24.01.2022 The current Coronavirus outbreak raises many and various issues for employers, ranging from how to keep your staff safe and meet WHS obligations, how to manage leave entitlements (and which leave they can take), managing remote work arrangements and supervising employees’ productivity, plus many more. Then, for businesses who need to reduce overheads, managing redundancy obligations and minimising the risk of claims. I am able to support clients during these uncertain times, and am available to provide advice and support throughout the coming weeks and months.

23.01.2022 "Find the power of the human beings inside your company and help them redefine themselves as innovators to drive your business forward". 23.01.2022 I'm curious to see how workplaces will handle those employees returning to the office after WFH during this entire period. The workplace will not be the same place they left both physically, and culturally, so what are you doing to ensure the transition back into this new space is handled correctly? And what, if any, mental health initiatives are being considered to assist with this transition?

22.01.2022 We all want new employees to succeed. But what are some of the early red flags that can indicate they are not the right fit? A solid and consistent onboarding and induction program will help to be aware of any red flags earlier, rather than later. I work with small to medium businesses to implement these systems, so that they align to the business culture, as well as being sustainable and effective.

22.01.2022 In such extraordinary times, it feels a little strange to be celebrating something like International Day of Happiness, especially as we near the end of a week that has quite literally been life-changing for so many of us. HR is a tough gig at the best of times and having spoken to various HR professionals this week; many have shared similar stories of long and challenging emergency meetings trying to work out how to best support their people through these unprecedented times. Now more than ever, we are reliant on each other than ever before. So, amongst the madness, remember to take a deep breath and try and find some happiness if even for a moment. #internationalhappinessday

22.01.2022 When we considered the future of work in 2019 I’m pretty sure nobody was contemplating that we would be facing what could be the biggest health crisis of the last 100 years. 2020 is testing us with unprecedented challenges and complex messy problems. They will test our agility in decision making, our adaptive thinking and our flexibility (when all of a sudden working from home is no longer a nice to have but an essential approach for business continuity). The lesson so far - when decision making is tough use your company values as your true north. There has never been a better time to take the values from your wall and actually live them!

22.01.2022 Many employers are having difficulties with employees who wish to receive JobKeeper payments, but not in fact work when there is work to be done. This is not the intent of the scheme, and there are steps that can be (carefully) taken to manage this issue. The Attorney-General has recently addressed this issue. #employmentlaw #employers #hrlaw #employees #employmentl #employmentlawyer #workplacelaw

22.01.2022 Anchoring is the process of associating an internal response with some external trigger. The best example of the use of anchoring is by former world number one and Tennis Hall of Fame member, Ivan Lendl. He knew the power of anchoring.... If you ever saw him playing a game you would remember that before he played a point he would tap the back of his heels with his racket. Every time he won a major point or made a great shot, he would tap his racket on his heels again. By doing this, he was capturing the energy of that peak moment. Then, when he was on the receivers line preparing for a shot he would tap his heels with his racket again. That would elicit responses of all his previous great performances in that moment. What better way to start each point?

22.01.2022 The man doesn't know that there is a snake underneath. The woman doesn't know that there is a stone crushing the man. The woman thinks: I am going to fall! and I can't climb because the snake is going to bite me! Why can't the man use a little more strengh and pull me up!"... The man thinks: I am in so much pain! Yet I'm still pulling you as much as I can! why don't you try and climb a little harder?!" The moral is: You can't see the pressure the other person is under, and the other person can't see pain that you're in. This is life, no matter whether it's with work, family, feelings or friends we should try to understand each other. Learn to think differently, perhaps more clearly and communicate better. A little thought and patience goes a long way. #leadership #mindful #entrepreneurship

19.01.2022 A number of awards have been varied as part of the third tranche of awards, with the changes due to take effect on 29th May and 18th June 2020. Similar to the previous variations under the first and second tranche, the greatest changes will be to the layout and language used in the awards, in an attempt to make them simpler. 19.01.2022 The most effective teams and organizations regularly disagree but traditional work cultures have conditioned us to think that everyone should agree with everything and the ones with any opposing viewpoint are labeled as trouble makers or disruptors. But if everyone’s always agreeing, how do you know what people are actually thinking? We need to create safe work cultures that honor differences of opinion. Because it’s through conversation, debate, and yes, even argument, those real ideas come out and better decisions are made.

