Do the rules not apply for everyone! Did we not get the memo that we can put an end to the bum boogie?! The heads of state need to lift the distancing rules, we want to dance, we want to play pool, we want normality again and we can have this! ... If contact sports are ok and the salamanca market can operate then having a boogie to some live music or a dj should be too! Im extremely proud of our punters for keeping their cool and following the rules during the pandemic since weve reopened. Youre all bloody great humans! Well done to the venues that are following the rules also. Peter Gutwein has done a great job but its time to relax a bit. Keep the borders closed and let Hobart city rock!! 08.01.2022 2020 has been a rollercoaster!!!! It’s been a super rough one but there have been many small and big wins along the way. Thanks to all the punters and bands who played by the Covid rules and meant we could come back in June and start doing small shows and kept that up so that now we can all have a dance and listen to the rad new tunes you wrote in lockdown. Thanks to the arts division for granting us cash to upgrade our sound system. We had to divert a heap of our savings thi...s year to pay bills just to make sure we could reopen, so that cash will be going to some of the rad upgrades we’d hoped to have sorted earlier in the year. And our big win for the year - HCC approved our planning permit!!!! We didn’t get all we asked for but it’s a huge step in the right direction. Thanks to our landlord, Monty and the Design East crew and Danilo Yali for all their hard work in supporting us and helping with the mountains of paperwork and meetings it’s taken to get this far. We won’t dwell on the bad news for the year because that will take too long to read, but some good news/bad news is that The Bris is saying a super sad farewell to our beloved Jill who is retiring next week. And because you don’t ask a lady her age we will just say that Jill has been a huge part of the team for many years and we’ll miss her dearly. She has greeted you with a smile, and some stunning dress ups, she’s traded your cash for entry into shows you’ll remember forever; she’s directed you to the toilets, taken care of your drinks and offered her sage advice to many a punter! Always chatting and helping and being a part of the show and the experience. Thank you Jill for all you’ve done and great luck and best wishes on your new adventures! So now that the planning permit has been approved it’s time for us to have a time out and get on with the renovations and try to smash them out quickly and well. There are many walls to be built, sprinklers to be installed as well as a heap of soundproofing to go in so the neighbours won’t complain. New Years Eve will be the last show for the year as we will be having some time out to restructure and rebuild. Thanks for the patience to all bands, tour managers, promoters and bookers. We were hoping to have more details, answers and timeframes before now but that’s not how it’s rolled. So when you come in for any of the shows over the next few days, say thanks, say see ya later and see ya when we’re looking at ya. It’s been a year but we’ll be seeing it out in style.
