21.01.2022 Have you been asking yourself these questions? How will I differentiate myself? Will I win the next job I quote? Is reputation all it takes? ... I have been working with builders for years. And time and again the conversations we have all come back to differentiating yourself from the other builders, the three quotes, the tyre kickers. There are a number of ways to get around this, having the right skills is clearly essential but just because youre good at your job doesnt mean youll get the business. Having the right systems and processes in place is important, the right mission, vision,values and mindset and focus is essential and undoubtedly the most important is COMMUNICATION. You may have leads coming at you all the time but if youre not converting, then you havent got the communication piece right yet. If you only have a few leads and arent converting, your communication isnt quite right. Communication in the building industry is a key differentiator. Asking the right questions is essential. 14.01.2022 Sometimes communications break down between the builder and their client. (I know, happened to us and our builder), everyone feels uncomfortable but wants to get back to normal or start again. Well theres a technique to do this. Its called having a Safeword! Its something to be agreed on when you are engaged but also can be discussed in your quoting process. And there is a technique to introduce it during your relationship even when its getting tricky. ... Its a brilliant way to differentiate yourself from the other builders and its an excellent way to get a relationship back on track. Your safe word/s can be anything. For one of my clients we decided that they should use Purple Petunias. Their clients love it and its a great way to start a difficult conversation. I need to have a purple petunia conversation with you. Everyone knows itll start off awkward but perhaps not as awkward as silence and then ongoing resentment and a broken relationship! I was invited to run another Mentoring Magic Program for the Adelaide Brighton Limited Graduates and their Mentors, and we asked them what has been their favourite part of the process so far.
