24.01.2022 JUST ARRIVED! Unearthing Why Stories of Thinking and Learning with Children is a collection of stories offering a distinct and hopeful outlook for the future of education. Each chapter invites you to consider the complexity and beauty of children’s capacity to learn, think and be together. Jill McLachlan’s and Clare Britt’s retelling of their experiences learning alongside children in prior-to-school and primary school based contexts will gently, but compellingly, invite you to join them in considering the deep purposes of education questioning the ‘whys’, just below the surface, that inform ‘what’ and ‘how’ you teach. #thebookgarden #bookstagram #education #educationmatters #earlylearning #teachersofinstagram #education #educators

23.01.2022 The students of Mount Mayhem School are fed up. Their uniform is hideous, the tuckshop is full of health food, while the sports cupboard is empty. It’s time for an election to find a student who will speak on everyone’s behalf and make some changes. But who will it be? There’s more to voting than you think. Vote 4 Me will show you how preferential voting works (and you’ll know more about it than the average adult in Australia). #thebookgarden #voting #welovebooks #hardcover #educationalbooks #librariansofinstagram #schoollibraries #primaryschool #shoponline #melbourne #supportsmallbusiness #supportlocalbusiness #brisbane

18.01.2022 Adventures in Risky Play is Rusty Keeler at his finest. Congenial and provocative, Rusty invites readers to new insight and action as they relate to children at play. When adults increase their tolerance for children's risk-taking, play becomes what it is meant to be - an expression of freedom, exploration, creativity and growth. Navigating risk is a crucial life skill, this book calls on parents and educators to allow, support and celebrate risk, in play.Fun is guaranteed as... Rusty takes you on a tour of wild places -- schools, community playgrounds, education centers, forests. From engagement with mud, fire and water to developed anarchy zones and adventure playgrounds in the US and around the world - Rusty celebrates play and makes a compelling argument for adults to step back and let go a little (or a lot), so children can come to understand themselves - and world around them - through the sheer joy of play. #adventuresinplay #play #educators #earlylearning #earlyplay See more

02.01.2022 Will Frankie’s new house feel like a home? Frankie is a dog that was just adopted by a family. When Frankie is brought home, he meets Nico, the family’s other dog, and then takes off exploring the house. He soon finds that Nico is not ready to share his toys. Frankie prances to the bed, Frankie’s bed? Nico replies, Nico’s. Frankie then runs to the toys, Frankie’s ball? Nico replies, Nico’s. All of a sudden, the two dogs hear the owner: FRANNNKIIEEE! Frankie runs to ...the owner with excitement to find that Frankie has his own new bed and new toys! Suddenly, Nico is interested. Nico creeps up close to Frankie’s new toys and asks, Nico’s frog? Expecting to hear Frankie reply, Frankie’s. The two come to an agreement to share their toys. The illustrations throughout the book are quirky and full of expressions. The illustrator expresses the emotions of each dog, whether it is irritation, confusion, or excitement, the reader is sure to know how the character is feeling by glancing at their face. Although there are not many words, the reader can follow the storyline through the simplicity of the illustrations. This is a great book for a read-aloud to young children. It introduces the concept of sharing to students and can also be used to help them understand speech bubbles as well as expressions in reading. #thebookgarden #welovebooks #education #librariansofinstagram #schoolsneedschoollibraries #primary #primaryschoolteacher #earlylearning #kindergarten #shoponline #shoponlinenow See more
