24.01.2022 #Squats for sissies make knees for #warriors. Your age has less to do with your joint problems than you believe. Stop telling yourself bullshit narratives to help empower your issues. According to a study from 1991, at least to age 74 years, any substantial loss of joint #mobility should be viewed as abnormal and not attributable to aging. It's a great sound bite to hang onto. There's much more to that understanding and it can be argued against, but keep the sentiment and wo...rk with the notion that all the things wrong with your body are from you or your lack of action to address those issues. That's the bitter truth. Prove me wrong. Anything that isn't working, is only not working properly because you haven't provided the correct stimulus to create the change you want. Working on control and ROM with these bad boys, what a difference it makes to my toe and foot strength as well as my ankle mobility. Funny how #stronger feet give you more access to your hip musculature, the same way your grip greatly improves your performance in upper body movements. Hence the acromnym GLAG - grip, lats, abs, and #glutes. The order of priority that will lead to a #strong body. I think it's missing awareness and #breath, but that's a whole other topic. I used to have knee pain. It cost me roughly 6k, a multitude of allied health providers and a wild goose chase including platelet therapy and cortisone injections. None of them addressed the issue. No one even correctly diagnosed it. It was a great experience. Pushed me to create a better system of training that I give to my clients. Make no doubt about it, our training frequently replaces your need for physio, osteo, chiro and massage therapist, and often your pt. They use outdated tools which often are less efficient which means you need to see them more Not all of the providers but many of them. I don't roll like that, I want you to know more about your issues so you can see me less. That way you put your money into better ventures. 23.01.2022 Being strong is cool, I used to only train strength. It’s not a bad idea, making your strengths stronger, it is just limited. I trained for strength and got stronger than most people - some numbers for reference 190kg bench (120kg x 20, 150kg x 9), I’ve DB pressed 70kg dumbbells for 12, 75kg DBs x 6 reps, deadlifted 310kg for a single (205kg x 21, 250kg x 8) my best unwrapped and unbelted squat was 240kg, 280kg wrapped with a belt, I competed at 82.5kg. It was great until yo...u realise that there is nothing more to gain other than more strength. My athletic ability actually decreased. I specialised to the point of detriment. So I decided to give it up. All of it. You think you are tough? Try walking away from everything you spend time to create to find better. That’s tough. That and forgiveness. Being strong isn’t tough, it’s easy, you just need to do the work. So now I teach mobility, athletic improvement and how to abandon shit ideas - like attaching your self worth to how you look or perform in the gym, or in your lifts. That’s kid shit, adults chase life stuff. Don’t talk, don’t tell anyone, just decide what you want and chase it down with a methodical approach, find ways to make it work despite the nay sayers. Fuck the crowds and what people say and think. I walked away from lifting when I was at my strongest, not when I was failing. That’s tougher than getting strong. No deadlift will ever be as hard as changing direction and finding success. Lift or don’t. Just make sure whatever you do, it feeds your soul and gives you value. 20.01.2022 She's back babaay!!! Finally. Long term client, new beginnings. Sometimes you have to cut the cord and start over. Nothing wrong with a reset. We all go through life's trials and tribulations, we get growth when we find peace and happiness in the now, and when we learn from our choices. Training the body is meant to be connected. You're meant to feel the experience of everything, that's why your nervous system has so many different ways of absorbing your reality - touch, sig...ht, smell, taste, hearing and a few more. You were made to sense. Your physiology is based on necessity. You wouldn't have eyes if you weren't meant to perceive light Kinda makes me wonder how people forgot to stop and pay attention to the way they execute things. Unconscious living is the destroyer of dreams. Unconscious lifting is the destroyer of your joints, so stop doing HIIT classes and looking like shit through each movement. Take pride in learning how to perform. Why don't you know how to lift well? Because all you did was chase quantity not quality. Leave the mindless activity for the mindless. Time to teach people to self manage their training and learn a few tricks to help them on their travels. These classes will improve your capacity to move, learn new patterns and skills, understand how your body responds to training, address weak/painful joints, make you more bendy, and get you strong like bull. ... Class 1. 6am - mobility focused. Come to get loose, address joint pain, and move better. Class 2. 6.50am - lifting and heavy work. Come to get stable, controlled, load that tissue and learn how to get stronger. Classes are designed so you can do both if you choose. Mobility first, loaded work second. World gym members pay 40 p/w or 20 per casual. 10 visit pass 180. Tuesday - Upperbody Wednesday - Spine and Core Thursday - Lowerbody Friday 6am only - Back, neck and hip mobility for sit down workers, drivers, office staff, teachers, tired parents, over-worked students, and anyone needing love for their body. Saturday 8am only, see me before coming. Today we play. We used to play as kids, and now we are forced to exercise Saturdays are the day we explore movement and test the boundaries of our abilities. 