23.01.2022 Extreme tiredness, also known as fatigue, is one of the most common and distressing side effects of breast cancer treatment. Depending on its cause, fatigue can last from three to 12 months, or even longer after your surgery, chemotherapy or radiotherapy has finished. Many women describe their experience of fatigue as an almost total lack of energy. They say it’s like feeling extremely tired all the time. Fatigue can make it difficult to do daily tasks and activities. Tips to... help manage fatigue: -Give your body time to recover after treatment. -Eat a healthy diet. -Keep hydrated by drinking plenty of water. -Arrange for practical help at home, such as help with childcare, housework or making meals. -Incorporate basic exercise, such as walking, into your day. Exercise, especially in the morning, has been shown to greatly assist in reducing fatigue. -Take time to rest throughout the day between activities, but limiting the length of naps so that you are still able to sleep at night. -Discuss how you feel with a support group or counsellor. 23.01.2022 Hi Everyone! Being diagnosed with Breast Cancer is very overwhelming. Especially when you are forced to start absorbing and retaining a LOT of information - right from the point of diagnosis. I say forced because you are expected (to a degree) to be a part of the decision making process when it comes to your treatment options. This is an overwhelming thought it itself. In this video I go through some major and important themes in Breast Cancer when it comes to the question "H...ow Much Information Do I Need To Know?". I provide tips on how to help retain information when you attend Medical Appointments, when it's a good idea to consider a second opinion, and why Online Breast Cancer Forums can be a good and a bad thing! I hope you enjoy this video! Jen x https://youtu.be/2no80uPE7ms

23.01.2022 If you've been through or are going through Breast Cancer, one of the BEST things you can do is join a Support Group. Now a LOT of my patients tell me this is not their cup of tea, but what they don't realise is how POWERFUL it is to meet other people who have been through a very similar experience and how much valuable information can be exchanged that can help you. People will often tell me that they don't want to burden their family and friends with any more "Breast Cance...r stories" or they realise that some people, even if close to them, may not "get it". This is why meeting other people who have "walked that walk" is so powerful. Click on the picture below for details on the January Coffee and Cake catch up if you're interested! 22.01.2022 Breast cancer surgery will leave some scarring and it is different for each person and situation. After breast cancer surgery, wound healing is helped by the formation of new collagen for around three months, and the blood supply to the area increases, causing the scar to become raised, lumpy and red. Any emollient cream or oil is suitable to moisturise the scar area. The type you use will not have a direct effect on your scar but massaging moisturiser into the scar will keep... it from becoming dry and helps to make it supple. Remember to continue with your post operative exercises as it is really beneficial for your arm and shoulder movement but take care during stretching because skin that has already been damaged is extremely sensitive. 01.01.2022 Tracey G Prosthetics & Lingerie was proud to support the Sunshine Coast Breast Cancer Friendship Circle during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October 2020. T...he Sunshine Coast Breast Cancer Friendship Circle is a free, volunteer-organised social group bringing together people of all genders who have a lived experience with breast cancer (past or present). The Circle held a group walk and picnic in the park which was supported by Tracey G Prosthetics & Lingerie through donation of prize vouchers and baked goods in support of Breast Cancer Network Australia’s Pink Bun campaign. The Sunshine Coast Breast Cancer Friendship Circle is administered by volunteers - themselves breast cancer survivors - who coordinate the Circle's online community and organise monthly face-to-face social meet-ups to connect people for support, friendship and understanding. The group of 140 members was instigated in 2019 by breast cancer physiotherapist Jen McKenzie who recognised a need for face-to-face connection among Sunshine Coast women and men diagnosed with and treated for breast cancer. People can join the private (closed) group on Facebook after answering three qualification questions to confirm eligibility. Details of future social events are available by members once access has been granted https://www.facebook.com/groups/SCBCFriendshipCircle/ #PinkBunsForBCNA #BreastCancer #SunshineCoast #SupportGroup #breastcancerawarenessmonth #traceygprostheticsandlingerie
