25.01.2022 Happy new year from Pat and Eamonn and all the crew at The Brothers. We’ll have a somewhat reduced gig lineup for the first couple of weeks in January. Our Thursday regular Gerry Hale is perfecting his tan in Bali and a lot of the other musos are still on holidays. We’re still here as always to serve you creamy pints and make you welcome. Onwards and upwards into 2020!

24.01.2022 Confirmation of the amount raised in our Movember fundraiser. Thanks again to everyone who contributed. Well done.

23.01.2022 The Brothers will not be open for the foreseeable future due to the capacity restrictions which the government has announced this afternoon. We are conscious that this is a necessary part of a worldwide effort to save lives. A huge thanks to all our wonderful and loyal staff and customers who have made the last three years so much fun. When all this passes there will be more dreams and songs to sing together. Look after yourselves. Pat and Eamonn

21.01.2022 We have decided not to open on Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th to allow us to contemplate the current situation and it’s implications. We’ll post again on Friday with an update.

20.01.2022 Irish tunes on Friday evening from 9.00pm. Banjos and fiddles and the like keeping her lit! Pat is back from his annual overseas jaunt and will be hard at it on Saturday night singing songs and pulling the odd pint. As always on Sunday evenings we encourage audience members to have a go and get up for a song. Always a bit of fun and a great way to end your weekend. See you soon at The Brothers.

19.01.2022 Join the locals at The Brothers this weekend for some quality music and drinks. Friday night we’ll have some trad Irish early on followed by a singer who has taken the Melbourne Irish music scene by storm, Mr Ciaran Boyle from Galway. Publican Pat plucks the strings and sings the songs on Saturday night from 9.00pm. Bring your weekend to an enjoyable end with some songs from our regulars on Sunday night from 6.30pm. Get up and sing a song yourself if you’re keen. See you there!

18.01.2022 The Brothers Crew is tanned, fit and ready for the big weekend ahead. Thursday night as always will feature Gerry Hale and his assortment of stringed things. Friday night is Trad Irish night with choons flying in all directions. ... This weekend sees the annual Johnston Street Festa celebrating the area’s Spanish heritage. Street closed on Saturday and Sunday. Thousands of flocking people enjoying all the food stalls and the free music around the place. We’ll be open as usual and will fit in as many as we’re let. Just a heads up that parking is very hard to find on this weekend and the tram is probably your best move. Viva la Brothers brigada!

17.01.2022 A warm thank you to everyone who came to our Movember fundraiser last Thursday. We raised over $4000 for the cause. Big round of applause to the entertainers who joined Pat and Eamonn on the night. Allehandro The Lone Mariachi, Gerry Hale, Estonia Anne and Auld Triangle Conor and Gavan. Fair play to you all. The dodgy moustaches are now shaved off for another year!

15.01.2022 Sad news to pass on to all friends of the Brothers. Margie Morgan, one of our esteemed regulars, passed away on Sunday evening. Her favourite spot was at the end of the bar with a large bottle of Magners doing the Times cryptic crossword with Lawrence McDonald. She will be greatly missed. In the current circumstances a public funeral or wake are not possible but we will be raising quite a few glasses in her memory when we’re back open. Vale Margie.

12.01.2022 Irish trad tunes let rip tonight from 8.30pm. Happy hour prices all pints and basics $8 till 8.00pm. Brother Pat will keep the Craic going on Saturday night from 9.00pm until the wee small hours. Sunday songs from 6.30pm featuring Estonia Anne, Carrickfergus Bill and many others doing their party pieces. ... Creamy pints of porter and good company. See you there.

10.01.2022 Pat and Eamonn will be around all weekend with various musical special guests to keep the Craic moving. Any guitar player will point out that the lad on the right wing of this photo is a complete chancer. Drop in for a few final drinks if you’re heading away for Christmas. A warm welcome and a cold pint await you.