20.01.2022 Sped up clip from training this morning. Part of our warm up - Over/unders with a med ball. Just learn how to step over the bar, and learn how to get as low as possible and move under the other bar. Manage each position, be graceful, don’t touch the ground with your hands. Simple challenge, big gains. My pancake and straddle were both significantly better from doing this. Today we worked on improving hip and knee control. Learning how to navigate deep movements. Low emphasi...s on illusory concepts like correct form and more focus on feeling and controlling movement. When you figure it out, you realise that there is no right or wrong form. There’s stronger position to load from, but it’s all about managing the obstacle. It’s all about control. Either you have it or you don’t. And control means you gotta go slow. We can all speed through movements and compensate through weak points, that’s how the body overcomes limitations in movement patterns. The hard bit is doing it slow and light. Total opposite concept to the meat head idea of lift all the weight. Good idea. Beneficial. Creates change. Teaches simpler concepts - squeeze the muscle hard and fast. It works, creates growth, builds strength, improves self confidence. Slow, smooth, controlled and deliberate is a very different animal. When you watch Tai Chi you can see grace, flow and control. No lumbering movements or restricted abilities. Just flow. Guess what happens you go slow? You get better. The reality is you need all of it: fast, slow, heavy, light, lots of technique focus, lots of no technique and lots of play focus. You need it all, and you mostly need what you don’t do. Your body loves new stimulus and challenges that’s how it improves. Stop being repetitive and start exploring. 18.01.2022 Working on my tyre flips. Stop working, training and trying to be perfect and remember that play is the most valuable aspect of the learning process. I have learned more in play than I have in practice. They both serve a purpose, but you don't carve amazing humans out of constant structured work. That's how you fuck the system up. Less exclusion, more self confidence and more exploration. I read an article last week which spoke about learning through practice versus learnin...g through play. 800 practiced reps were the equivalent of 40 reps in play. I have lived and experienced this many times. Play trumps practice!! Show me your play ninjas! Don't beat yourself down by convincing yourself you need more practice! What's all that practice for anyway? you're damn right the answer is play.

18.01.2022 Movements and exercises are only some of the tools you can use to create change in your physical existence. Your body digests all the stimulus you give it, it loves variety and challenge. You feel it in your heart when it hits the spot. That's why you get addicted to training. People move their lives to live near the beach so they can get their surfing fix. It's another time where your body rewards you with a release of favourable hormones, the greater the release, the more... you get hooked. We are addicted to it. Food, surfing, bjj, sex etc we are all hormone addicting seeking our next fix. Life is dull without it. Training-wise my fix was fighting, it turned to powerlifting , and now it's physical capabilities and movement. Same game different components. They all tell part of my story. I want my canvas to be a beautiful tale of experiences and capacities. Not of triumphs. I've filled many cups in my life. From stage plays and television, to sales coaching, university student to university educator, athlete to athlete coach, retail manager, brownie entrepreneur, personal trainer, mentor and mentee, lover and the fighter, extrovert and recently more the introvert; each element adding another layer of complexity and understanding. Pain and passion. It is the dualities of my life's experiences that give me a deeper perspective. Training is exactly the same. You need change. It's the nature of things. Learn more, grow more. When was the last time you did something you suck at? I'm not scared of letting go and starting again. I do difficult shit every day. Struggle is a good teacher. Forever the student. Want to build a physical existence that is boundless? Is going to take a lot more than your half arsed efforts in spin class. 18.01.2022 Truth hurts. I’ve said it, and I’ve needed it said to me, many times. I’ll probably need it said to me again, many times. Also don’t be bigger than spell check. #irony When you dig away at the truth to things, you find the answers. Rarely are they elsewhere, just under your nose - or under the pile of reasons you are not crushing it. We all fuck up, that’s the human part. It’s when you stop listening to the reasons you can’t do something and starting finding reasons to ma...ke things work that you find resolve. You suck at things because you didn’t put in enough of the right work. Quality time is key, you can’t just work hard and expect shit to work because you were there. You gotta get deep son. Got knee/back/hip/shoulder/neck pain - it’s usually not from the consistent approach you have taken with your rehab. Look at all the results I didn’t get from the work I didn’t put in! You are the way you are because of what you do and who you are - the collective emotional interpretation of your habits, perceptions and experiences. You need to be strong enough to know when to listen to yourself and when to shut out the voice that holds you back. Find more reasons to succeed. Minimise negativity. Create better habits. 16.01.2022 As a trainer, you get to decide what sort of coach you want to be. What are you going to do? What will you specialise in? So many flavours to choose from. You need to decide what fits your style best. Like most things, I have a hard time settling for the basics, so I went after a deeper understanding. How can I get my clients to address their needs, overcome their current belief system, change their perspective and then get them results - I teach people how to take care of th...eir body and how to apply movement/exercise. What sort of physical training can be implemented to create the change we are after? This is a far more exciting idea than teaching fitness. I don’t care how fast you can carry your groceries,I care more about your awareness of how you use, live in and move your body. As wonderfully complex as the body is, it’s relatively straightforward- provide exposure to enough stimulus so that adaption takes place and repeat until results diminish, change stimulus and repeat. If you are what you do, some of you won’t be making it very comfortably to the back half of your life. The best bit is all your issues are yours to fix and address. Just apply better remedies to your