24.01.2022 Working on a laptop computer or working from home with a less than ideal workstation set up is hard on your body. Here are six very simple tips you can implement immediately to improve your posture and reduce your back and neck pain. https://thebodymechanic.com.au/back-pain-working-from-home/

24.01.2022 Two weeks till this year's Coastal Classic! The Coastal Classic is a race that attracts road runners and trail runners in equal numbers. It is a bit like the 6 Foot Track in that respect, and one of the reasons I enjoy it so much. As a trail runner, it is always good to be able to pit yourself against the roadies to find out where you stand in the strength vs speed stakes.... With two weeks to go to this year's event, this description will give you a first-hand account of what to expect come race day. https://www.tbmlockerroom.com/coastal-classic-course-descr/ Coastal Classic Trail Run NSW 2020

23.01.2022 DON'T PUT UP WITH KNEE PAIN Runners and Cyclists often suffer from knee pain. It is usually due to a combination of overuse, poor technique, faulty biomechanics and muscle imbalances. To find a "cure" you need to address, and correct, each of these factors.... Whilst working on the "cure" - you can use this taping technique to help change the loading pattern on the knee (patella tendon and Hoffa's fat pad in particular) If the tape helps to reduce the pain when you are exercising, it will help to reduce the inflammation and help you to keep training while you sort out your biomechanics and technique. For more advice on managing running and cycling related injuries follow our Facebook page. The Body Mechanic #TapingTechniqueKneePain

22.01.2022 Anyone got a sore back from sitting too much over the past few months! Most of our clients spend 30+ hours a week sitting at their desks. This can have a detrimental effect on your general health, and also on your chances of developing heart disease and other associated diseases. From an athletic perspective, it can cause the combination of lazy gluteal muscles and overactive hip flexors. You need your gluteal muscles working properly to both run and ride efficiently.... Ever considered getting a standing desk? https://thebodymechanic.com.au/run-faster-and-ride-faster-/

22.01.2022 Last weekend saw the return of trail running at the Bare Creek Trail Race. After a tumultuous year of postponed and cancelled events, runners were chomping at the bit to get out there and blow off the cobwebs. There was a strong showing by TBM patients with Oliver Cashman taking to outright win, Peter, finishing top 10, and Troy claiming a big PB. Did anyone else take part in the Bare Creek Trail run last Sunday? Be sure to share your pictures and let me know how you got on.

21.01.2022 Thinking of entering the Ultra Trail Australia 11km? This course is mostly stairs. It has an elevation gain of 560m and something like 4500 stairs! Because it is relatively short, and because you don’t have to run down Kedumba, putting in some serious stair training sessions will help a lot if you are intending to race rather than finish this event. This 5 min video clip will give you a very good idea of what to expect. The course and views are spectacular.... https://thebodymechanic.com.au/uta-training-when-where-and/

18.01.2022 Recognise any of these?

17.01.2022 I did my first event for 2020 at the weekend. It was exciting to be back on a start line again. It was a whole family event for us - we did the Maximum Adventure Glenbrook Adventure Race which included trail running, kayaking, mountain biking, and navigating. The race happens in teams of two. My wife and daughter did the novice course which took them just over three hours, and my two boys did the classic course which took them a bit over 5 hours. They all had a great time a...nd loved the course. It definitely felt like an adventure. I did the classic course with a mate, Locky. We went hard the whole time, but learned the hard way how important the navigation component was! Something to know for next time. Thank you very much to Maximum Adventure for persevering through this difficult year to organise such an awesome, safe and exciting event. I would highly recommend giving one of their adventure races a go if you want to try something a bit different.

17.01.2022 On a normal week you would think 173km would be enough to top most Strava Running Club leaderboards. But not when legend Mark Avery is running a marathon a day from Tweed Heads to Sydney raising awareness and money for Run4MentalFitness He clocked up a ridiculous 311km last week, and he has run 230-odd km already this week and will be finishing his incredible journey at Sydney Opera House tomorrow.... Congratulations Mark on such a huge achievement for such a worthy cause. https://www.nbnnews.com.au//marathon-man-passes-through-m/ #ultra #run #marathon #run4mentalfitness

14.01.2022 Ladies, if you are looking to get your hands on a new bike, here are some things to consider for your next purchase.

