25.01.2022 A very big announcement from our Executive Director about programming changes come 2021. Over the last few months, our staff and board have been working hard to re-start our artistic program and frame our 2021 program. Throughout the process, we have been faced with some hard questions. Is it viable to run performance seasons as normal in our venue? (Our theatres can only accommodate fifteen audiences each under Phase 4 restrictions.) What are the long-term consequences of th...e Australia Council decision to not renew our four-year funding, and how will we respond? To begin to overcome these challenges, we have made the difficult decision to reduce our programming of performance seasons in 2021 and to instead focus on the long-term recovery, future planning and organisational sustainability of The Blue Room Theatre. Read more about the details and what that means via the link.

06.01.2022 An interesting opinion piece from Western Australian actor, director, writer, and indie theatre maker Humphrey Bower for ArtsHub. "The performing arts industry has been effectively shut down, at least as far artists are concerned. We need to take the opportunity to decide what we want our industry to be before we reopen. And lets start making our voices heard. We need to reclaim our power. And those who have power in our industry need to share it."

05.01.2022 Broadsheet Perth article is up ~ "Producer Harriet Roberts says the program is focused on connecting artists and audiences in new ways, and builds on the innovative 31-year history of the underground theatre institution. Our focus is supporting artists to make new work, she says. This season embraces process and development, and is less focused on live output. It will give people the metaphorical warm hug of live performance, with a bit of innovation and transformation pep...pered over the top." Shout outs to Emma Pegrum for the chat.

03.01.2022 Salome is a creative development by Squid Vicious and Renegade Productions as part of Winter Nights 2020. Andrew Sutherland and Grace Chow will respond together to Salome as constant cellular movement, and Joe Lui and Olivia Hendry will work to respond to Salome as self-commodification. Hendry and Chow will then come together to meld their findings. Heres a snippet of their documentation!