issues. What remedies are better? The ones that deliver more results Doing physio/osteo/chiro etc 2 times a week for no change? Imagine if it was your mechanic Classes run Tuesday-Saturday, 6am weekdays, 8am Saturday. I work on everything you need to be an actual beast, not one that gets sorta strong and sorta breaks. Human development is easy if you do it right, most of you ain’t doing it right. Don’t believe me? Check your results, if you’re killing it then be proud, but if your training isn’t making you better, you’re not getting stronger, your joints hurt, your mobility and flexibility is getting worse, or your still being held back by your old excuses - then your training needs to change. Makes me happy to see so many squat, with so little buttwink I hear people complain about their bad knee/hip/shoulder or whatever other injury they have, my favourite is when they tell me it’s due to age. No age didn’t do it, lack of good movement did. You become what you do most, so not moving your joints will get you better at not moving Luckily for me, lots of people are stiff and clunky and can benefit from what I teach. So each morning at 6am Tuesday t...o Friday we move, come to me to get help rehabbing sore knees, hips, ankles, backs, shoulders, neck - any joint that needs a tune up. 14.01.2022 Time, our most precious commodity. Once it’s gone, you can never get it back. The past is gone, the future doesn’t exist yet, so the only thing is now. There’s 1440 minutes in a day, you get to choose how you spend each one. Most people burn their time just watching life pass them by.... Make some time to connect with people. Don’t just chat, really dial in, even if it’s only for a couple of those precious minutes. Help create good experiences for the people around you and most importantly, yourself. Once this ride ends, all the material shit you spent time collecting won’t matter. All that will be left is an account of your emotional experience - or not depending on your beliefs. I like the sentiment of creating good emotional experiences, that shit lasts, material exchange is transitory and is far less impactful. Go make a good difference in someone’s day, you never know how valuable some good human interaction can be, spread confidence and love. 14.01.2022 Throw back to a few years ago, going into the last few weeks of prep for a powerlifting comp. 250kg for some doubles. I haven't lifted this heavy for a while now, I just took the time to learn and grow in other areas. I wish I had done it sooner. My whole concept of training the body changed and evolved into a much more rounded understanding of how to create adaptions in the body.... I spend my days now working on smaller details, relearning patterns, acquiring new capacity and capability. The strong stuff can wait, I've always been stronger than most people, so why keep refining that skill set? I love the struggle, the challenge and taking the time to attempt new skills over and over again. You need what you do the least. Which means I need to lift. 12.01.2022 Two of my clients (partners in crime), both working on improving their squat. Both ex crossfitters, tonnes of gym experience, live active lifestyles and put hard work and effort into their training and health. Each person has a totally different set of requirements and both are in need of some easy clean up work to improve the way their body performs.... Pete is typically male, strong, rigid, lifts heavy and doesn’t listen to his partner Gayle (Pete’s partner) - grinder and perfectionist, battler, working on addressing severe hip pain and a work-a-holic. Neither one of these people were struggling with rare issues, just common dysfunctions that the fitness industry or allied health don’t appear to be able to provide suitable remedy to. Both come to me for class and personal training. After our first session Gayle’s hip pain went away. She also said that she wasn’t allowed to squat again. Luckily that was in session 3. Her birthday present was teaching her to squat - and she crushed it and did it pain free. Pete is getting stronger by the day, his mobility is improving and he is loving training. 11.01.2022 There should be a disclaimer to this. I'm not going to say within reason, its staying "within reason" that got us in this mess in the first place. Everyone around you leaves a trail behind them on their life's journey. If you want to go where they are going, just follow the path. That's never been me, I've always been on the fringe. I'm not good at rules and I don't care how you are doing it, if I don't like it I'll find a way that suits me. Can be a headache at times, but i...t's my life to live so I'm doing me. It is actually really conflicting doing what I want compared to doing what I think others think I should. I've always been concerned about letting people down. Part of the programming from my upbringing, grateful for the lessons. However, once you work through that little misunderstanding you start finding truth in your actions. Do everything which is true to you. The beautiful thing about humans is we help find solutions for each other. We wouldn't be as far ahead in life if we all did life the same. Dont dance like no one is watching, dance because you want to, knowing that your opinion is the only one that matters, because it is only one that does. And don't be scared to fail. I have failed so many times, but it's all a part of the adventure. For every problem there is a potential solution. Look what happened with training - society being built out of convenience, combined with the rubbish we call "shoes" has totally fucked up the way we move, now people pay people like me to teach them how to squat! Not even with weights, just the damn movement. Do you know how ridiculous that is?? That's like teaching a cheetah to run. Fuck the lines. Colour the whole page in, do it with a spray can and melt the crayons down so you can create a cool sculpture or get high of the fumes. Just don't keep doing what you've been told, it is mostly bullshit and the people who tell you don't know. They just pass off half arsed information that got passed to them. Be accountable and find out for yourself. Frank Sinatra the shit out of life, to choose is to be human, create a new example for others to learn from.

