25.01.2022 Well Guys I got a bit of a buzz doing a post on my Facebook page so I thought that its time I started to use the Blake Studio page as a way to introduce my work to my artist friends ,and tell them some of our adventures .Carol and I have recently returned from a very [well I think so ] workshop in Darwin, it was a bit touch and go for a while if we would get away .A few days before we [we being a good mate of mine. Carol booked to fly to Darwin the next Friday I dont think... she had any faith in the Transit getting there ] left the transit camper van was in the Garage having a intermittent problem solved which shut the motor off at any random moment .not the sort of think you would want to happen on an outback road halfway to nowhere.Three days out for scheduled departure, nail biting stuff . But my mechanical genius came up with the answer that had eluded many ,so not without some trepedation we set off . I must say the Transit ran like a dream, and never missed a beat and apart from a tyre problem which delayed us 36 hours in Mt Isa [ no one had our tyre size] It was a good run be it a long one .We picked Carol up late Thursday night and started the workshop saturday morning in was a pastel class and I was pleased to see we had 12 students who were all enthusiastic and keen to work, it was a pleasure to be there .teaching. The following weekend I had an acrylic class ,so the time we had between workshops we spent exploring darwin and the nearby tourist spots like litchfield nat park. After the acrylic workshop which although did not have the numbers was very productive . I must thank all of those guys who made the workshop such an enjoyable experience. . I will leave our trip back to my next post. I leave with a couple of shots sunset at Mindil Beach an the fulls in Litchfield Nat park. Cheers See more

22.01.2022 4 paintings in the last couple of weeks this one I have not named yet.Can anyone help out on that? It started out as a quick 20 min exercise sketch. I then spent a good bit longer than that trying to pull it together with out compromising the original integrity of the sketch This is some times a tricky task, if you over do it you could lose it . I think I might have just won out on this one. . What do you think?

12.01.2022 I have it seems to be doing more demo lately than painting, but maybe thats not too a bad thing, at least with a demo you have to work fast and furious. i have been telling my audience to work to a set time.Set a time and stop once the clock says time is up. This is a 45min study of the Sunday demo. It was quite exciting as I did not have the dark reds so i had to improvise. I tried to keep it fresh and loose. Now to see Sunday if I can keep it up in a 2-hour demo at the masters show at Redclffe on a half sheet. Why not come along and find out LOL

12.01.2022 Drawing Figures (From the People in the Landscape e-book) An interesting and easy way of developing your skill at doing figures in different poses is to go to the sports section of the newspaper. There, you have sportsmen in all sorts of poses. Go over the picture a circle or rectangle for the head, a rectangle for the upper body, rectangles for the upper and lower arms, more rectangles for the pelvic area and the upper and lower legs, and triangles for the feet. You will soon get a feel for how to draw the human figure in a range of poses.

11.01.2022 Ok I know it has been a while since I posted something ,so here is a 30x20 inch painting I have been playing around with, its reached a stage where I feel that I can not add much more to make it any better ,after all it only stared out as an oil sketch,It then started to find its self till I reached this stage . It was an interesting journey , and one I may investigate further Please feel free to comment Is this a genre that still has appeal ?

09.01.2022 Chris Blake 2 day Pastel Workshop at The Blake Studio Sunshine Coast 22 & 23rd April Reflections and Movement in Water Water is an important, but often underrated feature in many paintings. Its lifegiving. We are almost all water. The planet is three fifths water. In a painting, water can direct the eye to a point of interest or it can be th subject matter itself. Reflected light on water can create a myriad of moods. ... You could spend a whole year exploring the artists possibilities of presenting water in all its moods and the way it reflects changes in the landscape. In this workshop in my studio, I intend to give you a solid introduction to the reflective qualities of water when it is still or is affected by breezes. The water may act as mirror when there are very still conditions. With movement, however, light is distorted and the reflections become more like abstract shapes of light and dark colours and tones. I will also encourage you to be bold and push tone and colour to its limit. On the Sunday, we will be concentrating on painting action and strong movement in the water. I will be concenrating on coastal scenes and using an interesting and unique texturing technique to create the effects of waves and spume on rocks and the beach. I will provide photographic references. However, if you wish to use your own reference, I ask that you seek his advice first before starting the painting. Its going to be a fun day and you will definitely learn something different.
