was a traumatic experience. One in three Australian women give birth via a caesarean section (Australian mothers and babies, 2018) According to PANDA one of the leading causes of postnatal depression can be a traumatic birth experience. The latest VBAC research looks at women's experiences planning a VBAC in different models of maternity care, specifically in Australia. We encourage all mothers, support people and birthing professionals to read the paper, and listen to the women behind the statistics. 11.01.2022 Why the fear? Why the scaremongering? Why do a lot of people think birth is inherently dangerous when its not? You are not a pregnant ticking time bomb. For most low risk women, birth is completely safe and a normal, physiological function of your body. Our Aussie stats show A LOT of medical issues start from interventions; Inductions, epidurals, ARM, being told what position to be in... the list goes on. . . Choose your care provider wisely. If youre healthy and low ri...sk, do you need to employ a Surgeon for your pregnancy? Have you thought if Midwifery led care?. . . Educate yourself and your birth partner. Do you know what physiological birth looks like? Tip - it is NOT like in the movies! . . What are your birth rights? Do you know your legal rights in pregnancy and birth? You have the final say on EVERYTHING that happens to you. . . Believe! Have belief in your body that you CAN do this. Your body was made to give birth. Surround yourself with positivity; join positive birth groups, read birth stories. See more

08.01.2022 How cute are little Mr A and Mr H. These gorgeous identical twins went home yesterday! Their Mum and Dad did private @hypnobirthingaustralia classes with me and given the high risk nature of birthing multiples, we covered off on all possible birth scenarios: spontaneous labour, induction, emergency caesarean and planned caesarean.

06.01.2022 My OB for my first VBAC had never seen a physiological third stage! He pulled up a chair to watch! How can this happen!!
06.01.2022 FORWARD LEANING INVERSIONS Actually quite easy and comfy to do! I started doing these from about 28 weeks to help release any tension in my pelvic floor. They had the added benefit of helping baby get into a cephalic (head down) position for birth. . I attended the Optimal Maternal Positioning Workshop here in Perth last year where we learnt about this and many more positions to help throughout your pregnancy, some of which I incorporate into my @hypnobirthingaustralia clas...ses Have you tried this at home? . From @drkaitlyndayman - M Y # 1 The forward-leaning inversion has to be my favourite technique to teach my pregnant mummas. WHY? Because it creates room in the lower uterus and encourages bub to fill that space by using the natural pull of gravity and the weight of bubbas head to snuggle into a more ideal position for birth (head down) when coming out of the inversion. This makes it especially useful for breeched/transverse bubs. It can also be used as a tool for releasing tension regardless of bubs positioning and can be used during the birth process (yay!). HOW OFTEN? Complete for three relaxing breaths (about 30 seconds) before returning to the start position and complete once daily. When Baby is in Breech or transverse after 32 weeks: it is typically recommended to repeat this 30-second position multiple times through the day (7-14 times) for a series of 1-3 days depending on your individual situation. CONTRAINDICATIONS: This technique is not for everyone due to the inverted nature so please head to spinningbabies.com and search forward-leaning inversion for a list of contraindication. SAFETY The first time that you do a forward Leaning Inversion, you may need some additional help or support to get into the position safely **** if you have any questions about the Forward Leaning Inversion or Chiropractic care for Pregnancy - I would love to help Let me know if you tried the FLI!
04.01.2022 Just listened to @misskyreeloves birth story with Sophie from the @australianbirthstories podcast. . . From @australianbirthstories In the final episode of the year, I interview Kyree Harvey about her intense third birth with baby Denver. She made the informed decision to be induced and after a slow build up she fought her way through 40minutes of incredibly painful active labour and delivered Denver amidst the panic of his heart rate plummeting. Kyree bares all in this interview and she shares some really wonderful knowledge and advice about opting for birth preferences over a birth plan, recovering from an episiotomy and severe tear and the importance of seeing a women’s health physiotherapist post-birth, no matter what kind of birth you have (I completely agree, Kyree!)
04.01.2022 Watch Tina from @the.birth.collective showing how you can use your fitball during pregnancy and labour! . You can use these moves to open up the pelvis and create more space for your baby to move down. They dont have to be this fast! Slow, fluid movements or even more exaggerated ones will work really well too! Listen to your body and do what feels right!
04.01.2022 Nothing beats her eyes looking up at me and her little hand touching me when she feeds I feel very blessed to have been able to breastfeed. . . The lovely @jademead1 and little Marli having a snack break at Natures Window in Kalbarri
03.01.2022 Breastfeeding twins! Meet Penny and Grace. Twin Sisters who I had the pleasure of meeting when Penny and her partner Brad did their @hypnobirthingaustralia classes with me last year in the lead up to the birth of their first baby (you can read Pennys birth story on my website). Grace came along to one of their classes as she was going to be at the birth and is also a Midwife! Penny had her little girl Macie at the Family Birth Centre at King Eddies and twin sister Grace recently had her first bub, Judd at home. I just love this beautiful sibling/cousin shoot by @petiteexposure
03.01.2022 Did you know that women who were suspected of having a big baby (and actually ended up having one) had triple the induction rate; more than triple the Caesarean rate, and a quadrupling of the maternal complication rate, compared to women who were not suspected of having a big baby but had one anyway. I have collated all the current evidence on big babies, late term growth scans and shoulder dystocia in one blog post - link in bio. Big babies! Have you had one? Were yo...u told you were going to have one but didnt? Did you have an intervention because of your big baby? . beautiful big squishy baby photographed by @sarabresser.birthphotography See more
03.01.2022 Check out the splash! Did you notice the double nuchal cord? Around one in three babies are born with a nuchal cord (cord around their neck). This is normal. The baby isn’t breathing through its airway in utero so it can’t be ‘choked’ as is often thought by many parents I speak to. By the time this baby took its first breath, the care providers would have simply unlooped the cord. . . @laurenanddouglas.birth
02.01.2022 Look at these great stats from the Family Birth Centre 88.7% vaginal birth rate! No wonder its popular!