08.01.2022 The point of play and learning is to expand your capacity to create movement and to offer new stimulus to the nervous system. And it feels good! Here is some simple kettlebell flow that links basic movements together, this isn't going to make me strong like bull, but the effort required to coordinate and execute each part of the movement with fluidity and control makes it a worthy game. Of all the things I've learned through training, the biggest teacher is variety and open... mindedness. There is no one way, but a multitude of ways. The human body does not respond as effectively to the same stimulus, over time the law of diminishing returns applies. The foolish get trapped down rabbit holes and get caught in their beliefs. Do not fall victim to this mistake, no one practice or ideal is superior. You must utilise all modalities. If you want to be a better mover you can't just practice movement. At some point you have to put the car on the race track to test it's capacity. Your limitations start and stop with your opinion. If you tell me you can't, then that's probably true. What we tell ourselves is paramount. People who tell me they can't execute something because of some self perceived limitation are exactly right. You told yourself you couldn't so therefore you couldn't. I told you you could. Therein lies the difference. I tell myself "I do what I want". Anyone's limiting beliefs of me don't even scratch the surface. I'm always a head of the pack because I find ways to improve, most people find ways to be limited. The proof will always be in the pudding. Are you getting better or clinging to dead ideas? 03.01.2022 Macaco - small gains. Post training play, fixed the right side too, was having difficulty getting enough extension. Getting the monkey body back, years of shitty treatment left me a bit stiff and immobile. Happy with progress.... Every day is humbling. Feed the nervous system enough of a challenge and watch it adapt with ease. The struggle is in applying the wrong intervention. As I learn more, I discard more and hone in on what works for me. 03.01.2022 Time to make the pivot. Times have changed. It's time to move forward and adopt a new way. I'm not going to do face to face anymore. Only online. Gotta uphold good practice in these times. Take the restrictions as ways of limiting you, or find ways to adapt to the shift. Much like everything, adapt or get left behind. I did my first official session today, off my phone in the garage. Worked perfect, currently awaiting some IT upgrades, which will make this smoother. ... Costs me less so I charged less. We spent more time together, and the client got to do it from their own space. Felt better than the social charade of the gym. I enjoyed it and the client gave me great feedback. Much success. Classes are coming soon. Each day I will run a small segment of training to focus on what I think is important. I will use the floor, dowels, walls, and basic household items to show people how to keep their body feeling happy whilst they are confined. I will show people how to self manage their bodies and learn more about how they can use physical training to increase their skills, capabilities and their understanding of their flesh vehicle. Teach them how to manage pain, improve mobility, address joint issues, get actually strong, to move well again, and to reconnect with some pretty important parts of life. Valuable tools for a long arduous journey. Who do you turn to when your body breaks? They aren't accessible for a while, what now? Why don't you know how to help yourself? Seek teachers and coaches who can teach you how to train yourself. The future is looking like no gym for at least 6 months. The only limit is, has, and will always be your ability to choose how you want to see each segment life throws at you. You were made to find ways to thrive in uncertainty, overcome that bullshit. 01.01.2022 Cool pic thanks to @_littlefrank Teaching the @worldgymmaroochydore challenge participants some kettlebell movements. I don't do fitness. I want people to control their bodies and move like artists, not attach their worth to stupid ideas like how many situps you can do or how much you squat. I impart ideas which help you to control your body. Unlocking your human potential won't come from focusing on any one area. The body is wonderfully complex and loves variety, too much... of the same shit gets you the same results. Empower yourself and stop chasing muscles and worrying about bodyfat, its great for a while, but its a dead end. Those are side affects of treating the body right, not the destination you strive for with your training efforts. It's not sustainable and the freedom from this deranged idea will enable you to do so much more with your life and time.