18.01.2022 Leadership is a practice and we can all be students. The commonality between all great leaders is that they all show up with an insatiable curiosity to learn more. #Leadership #BeTheLeader #TheInfiniteGame https://bit.ly/2McQ4SI

18.01.2022 Appreciation is one of life’s greatest motivators, so when we take the time to let people know that we value them, it inspires them to continue doing even more. That is precisely why gratitude is the ultimate gift that keeps on giving. The most powerful motivator for employees is a simple note of thanks. There is no doubt that when we say the words thank you, we make the other person feel important and valued, which raises their self-esteem and helps improve their self-image. In addition, saying thank you not only improves their self-esteem, but it also improves our own self-esteem as well.

16.01.2022 The Fair Work Commission has announced a 1.75% increase to minimum wages. This will apply to all award wages. 14.01.2022 Want to improve project efficiency? Understand your people. If having kids has taught me anything, it's Stephen Covey's Habit #6 "Seek first to understand, then to be understood". 14.01.2022 There is no denying that COVID-19 has had a profound impact on the world of work, as well as our mental and physical well-being but I wonder how will this change the future of work? Will we see leaders take the opportunity to give their employees more control and trust them to manage their own schedules outside of ‘normal’ work hours? Perhaps leaders may want to become more hands-on in learning about their employees’ values, interests, strengths, and motivations. Meanwhile,... organisations as a whole may embrace home working and continue to experiment with different ways of working after the crisis is over, I guess time will tell. An interesting read by Forbes about their predictions. #futureofwork #forbes #worldofwork #humanresources #hrrecruitment #careers #leadership #jobs

12.01.2022 We can’t add more hours to the day, but we can manage our energy so the hours we do have are more effective. This method works really well for me and the people I recommend it to. It allows you to get into the flow, really sink your teeth into a task but also keeps your mind and body from burning out. Work for 90 minutes straight. No breaks, no swapping between tasks, no distractions.... Then, take a 10-minute break. Fill up your water bottle, walk around the block, stretch, meditate, anything good for the mind and body. But try not to hop on your phone or social media, otherwise you’re not be able to focus again properly.

12.01.2022 One of the most common questions I am asked is "Where do you work?". I may be based in beautiful QLD, and drive down weekly to Northern NSW, but I have clients all over Australia. 09.01.2022 Today’s group training was on Conflict Resolution. It’s amazing how many clients think conflict is terrible and avoid resolving it at all costs. Are you one of them? ... Your confidence and ability to manage stress are determining factors in how you resolve conflict. Whenever you’re in a conflict with someone, there is one factor that can make the difference between damaging your relationship and deepening it. That factor is attitude. -William James, father of American psychology

09.01.2022 In the last 20 years we went from a world with no social media or smart phones to a world where we’re concerned about the effect of both on the development of children. Which is another way of saying that the challenges of today are sometimes just the beginning of tomorrow’s problems. In that vein, here are some of the radical changes we might see to the way we work in the next decade.

09.01.2022 Western Australia’s Parliament has cleared the way for industrial manslaughter laws which will enforce a maximum penalty of 20 years’ imprisonment for workplace deaths. The long-anticipated Work Health and Safety Bill passed the upper house on Wednesday night after a lengthy debate. It will be signed off in the lower house next month and become law next year once supporting regulations are finalised.... Employers who neglect the safety of their employees, even if they could not have known it would cause their death, could be jailed for five years. Employers will also be prohibited from using insurance coverage to cover work health and safety penalties. #curtinunicase

04.01.2022 Every day is different at the moment and I am talking to many different HR people during this period of incredible change. The conversations this week have hit home just how pivotal it is to have a solid HR presence. Human Resources is essential when there is so much change and upheaval. 02.01.2022 Skillsets and Careers

01.01.2022 A favourite saying of mine in issues and reputational management is Like a coin, there are two sides to everything. With every issue there’s an opportunity, and with every opportunity there are issues. This mantra not only guides us to better planning and decision-making in good times, but gives us optimism, hope and direction at times when we feel somewhat at a loss. There are so many ways we can ‘flip the coin’ so we can make the most of this time. It is my hope that as many businesses as possible can turn what’s been handed to them into an opportunity, so we can all come out the other end as better people, better businesses and a better society as a whole.

01.01.2022 The world of work is changing and employers that fail to notice are getting left behind.
