22.01.2022 This question SAVES LIVES. And, as UNCOMFORTABLE it may be, we all need to get used to asking it. I’m actually not sure if this post is allowed on the ‘gram or if it will circulate due to the algorithm, and my use of the word suicide. However, this is one of THE most life-saving questions you can ask someone who IS thinking of suicide and it needs to be normalised. In my role, working in mental health, I’m used to asking this question. However, it wasn’t always easy an...d I had to really get used to experiencing the discomfort of asking it. It’s important to remember though, that you don’t need to be a clinician, a GP, or a nurse to check-in with someone you are worried about. If a person you know seems to be struggling, reaching out and connecting with them could save their life. Even if you’re not quite sure - just ask. When asking, ask directly. Are you having thoughts about suicide?. Be prepared that the person may answer ‘yes’. Then listen with empathy and without judgement. (for a comprehensive guide for what to do I’ve linked to the specific Beyond Blue information through linktree in my bio) If you are thinking of suicide you are NOT alone. While I can’t guarantee an immediate response, my DM is always open if you want to chat. More importantly, there are services that can help immediately, including: Suicide call back service: 1300 659 467 Lifeline: 13 11 14 Beyond Blue: 1300 224 636 For anyone reading this who has been affected by suicide. My heart aches for you. I could never put into words just how sorry I am that you have experienced such tragedy. We need to take care of each other by asking this simple, yet very uncomfortable question that can help save a life. #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #suicide #suicideprevention #areyouokay #support #depressionhelp #depression #anxiety #mentalillness #mentalillnessrecovery #bipolarawareness #eatingdisorderawareness

20.01.2022 I’m super passionate in the belief that having access to adequate mental and emotional health care should NOT be seen as a luxury when in fact, it’s a necessity. Seeking support in the body positive space can be seen as a luxury too, however experiencing a negative body image and low self-esteem is associated with a poorer quality of life, psychological distress and the risk of disordered eating and eating disorders. I believe everyone deserves support in this area, so i...n an effort to make this more accessible, I want to offer my counselling at a reduced rate for people who are students or are experiencing significant financial hardship. If this sounds like you, please reach out so we can discuss your specific situation as I will be allotting space in my bookings to account for reduced fee appointments. #bodypositivity #bodypositive #bodypositivitymovement #embrace #counselling #counsellor #selfcare #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthsupport #selfacceptancejourney #selfacceptance

02.01.2022 I want to say thank you to the Cammeraygal people, whose land I am working on today. I also want to acknowledge that my experience as a non-Indigenous person is very different from that of an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. While I can’t ever truly understand this experience I pledge to be an ally. Having said that I have a lot of work to do to actually BE an ally, not just to say that I am. I need to educate myself MORE about my local Indigenous heritag...e, I need to SPEAK UP if I hear someone say something racist or inappropriate about an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person or their culture, I need to take the TIME to learn about and take an active interest in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues rather than resting on my laurels and offering tokenistic posts on Australia Day and during Naidoc Week. I don’t celebrate Australia Day anymore and it’s not because I’m Un-Australian it’s because I recognise the trauma that stems from this day, the trauma that our First Nations People have experienced and I don’t want to celebrate a day that brings with it so much pain and mourning for others. I can opt out of these celebrations and still love my country I’m just not going to celebrate on this day. Long story short I have a long way to go before I can call myself a TRUE ally but I’m at least going to pledge to make a start. 01.01.2022 I’ll say it again (and it’s not my humble opinion, it’s backed by rigorous empirical research) you can’t gauge how healthy someone is just by looking at them. And even if you could - when it comes to bodies, think twice before you see a happy fat person (who you think is promoting obesity) and say yeah but they’re unhealthy. Your words just might unknowingly lure them back into diet culture. Let’s remember diet culture perpetuates eating disorders and as a mental illne...ss, eating disorders have the highest rate of suicide second to substance abuse. Your comments might be well meaning, but they just might have the absolute opposite affect to what you’re aiming for. #fatphobia #eatingdisorderrecovery #eatingdisorderawareness #bodypositivity #bodypisitive #selfacceptance #acceptance #thinktwice #health #mentalhealth #fatbodies