10.01.2022 As regular visitors to The Brothers will be aware, Pat and Eamonn have been growing impressive moustaches this month. Our Movember fundraiser takes place on Thursday Movember 28th. All proceeds from the bar on the evening will go to that worthy charity. Music and song from various guests on the night. Come along and support a great cause.

09.01.2022 Join us this weekend for a few drinks and choons. Thursday night the one man stringband GERRY HALE will serenade you from 8.00pm. Happy hour all pints and basics $8 till 8.00pm. Irish tunes on Friday night from 9.00pm. Jigs and reels flying in all directions. We’ll have bluegrass tunes and songs on Saturday from 6.30pm followed by man of the house PAT MCKERNAN. Keeping an eye on the score in the Ireland rugby match as we go. As always on Sunday we end our weekend by inviting regulars and friends to get up and sing a song or two. See you there.

09.01.2022 Join us on Thursday night for our Movember fundraiser. Music throughout the night featuring all your moustache favourites including The MOs of Tralee, Movember Rain and lots of Motown classics. All proceeds to the Movember Foundation. Should be a momentous occasion. I’ve got loads of other dodgy puns but I’ll leave them for the moment.

08.01.2022 Opening hours over the Christmas Break. Christmas Eve open 6 till 11.00pm. Christmas Day closed. St Stephens Day closed. NYE open. New Years Day closed. Otherwise our normal times will apply. Happy Christmas everyone.

08.01.2022 Hello there everyone! The happy day has arrived. We will be opening soon but with a very limited capacity. We have been inundated with requests for bookings. A lot of thirsty people out there! We will be following up on all enquires and will do our best to fit you all in over the coming weekends. Looking forward to seeing our regulars very soon!

07.01.2022 The Brothers crew is raring to go for another weekend of fun and frolics. WEDNESDAY evening Pat and Eamonn will be on hand for a few songs around the bar. As always there will be spare instruments floating around if you feel like joining in. THURSDAY night features the string king GERRY HALE who is tanned, fit and hot to trot after his recent trip to Bali. ... Our FRIDAY night Diddly Sound System will knock out the trad Irish with banjos and fiddles in full flight. Craic will be had. Publican Pat straps on the guitar on SATURDAY night to perform his usual mix of popular and unpopular songs. As always we wind up the weekend on SUNDAY by inviting audience members to give it a lash and perform their party pieces. Songs, recitations, dodgy jokes and whatever you’re having yourself. Never a dull moment folks, see you soon at The Brothers!

06.01.2022 We have a limited number of places left for this weekend. Our capacity is very limited due to the current restrictions. Send us a message to grab a spot. It’s often a misunderstanding that Eamonn and Pat are father and son rather than being brothers. Can we clarify once and for all that Eamonn is not Pat’s father. Slainte!

06.01.2022 The Craic will be ninety as usual at The Brothers this weekend. Gerry Hale joins us on Thursday for an evening of songs and tunes played on a variety of stringed instruments from his adjoining shop The Guitar Gallery. It’s trad Irish instrumental time on Friday night with the odd song courtesy of Brother Eamonn. Eamonn’s twin brother Pat will be on hand on Saturday night to serenade you into the wee small hours. Songs from the audience on Sunday from 6.30pm, if you have a party piece we’d love to hear it! See you soon at 42 Johnston St Fitzroy.

02.01.2022 Christmas tunes are flying!!!!

01.01.2022 Greetings from the team at The Brothers. We have had a lot of enquires in recent days asking if we will be reopening in June. Unfortunately only venues with full restaurant service will be allowed to trade from June 1st. The restrictions on regular bars remain in place and we have yet to be given any indication on when we can reopen and under what circumstances. ... I know you’re all missing the pints and the Craic and the songs. We’re missing it all too. We’ll be allowed to open eventually and you’ll all get a warm welcome at The Brothers. The porter will flow again!

01.01.2022 Gerry Hale the one man stringband in action tonight from 8.00pm. Here’s a recent drawing of the man himself.
