With so many amazing spots to explore around Gladstone, fishing with the family is always a fun filled adventure and a must do if you’re visiting the Region. ... Benaraby River and Boyne River are great spots for kids. If the ocean is a little rough, if you don’t want to put the boat in, or if you don’t have a boat the rivers around Gladstone are a perfect place for the whole family to throw in a line. There is such an abundance of fish there that you are guaranteed to land one every time. Our kids caught their first fish there and I also nearly caught my first fish there, a queeny that was so big it snapped my line! As a family of 5 we make sure to plan our day by packing plenty of snacks, swimmers and change of clothes as we all know kids LOVE to get in and out of the water, usually fully clothed! If you’re fishing the HookUp this year mangrove jack, barramundi, and bream are all common fish in both rivers and can be caught along the banks. We started our kids on bait fishing so there was less casting involved. Now they’ve got the hang of it they have started using lures. Our favourite fish to catch would probably be golden trevally because they put up a good fight which is fun for the kids. We love that the HookUp is a family event for all ages and it’s great to see so many people but especially kids out fishing in the Region. 21.01.2022 Every year the HookUp takes stallholder applications from 1 October to 30 November. However, this year we’re checking in with the successful stallholders that were secured for 2019 that couldn’t attend Bray Park, Boyne Island due to the pandemic restrictions. These stallholders will have first right of refusal for Bray Park The Home of HookUp in 2021. Then, we’re working with other community groups & Gladstone Regional Council to set up a HookUp Gladstone satellite location for 2020. So stallholders will be requested in the near future for this new opportunity.