12.01.2022 It was a big weekend for The Body Mechanic at the NSW Cross Country Championships at Dapto. Current Body Mechanic physio Peter Sweeny took out first place in the old mans division in 36 mins flat. Former Body Mechanic physio James Nipperess took out the overall victory in a scorching 30:12.... Congratulations to them both and to everyone else who took part. Peter and James' results speak volumes for consistent training. Consistency is the key to success, and to train consistently you have to manage your niggles and injuries, have a regular body maintenance routine and train within your body's capacity to absorb the load you are throwing at it. #crosscountry #consistency #running #tbm

11.01.2022 The team at The Body Mechanic would like to offer a huge Congratulations to Mark Avery. Mark has just spent the last 20 days running (at least) a marathon each day from Twead Heads to Sydney raising money for Gotcha4Life's mental health program. He has raised over $23k so far.... Running has helped Mark's mental health a huge amount over the years, and he is passionate about helping other people discover running so that it can also help them. There are very few people in the world who could run 20 back-to-back marathons. and survive unscathed. What an incredible achievement. https://tweedheadstosydney.raisely.com/

11.01.2022 One of our Body Mechanic running clients, Mark Avery, is running 1000km from Tweed Heads to Sydney Opera House in twenty days to raise funds for mental health. Mark is a great guy who has found running to be a huge benefit to his mental health. He has been preparing for this 1000km run for 3 years, so it is not a project he has taken lightly. He is a huge advocate of using running to help deal with mental health issues, and he wants to be able to help other people through rai...sing money for Gotcha4Life. You too can help by creating a team and taking part in a virtual relay. This should provide great running motivation and raise money for a good cause at the same time. How does it work? - The challenge is to collectively run, walk, or crawl 1000km over 20 days as a team - Teams can be any size. For example, a team of 10 equates to each individual moving on average 5km’s a day over the 20 days - Challenge starts Mon 26th October and finishes Sat 14th November - To take part in the challenge they are asking for a donation of $35 - All of this donation (less a small transaction fee) goes to Gotcha4Life to run workshops in schools and clubs in the community. The Body Mechanic team have signed up to take on the challenge. Register here: https://tweedheadstosydney.raisely.com/ #keeptheconversationrunning

07.01.2022 Not wanting to miss out on the racing action last weekend, our Physio and Bike fitter Nicole took part in the Masters State Cycling Champs in Singleton. She came 5th in the TT (not her forte), took silver in the road race, and finished 4th in the Crit after working for her Sydney Uni Velo team mates who finished 1-2. She is lining up again this weekend in the Elite State Crit Champs at Heffron Park. Great work Nicole.... #cycle #crit #ride #race #bikefit #physiotherapy

04.01.2022 If you are training for the Coastal Classic, or looking to improve your technique for sand running, there are some tips to improve your ability when running on sand. If you haven't spent a lot of time running on sand I recommend starting with one sand running session per week. Start with 10 x 100m intervals at an easy (aerobic) pace on soft sand and slowly build up the volume each week until you are running 2km - 3km in one session.

04.01.2022 Mark was lucky enough to take part in the Stromlo Running Festival in Canberra on the weekend. It was his first running event for 2020, and it was exciting to be standing on a start line again. They had 10k, 30k and 50k distances available with the field at full capacity of 1800 runners. The race organisers did an amazing job of spreading the field into waves of 100 runners and holding the 10k race on the Sunday to further separate the runners and comply with all of the Covid... and social distancing restrictions. Running legend Rob De Castella who is co-founder of the Stromlo Running Festival was the MC, welcoming everyone to the event and sending each wave of starters on their way. It was inspiring listening to him talk and hearing how passionate he is about running, the local Canberra community, and using running as a means to create resilience and strength. This experience brings hope that we will see a lot more races returning next year. Race organisers are doing a wonderful job of providing a safe, fun and enjoyable race experience working within the scope allowed by the ongoing pandemic issues. It was great to see so many Body Mechanic and Locker Room members out on the course. I hope you all enjoyed your race weekend. #run #trailrunning #outdoors

04.01.2022 Have you heard of 'The 4x4x48 Challenge' by David Goggins? A runner runs 4 miles(6.4km's) every 4 hours for 48 hours. It's mentally and physically tough, to say the least. One of our running clients, Glenn Miller, completed the challenge earlier this year. ... In November, he is doing it again. This time supporting Dreams2live4, a charity that makes ''dreams' come true for patients who have metastatic cancer. (cancer that has returned) Find out more about Dreams2Live4 here : https://www.dreams2live4.org.au/4-x-4-x-48-challenge/ You can also join the guys for the entire challenge or walk a leg(s) with them - all you need to join is a Strava account, to record your runs or walks, through the 48 hours. If you can't join them, you can donate a 'dream' too - PM Glenn Miller for info.
